No Dope: Ft. Lauderdale Man to Smoke 115,000th Joint

When you think of the world's most prolific pot smokers, certain names come to mind: Snoop, Cheech and Chong, Willie Nelson.

How about Irvin Rosenfeld?

The 56-year-old Fort Lauderdale stockbroker will put his name among the greats when he sets a world record tomorrow for weed consumption while lighting up his 115,000th joint.

The best part is that it's all legal.

    • Though his public pot smoking has raised some eyebrows, Rosenfeld said it's the ingrained negative perception that gives it a bad name, regardless of the health benefits.

"There are people who have been raised to think it's the devil's work, they'll always be against it," Rosenfeld said. "If you truly think marijuana's as bad as you think it is, explain me."

EXACTLY. the power of social stigma must be addressed.

Did you see the movie, "In Pot We Trust"? This guy was in that movie. Also, I'm guessing he could just have his doctor count the number of prescriptions he's received. In the movie, it said he receives something like 30 pre-rolled joints per canister.

    • It's good to have you back, Jack.

I believe he's the last (or one of the last) people on a Government Medicinal Marijuana project established a number of years ago. Although they never actually used the data for anything useful and scrapped the project, the proof is within Irvin Rosenfeld as his rare bone condition has been kept in check by using cannabis to control the symptoms.

Just think if this form of medication was made available to all that want to use it? Cannabis is good for arthritis, headaches, various cancers, glaucoma, diabetes, and countless other ailments and diseases.

Save the people, free the weed.

I have a painful spinal condition that cannabis would relieve. I'm sure that if I lived in a different state, I would be eligible for medical marijuana. It shouldn't matter what state I am in. Even Tylenol is more harmful to the human body than cannabis and it is much less effective at relieving the pain. It shouldn't even matter whether or not you are in pain. Anyone of adult age should be allowed the liberty to ingest something that grows from the earth. God forbid we enjoy the simple pleasures in life.... or is it govt forbid....

    • I don't want to be a nae-sayer on such a great story, but I'm confused. How do you smoke a hole joint to yourself and not get high? Is it that he has such a constant level that he has just simply "normalized" to the high levels of active compounds, or is it just some really shitty herb?

Either way, this man really is a testament to how safe and effective cannabis can be, with an irrefutably government-sponsored program that can account for everyone of those thousands of joints... amazing. I bet they hate seeing this story pop up!

What's retarded is that the AMA is calling for "long term" studies to be done (I am glad they're opening up a liittle), yet somehow they're going to complete them in 1-3 years? Really man, we have thousands of years of history with this plant, how can they deny it?

What about the Shaffer Commission? What about Irvin Rosenfeld???? Really, what about the millions of everyday Americans that choose to toke, for medicinal healing, or even just for relaxation, what about them?

    • the man is a successful business man, and he has lit up 115K joints. obviously he's still good at his job because he's kept it for so long.

there are millions upon millions of very successful people in all types of business's or sports or even in the govt. system.

but none of that is important... we have to attack the reason why the opposition truly wants to keep cannabis illegal. and thats money.

the whole penal system gets major bank off prohibition; prosecution, arrest, fines, and is some cases housing all makes millions off both the Non-Violent offender(arrested for possession of less than one ounce, or arrested for possession with the intent to sell) and even then if you legalize there wouldn't be a reason for a drug dealer to sell because their customer base left for the dispensaries and cafe's.

also lobbyists and special interest groups pump so much money into prohibition the govt. is afraid of losing that money(most of it comes from the alcohol industry). but what they need to realize is that the revenue generated from cannabis and industrial hemp would not only pay for the process of farming, fabricating and etc, but it would also help to solve some of the numerous problems we have and could also be used to fund rehabilitation programs and drug education.

billions will be saved in many directions and billions more will be generated in many directions. oh and don't forget the millions of jobs that would be created for farming, fabricating plus the selling of cannabis in dispensaries and cafe's, plus many more jobs for the various companies that would take advantage of the opportunity.

ugh. i can keep going on and on about this, but my main point is to go for the one thing the govt. is actually most concerned about..... MONEY, not the people. don't forget that.

    • It's great to see Jack's name on a post again. Hang in there guy.

And in typical fashion; another great article. I love the end of it. To paraphrase: "if it's as bad as some folks think it is, then explain me." The proof is still in the pudding; isn't it?

I just have to add one more thing. This guy has been smoking continuously for 27 years? And he's not a junkie? Still functions and can think? Isn't a vegetable? hummmm.... Let them myths come crashing down.
