DENVER -- A Longmont woman accused of drugging and raping a male friend pleaded guilty to charges Friday afternoon.

Janice McCarl, 54, faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of menacing and third-degree assault, reported the Boulder Daily Camera.

As part of the plea she will not have to register as a sex offender. Prosecutor Catrina Weigel told the Camera the victim was disappointed with the result.

He "felt she should have to be required to register," Weigel said.

If McCarl had not accepted the plea deal, she could have been sentenced up to 16 years in jail.

    • I can't believe this sick bitch doesn't have to register as a sex offender. She drugs and then sticks her fist up a guy's rectum to get her jollies but she isn't considered a sex offender???

      I don't get that.

    • Hmm.. I sense a slight double standard.

Then again, if the victim was older, say 20, I bet many of you would mock him and call him weak. That, would be the true double standard.

    • I wonder if the judge was a female?
I bet a female judge would have used the full force of the law against the offender whereas a male would let it go a wrist slap because "men should be able to defend themselves against a woman no matter what..."

    • Ugh! It's time for this country to wake up and realize that men aren't the only ones that can commit rape or sexual assault.

I understand that there seems to be a socially perceived majority of these crimes that fall under male jurisdiction, but we, as a country, need to speak out against laws that allow for rapists, of any gender, to receive such a slap on the wrist in comparison to the amount of psychological and physical trauma they induced on another citizen. Talk about terrorism!

How do you know he's a big, strong man? where you there? did you do the reporting? did you videotaped them? I like how you decided to follow me and post such a stupid comment, when everyone here is talking about something totally different than what we are discussing on the other post.

But keep doing it, your intelligence is showing!

    • I see we have a double standard if it had been a man that druged and raped a woman he would get life in prison. So how is it Ok to give this woman less of a charge than rape. Who's dick did she suck for the lesser charge? Why did the D.A. drop the rape charge?

Okay, there is definitely a double standard that makes people not take sexual assault against males as seriously as sexual assault against females.
However, men definitely DO NOT get life in prison for rape charges. They would have to do something even more heinous, like torture or even murder, before getting that charge. The average sentence is about 10 years for a rape, but there are times where convicted rapists are given, or serve, much less than that.

      The DOJ says:

The average sentence for criminals convicted of rape in the United States (and released in 1992) is 117 months. The average time served is 65 months, which equates to 56 percent of the actual sentence served. For crimes of sexual assault, the average sentence is 72 months, and the average time served is 35 months, equating to 49 percent of time served.

    • Hang the lawyer, too. She should have to register, definitely. Who started this whole scheme of women DV and sex offenders walking. It's "The Burning Bed" defense!
      What a crock!
This whole mentality has to change.

    • Well that's just stupid. If someone rapes someone, they register. That's just how it goes. Not to mention the fact that he was drugged and had no way to defend himself. Way to go justice system!

    • This is crap. These are the people that SHOULD be on the sex offender's list, and not the 18 year old kid who gets caught sexting or spreading pics of his ex-girlfriend who's a year or two younger than him.
