Nervous young men ‘being forced’ to take Viagra

A growing 'ladette' culture of women who prefer instant action is proving so intimidating that more and more young men are taking the blue pill to cope.
The claim comes from Ireland's leading psychosexual therapist, who says that in the past year she has met a growing number of anxious young males who complain they are expected to "perform at will".
Mary O'Conor says the rising number of women who want instant gratification within hours of meeting a man is leading to immense pressure to perform between the sheets.
"There is a certain group of women who are ladettes and they are just out to have a good time," says Ms O'Conor. "They want to have sex and they don't want any strings attached.
"They say that they give guys the wrong number or that they don't give them a number at all. It's a bit like what would have been traditionally viewed as 'the stereotypical lad'."
The Dublin-based sex therapist says women are now more vocal than ever about their demands and that this pressure is forcing some young men to turn to the erection-enhancing drug for help.
"For guys who are not very confident, they find it difficult when they are expected to perform at will on the first night, which can lead to problems.
"They can become very anxious and this in turn can lead to a situation where they are again apprehensive the next time they're with a girl. So it's a whole other aspect of erectile dysfunction that we're seeing now."
However, men as young as their late teens are now plucking up the courage to seek professional help.
"I am seeing men who are as young as 19," says Ms O'Conor. "Certainly 20 and 21-year-old guys [who are coming to see me] would be taking Viagra or Cialis.
"These guys sometimes feel that they should be able to perform at will and I'm trying to reassure them that they shouldn't.
"There should be some element of the chase and there certainly should be some element that they fancy the girl and they should certainly know her. But unfortunately the natural order of things is being side-tracked."
A recent survey carried out by the Erectile Dysfunction Information Bureau revealed that men consider impotence to be the most embarrassing medical problem to discuss with a doctor.
The study found that only 10 per cent of men who experience impotence ever seek medical help.

Any young man today that engages in unprotected sex with a woman who has not been medically cleared of STD's and HIV is out of his fucking mind. Sex lasts a while but many STD's last a lifetime sometimes a shorter lifetime than would be normally longer. Viagra may help with a hard erection but it won't save your life.

Maybe somewhere inside of these men they realize the danger of the new 'freedom' college age women are expressing with the 'hookup' revolution. This is not biologically correct and is fighting against nature. Additionally, these women who express their newfound 'freedom' haven't given up their right to return and find these boys should a child happen to be made during the process. These women offer no guarantee that this night won't wind up making the young man unable to have children, arthritic, forever marked with herpes or dead from AIDS. All of this might go through this young man's mind when presented with this type of situation. Add a little beer to the situation and I think even a 19 year old boy should have some reservations that may need Viagara to overcome. Nervousness and doubt can even overpower Viagara, I once saw a porn star's boyfriend take 3 Viagaras over a 2 1/2 hour period and he wound up getting sick in the parking lot and never was able to finish filming a 10 minute clip. She was a veteran, he just started dating her and he wasn't used to this sort of open expression by a woman. It's NORMAL for a man to have trouble with women behaving in this way.

more and more males are being born with their testicles still inside their body - there is a direct correlation with the amount of contraceptives recycled through the water supply. I can't help but wonder if these men and their failing libido has a similar cause - other than psychosomatic.

true that - though drs should not be so quick to prescribe...it reminds me of jail sentences - most people in jails would benefit from psychological help, not punishment.
also, viagra can produce a quite stimulating effect to say the least - maybe these boys are in a sence using it like a party drug...and with out it they feel like they are underperforming.

Awww. (BTW-Diabolical 44--here's from a Russian Redhead in the USA)
a--Poor lads...if it weren't for the Pharma involved I'd point out that women have been seeing therapists for decades--being blamed for not "just being ready" at male demand. Now that lubes are advertised & so easy to get--that's no longer an issue for ladettes. Whassamatter lads--can't take the heat?
b--Glad to see some of you are aware of the "feminizing" of men due to all the toxic crap around--including what you/we eat and breathe--now GET INTO THE STREETS TO CHANGE IT!
c--the Pharma thing is scary--no joke. I HAD a great friend, 32, married, 3 young daughters, diabetic from childhood, trusted his doctor. Few years ago when Viagra was just getting know, his MD gave him some. HE said "I'm not having a problem in that dept." Doc said "Try it just for kicks." Do you think that's why an otherwise healthy man who exercised, watched his weight, took good care, loved his girls and being a Dad-- just got up off the couch one day and dropped dead of a massive heart attack just before his 33rd b-day?
Drugs are DANGEROUS and you're all too programmed!Seriously--this is a turn-around from when I was entering the world of the sexually active in the days of flower-children and "free love" and oh--about two more decades before women even felt "allowed" to ask for sex, ask men to be more versatile and taste and lick--but the one thing that's not changed--CLEARLY WE'RE STILL NOT TALKING ABOUT SEX-- BABY.
Maybe we should be. Not from a scared, whiny, complain-y, place--but just a real
"here's what people do and how, others do that, here's what some like, and really--intimacy is not like what you see in music video's and movies--that's a bunch of BS."
Come ON-lads AND ladettes--it's the 21st f***-in Century! Don't we know how to talk about natural human interaction in a loving and healthy way YET??? - 2 years ago

Its truly sick how this article is treated as a joke....... This is a reality for many men, not just in this one country, but at least ONE professional has the decency to actually say this..... When a man cannot perform because of such types of abuse he is further stigmatized and ridiculed (as the comments to this post have proven)..... Reverse the genders and theres a rally cry to stop the abuse.....

ladette (also less frequent laddette) /lædet/ noun (BrE, informal)
a young woman who behaves in a confident and noisy way, who drinks alcohol and may enjoy sport or other activities that are traditionally enjoyed by men.
Analysts believe the ladette phenomenon has been driven by increasing levels of financial independence among young women. - 2 years ago

Yes, I do have to agree with you there. Some of the time women do have ulterior motives - that - and we show more insecurity than men (hormone changes = increased emotions = more crazy). Guys need to learn to go down on women more. You don't need your dick to get a woman off and it puts 'that' part of sex off a bit so that guys can have some time to get warmed up to the situation.
Since I am getting a ridiculous volume of angry comments about men being objectified blaa blaa blaa. . .
(A) Guys, if you don't want to jump in the sack with a women right away, don't. If YOU want something that will be more than just a f*ck, then you'll have to work it out.
(B) Over the years, I have heard so many guys say how the idea of a woman who wants no-strings-attached sex. Well, you got your wish so suck it up! - 2 years ago

So the pendulum has swung the other way. Now women are sex-craving, demeaning, sexist jerks, and men are allowing themselves to be objectified.
Have fun being little more than a flesh dildo, guys. That's not my scene. I'm not a piece of meat, I'm a human being, and if a woman doesn't like that, tough.
Objectification and sexism is stupid and dehumanizing.

Biologically, women are capable of going at it more than men are. In my later 30's now and I can only manage about 4x a day tops.
I have seen women get angry about it. Which just makes things worse as a guy doesn't want to do it with an angry and frustrated woman. Hate to stereotype but have you seen how anrgy Irish women can get? Nothing has a temper like an Irish woman.
Sometime you just got to give a guy a rest once in a while, no need for drugs.

It's a shame it's taken this long for Current to finally feature one of MotherForTruth's articles on the front page, and it's also disappointing that it chose an article that is relatively tame. What is happening to the culture of youth today? Why are we allowing the degradation of our sexual morals? Why dont the men of Ireland step up and say: "Hey sluts, you'll get your hanky-panky when I feel like it." Or better yet, "Oh, you want to do it? And We barely know each other? Later, whore." I say they turn it around and demand instantaneous blow jobs upon meeting a woman. I think the men are more to blame than the women here.

To think that sexual pleasure is not determinate on mental fullfilment based on gender is ignorant..... Either gender would react to abuse or undue pressure and wind up having a lower libido.... Of course all of these cases are circumstantial, but overall we must stop ignoring the abuse of men......

This is only one psycho-therapists opinion. Are these men "being-forced" or are they just unable to get aroused when the women and or men want them to? I wouldn't say these people are being forced. I would think that copulation requires some intimacy and foreplay, not instant gratification. These people who are demanding sex right then and there, should learn some patience, some self-restraint, and some respect for the other person who wants a more fulfilling experience.

This has to do with advertising campaigns. If you see something like this enough, and you have an issue with self-esteem, as many do, this makes it seem right and proper.

It is interesting to see the opinions, judgments, and scrutiny these men are being placed under. Bluntly, if the gender rolls were reversed? This would be considered sexual, emotional, and possibly physical abuse. "If she wasn't able to perform INSTANTLY and immediately on his demand? There would be problems". I simply changed the gender rolls from a few lines of this article. I believe the article would headline would read this, "Raped women beaten by men demand for sex".
Natural order is an intact family that loves, grows, protects, and stands together. Chemistry is what makes the internal alarms go off as for being horny when with someone.
Us males can be visually stimulated. But so can females. For the act of intimacy, man or woman, it takes time. Even if males can have an erection just thinking about sex. Women too get aroused thinking about it. A male or female aught NEVER be criticized for an inability to perform immediately, instantly, and on demand.
Not to mention the risks involved.... pregnancy(means the man is owned financially for life on her demand), STDs, HIV, and AIDs. Physical and emotional abuse. Psychological problems involved here.

It seems like the Craigslist phenomena is catching on everywhere. I wonder how anonymous the girls would want to stay should an accidental pregnancy occur? Oh, that's right, abortion is just like a day at the mall for some of these ladies. This is about both. The boys can't help it because fluoride in the water and BPA in plastics are the cause of the feminine tendencies in men these days. The women are violating the natural, scientific, design of the female of the species. Sorry to refer to us as animals but that's what we are. Biologically, the women are behaving as if they have too many hormones at too early an age. Oh, they get that from the food, too. This is happening because of chemicals introduced into our lives to slow the population growth.

@ MotherForTruth: Why do you hate women so much? Couldntfindausername, who seems to be a man by the way, is perfectly right here: It's not like these men are actually forced into sex (=getting raped), they're just expected to satisfy a woman whenever and wherever she wants, a pressure women had been under for several centuries. If these guys can't say "Not now, bitch, gotta find someone else to shag you", it's their fault. And no, I don't hate men, I just don't see why I am supposed to take resposibility for them if they can't do so on their own. Fighting as a woman for men's rights is not the same as excusing their incapability by pushing it all over to these incarnations of the devil, "women", or even worse, "the feminists".
Oh, and I'm really glad Incredulous made that remark about you. Again, it's not a bad thing if you tell people about domestic violence or sexual harrassment towards men, but stories like this are just the same as cursing the table you've just run against. Maybe it would really not be a bad thing if you could stop trying to blame women for EVERYTHING that's going wrong with men. "Oh look, that poor guy was raised by a single mom! No wonder he raped 6 girls in his teen years!"
