Getting up to speed on the climate talks

With the Copenhagen climate summit a mere 2 weeks away, the global media and citizens around the world are turning their attention to what's happening, what's on the table, and what it might mean for our lives, communities, and planet.

Many media sources are now publishing guides and backgrounders to bring us all up to speed. Grist Magazine in the US have created a full Copenhagen section that is already filled with a number of helpful and, in typically irreverent Grist fashion, hilarious articles. The British magazine The Ecologist have also published the very helpful Copenhagen in 60 seconds, key facts and figures about who is going, what is on the table, and what some of the likely outcomes are.

Grist, as well as hundreds of other independent media writers and bloggers, will be covering the inside and outside game of the entire conference based out of our rapid response digital media hub, the Fresh Air Center. Stay tuned to our site for more on that in a future post.

One of Grist's more useful tools for background is embedded below: a layman's interactive time line of past, current, and future global talks aimed at reaching some kind of climate agreement. If you're getting confused by how COP-15 relates to Kyoto, what an "IPCCC" is, and what role Al Gore truly did play in getting us here today, this is an fun and quick way to get informed.

You can scroll back and forth in recent history to see the key moments and decisions. I found the "flipbook" or "list" tabs at the top made the story easier to follow. Enjoy. http://tcktcktck.org/stories/campaign-stories/getting-speed-climate-talks
