BHOPAL LIVES

The incident occurred because of Union Carbide's various cost cutting measures, leading to a lack of adequate safety mechanisms, enabling the perfect storm to occur. Union Carbide, and its law firm, however, claimed that the incident was due to employee negligence and sabotage.
Many survivors in Bhopal still suffer chronic health problems and continue to fight Union Carbide, now owned by Dow Chemical. Activists demand that the company needs to decontaminate the former site, as well as pay a fairer compensation. Survivors only received about $500 each, and families of those who perished received around $1,000, after Union Carbide reached a $470 million settlement with the Indian government in 1989.
25 years later, Bhopalis are still active in their quest for justice. This film briefly explores what happened in Bhopal 25 years ago, and what is happening today.

In spite of the lovely adds , corporations are never ever , your friend . If they want to keep the privilege of personhood , they need to have also the responsibility of it , and do right by these people .

When will the human fife and basic decency be above profit? These poor babies with birth defects... How? How? Those responsible for such a tragedy can go on with their life knowing they caused this tragedy? There is so much ignorance in the world.

Wow, $470 Million settlement and people only received $1000??? You can only imagine all the negative things I want to say, but I'm going to save them for today.
I hope these people get some help and get the government to start paying!! These type of news articles should always be in the front of current. Getting attention and the help from our community to spread the word!!

I got my best lesson in high finance in 1985 when I attended a stockholders' meeting of the Templeton Mutual Fund on the top floor of the World Trade Center tower in New York. There were about 75 people in a conference room that overlooked the Battery, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island.
John Templeton, a white-haired millionaire, spoke briefly about money being an integral part of what he called "progress in religion" and then took questions from the audience.
A man stood up in the aisle, approached the microphone, and asked Templeton, what the Templeton Fund's position was on Union Carbide, considering the tragic accident in Bhopal. Templeton replied that immediately after the accident, Union Carbide stock dropped quickly, so the Templeton Fund rushed to buy the now-devalued Union Carbide stock, in order to profit from the situation.
This brief but revelatory explanation of "progress in religion" was followed by a general rush to the dessert cart, where a dowager in expensive clothing threw my five-year-old son to the ground in order to reach the cake before he did.

Thank you for this. The people of Bhopal must see justice. I have posted about this before only to see it fall into oblivion. Sad so many don't care.
