As much as I adore the use of hemp and hay for sustainable architecture, I absolutely loath squares and rectangles being the dominant shapes in buildings. They are just unnatural and sometimes wasteful.

If you want the masses to realize how amazing hemp is for use of textiles, insulation, wood, fuel, medicine, food and lift all the "reefer madness hype"- "Take a bong hit and drink beers" isn't going to help your case. .. .

To Janforgore:
I have had enough of you harassing my posts, all because I innocently thought we weren't able to advertise our groups in the news and/or green sections a while ago and I was wrong.
This was the comment posted by me that you fuss so much about, on your "water is life group":"To Janforgore, as much as I admire you, I believe this is wrong:
If everybody would promote their group like you did with this post, all groups like Green, Earth and Science, Tech etc would be infested with group advertising, we would not be reading news anymore, point of views, stories (no matter how good or bad) but again we would read group advertising.
You can indeed send a message to all of your connections including me to promote this group as I believe it is a more appropriate action or send a message to the community at currentblog."
http://current.com/items/90684681_come-quench-your-thirst-in-the-water-is-life-g...Your response to that was very rude and got edited into something better later on.
And this above is supposed to be the reason why you hold a grudge against me?
Isn't a bit too much?
The credit certainly goes to Jackherer for posting this and apologies to him, the title of the article with the "little piggy" keywords in it didn't show up anything.
However let's look at what you have been doing to me:
I had posted about bees:
http://current.com/items/91067704_new-film-blames-drug-firm-for-plight-of-honey-...AND
six days later you posted the same http://current.com/items/91131049_action-alert-save-the-bees.htm .I posted about going beyond Organic agriculture
http://current.com/items/91195241_shockingly-beyond-organic-veganism-and-organic...AND
you posted a different news http://current.com/items/91233315_going-beyond-organic-analog-forestry.htmbut with the same concept of going beyond Organic four days later.
I posted http://current.com/items/91245349_the-human-existence-depends-on-the-top-six-inc...
which I wrote and wanted to be kind of the flag of my Organic group as it represents such a huge example of independence from the big ag, that Organic agriculture works at a small scale being more rewarding and affordable than anything else
AND
Seven days later you post about the same Organic family "The Dervaes" showing the same video:
http://current.com/items/91321450_the-power-of-growing-your-own-food.htmI post about a way to make water potable :
http://www.takepart.com/blog/2009/10/16/ce...
AND
you post the identical one fourteen days later: http://current.com/items/91351733_ceramic-pots-purify-water.htmI post http://current.com/items/91364316_a-fresh-way-to-take-the-salt-out-of-seawater.h...
AND
four hours later you post a response on that post featuring your desalination post http://current.com/items/91365854_desalination-solution-or-problem.htmI post about breaking nitrogen addiction:
http://current.com/items/91381179_the-nitrogen-fix-breaking-a-costly-addiction.h...
AND
you post the identical one eight days later:
http://current.com/items/91441979_breaking-our-costly-addiction-to-nitrogen.htmWhat bothers me is that by not flagging you in the beginning, I have made you think that you can just dupe me and it's ok.
Otherwise like I have said, it's our original comments that make the difference, I am more concerned with raising awareness for important issues than getting the recognition.
Recognition is a good thing but if doesn't happen I will not fuss about it unlike you.You keep on voting my posts down even though they represent a "take action" towards huge environmental issues and keep on flagging them for any reason you can find because that is just going to reaffirm more and more this attitude of yours:
"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value."

Aesthetically it may not be as 'modern' but I'd put a gabled roof or a hip roof with gutters to eliminate water damage to the faux stucco paneling and the seals at the roof line, second floor/first floor seal and the seal plate.
Adobe houses fit the bill, too. And they can be built with hemp!
I really would have enjoyed a slower time lapse, to watch how they do a lot of the construction.
But Thanks for the site! - 2 years ago

I humbly apologize for the rude comment about 'writing a book'. I had already editted it out of my comment, before reading your response. Some times I just find your comments offensive to posters who are trying to communicate and share their own concerns. Plus. I think bickering with other posters is unproductive.

Firstly, this is a good story, but it is already here and would be hard to miss in the featured section. Secondly, it does have an effect on other relevant stories in people seeing repeats on top over again. Thirdly, this is not about "glory" this is about information. And forthly, I would think if this poster cared for what he posted he wouldn't have trashed me when I started the Water Is Life group and invited everyone to come in to post stories including him, but he seemingly has chosen to make it about competition rather than joining together here, which I see a lot of on this site of late. And to respond to your comment, if I wanted glory I surely wouldn't be coming here everyday. You can save the "write a book" comments for media hogs like Sarah Palin, not serious people like myself. But if I ever write a book, you can be sure I will donate all the profits to finding clean water for those who need it. Hope that makes my position clear to you.

We are trying to spend ourselves out of financial ruin. Maybe we 'should' spend some of our tax dollars on projects, which would promote healthy job growth and a healthier environment?

http://current.com/items/91508458_house-of-straw-passes-fire-test.htm
A house built from straw-bales and panels of hemp has passed an industry standard fire safety test which exposed it to temperatures above 1,000C.

I truly don't see a down side. Given the history of hemp, it could be used for the future also. To bring back jobs in America it's gonna take more than mere wishful thinking. It's going to take a whole new industry. Hemp has so many uses, if given the opportunity and motivation, we could start manufacturing environmentally friendly products. We need jobs and a healthier environment.

Many new people are posting at current and did not see Jack Herer's post over a year ago. Actually there are four posts, which come up when one searches for hempcrete posts at current. http://current.com/search.htm?s=on&v=on&r=off&context=&context_i...
????? Do you just post to get up in the ratings here? Is pushing good stories down all you care about now??????
Pushing good stories down??? Geeez 'Good stories' are in the eyes of the beholder. I think this is a 'good story'! Many of the stories, which Jack Herer posted in the past are worth repeating. I'm sure Jack Herer would agree!
I personally don't care who's up in ratings, or what is original. Some information is worth repeating, until people realize hemp has history and should have a prosperous future.
Apparently some are here to inform and share, while some are here for personal glory. Current is a wonderful tool, to inform the uninformed and a great way to communicate with 'like minded' individuals. It's not just a ratings game.

I can't help but wonder if the hay bales insulating those panels won't deteriorate over time? And if this would be an effective method to use in areas where you have high humidity - like close to the ocean. If moisture go in the panels and that hay started to mold you'd have a problem.

The Last Straw
Moisture and Straw-Bale Walls by Mark Piepkorn (with help)
Moisture is every bit the very real concern in straw-bale construction that it is in standard wood-frame construction, and many of the same considerations that need to be given to other super-insulation techniques need to also be given to straw-bale construction. A properly designed and constructed straw-bale house will last as long as any "standard" house; and an improperly executed straw-bale structure will fail just as miserably as an improperly executed stick house.
