Editor's Note: Over the weekend, in Puerto Rico, Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, a 19-year-old gay teen, was partically burned, depcaitated, dismembered, and found brutally murdered by the side of a road. Police investigations suggest Mercado was murdered because of his sexual orientation. Last week, fifteen-year-old Jason Mattison was raped, stabbed to death, and stuffed in a closet of a home in East Baltimore. The New York Times Magazine recently published a story which showcased gay teens with supportive families and communities, but such isn't the case for most gay teens. We asked young people their reaction to the brutal murder of Puerto Rican gay teen Jorge Mercado. Here is what they said.
