An elite division of Blackwater plans targeted assassinations of suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives in Pakistan. And everyone's denying it.
In an explosive new article in The Nation magazine, investigative journalist and Democracy Now! correspondent Jeremy Scahill reveals the private military firm Blackwater is part of a covert program in Pakistan that includes planning the assassination and kidnapping of Taliban and Al-Qaeda suspects. Blackwater is also said to be involved in a previously undisclosed U.S. military drone campaign that has killed scores of people inside Pakistan. The article says the program has become so secretive that top Obama administration and military officials have likely been unaware of its existence. In a Democracy Now exclusive, Scahill joins us for his first interview since the story broke.

Blackwater Guards Tied to Secret Raids by the C.I.A.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/11/us/politics/11blackwater.html?_r=1&th&...The raids against suspects occurred on an almost nightly basis during the height of the Iraqi insurgency from 2004 to 2006, with Blackwater personnel playing central roles in what company insiders called “snatch and grab” operations, the former employees and current and former intelligence officers said.
Several former Blackwater guards said that their involvement in the operations became so routine that the lines supposedly dividing the Central Intelligence Agency, the military and Blackwater became blurred. Instead of simply providing security for C.I.A. officers, they say, Blackwater personnel at times became partners in missions to capture or kill militants in Iraq and Afghanistan, a practice that raises questions about the use of guns for hire on the battlefield.
Separately, former Blackwater employees said they helped provide security on some C.I.A. flights transporting detainees in the years after the 2001 terror attacks in the United States.
The secret missions illuminate a far deeper relationship between the spy agency and the private security company than government officials had acknowledged. Blackwater’s partnership with the C.I.A. has been enormously profitable for the North Carolina-based company, and became even closer after several top agency officials joined Blackwater.
“It became a very brotherly relationship,” said one former top C.I.A. officer. “There was a feeling that Blackwater eventually became an extension of the agency.”

Why Is the State Department Speaking for JSOC?
http://rebelreports.com/post/257191691/why-is-the-state-department-speaking-for-...Interesting chain of command issues seem to be emerging in the official “denials” being offered about my story in The Nation magazine on Blackwater and the Joint Special Operations Command operations in Pakistan. A few hours before the piece was published, I received a call—unprompted—from the office of Admiral Mike Mullen, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. I had not called them. The representative that called would not officially—named and on-the-record—deny the story. Instead, I was offered a comprehensive denial from a “defense official” on “background.” The DoD spokesman Geoff Morell was asked about it on Tuesday. He said the appropriate agency to address this was the State Department, but he did characterize the story as “conspiratorial.
The way in which the US military and the Administration have chosen to “deny” this story raises several issues, but chief among them is this: Why is the US embassy in Islamabad now the appropriate source to confirm or deny clandestine military operations that are coordinated out of a task force in Afghanistan? Moreover, as Col. Lawrence Wilkerson stated clearly in The Nation story, going back years, these JSOC missions were done without the knowledge of the US ambassadors in the countries where they operate and were done outside the traditional military chain of command.

I would have never expected anything less. I'm just not sure why we bothered with all-out war in A-stan and Iraq when we could have just assassinated the people we didn't like and let them deal with setting up a government on their own.

& we had it coming for a while now & all to an amazing generalized stupor from all involved decision makers...which goes a long way to prove that this is not random but a well planed & articulated campaign... You will be a fine officer with knowledge and a plus in the acquisition field. All kidding beside most of what I said is true and you know it buddy. The time is drawing close and I can only hope we can join forces when the time is appropriate.

This highlights that we the people are not in charge of our own government and hell Obama isn't either. This would be the perfect time with this exposure to attack Blackwater we have the right and they do not represent our wishes or our government. Killing these bible thumping armed christians will do our country good. Hitting them in the rear, and by rear I mean their staging areas here in the U.S. would be a righteous move.

Are you sure you can understand plain English ?
A ratio of 1 Taliban kill for 35 civilians is... unfortunate !!!???
As long as people believe that our so-called leaders are well-intentioned, they can, and do, get away with murder. Literally.
So please join humanity & before spewing out your gun-ho cassette have the intellectual decency to get acquainted with the dossier at hand.

Blackwaters allegience is to the Highest bidder
Profit driven 'Ethics' is what collapsed the Economy. And it will collapse our national defense as well. Blackwater falls under neither the clause of a Gov't controlled National defense nor citizens Militia. They are the hired mercenaries.
Blackwater is the Antithesis of what our Founders envisioned for our Democracy.Private Army Without Restrictions
Kings have always preferred an elite army of secret police to control dissidents and other enemies of the state. Conventional police forces were limited to matters of low security. The use of Backwater as a private army works on the same principle. They do what has to be done with no legal restrictions.
Terrorism?
The USA state has farmed out murder to private enterprise. So let me get the self-righteous western position right: mass murder by the agency of our boys in uniform is good; murder committed via a video game being played by our boys in uniform is good; rendition by the CIA with the collusion of other western states is good; murder by western-paid private enterprise is good. Any retaliation by the enemies we have created by means of the above is bad, cowardly and must be terrorism. What a shame large parts of the world find western logic somewhat shaky.
BACK TO WHERE WE NEVER LEFT...
Masters Of War
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masksYou that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets flyLike Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drainYou fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mudYou've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veinsHow much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you doLet me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soulAnd I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave

You are contradicting yourself in your posts. Blackwater is used because Bill Clinton shrunk the military when we were deployed more than during the soviet era. It’s cheaper in the short term to use private contractors, than to keep a fully trained brigade and provide logistics to them. Get it? They answer to congress which can cut off its funding. Like most civilians you have a sophomoric understanding of the military.
You want to allocate military personal to do jobs that are only necessary for this war and not others. Thank God you are not in a decision making position.
You don’t understand much. Once the war is over most of the Blackwater guys will not have a job. They are sub-contractors actually. Most of the guys do PSD protecting convoys and important personal. They do not conduct offensive actions.
Blackwater does not operate in the US without impunity. So they are not some private army.
You say you hate the military in one post; but then say some garbage about how they are not what our founding fathers wanted. Be consistent. Pinkerton security has been around since 19th century, and they conduct the same service for the railroad that Blackwater does in Iraq today. Your doom and gloom might be good for the simpletons on this website, but not for intelligent people.
1 taliban to 35 civilians? Where did you get this number? I did not ask the taliban to use civilians as human shields. How would you weigh the cost of one target versus collateral damage? Civilian casualties happen because soldiers/marines/airman are unaware of their presence when they are engaged.

This is a sick corporate experiment that hopefully Obama is going to end. This is some truly evil shit.

so what? SF, Marine Recon, SEALS, and Rangers cost one million dollars to train. They get paid a fraction of what they are worth. The SF communities take care of their own. There is nothing rouge about this. JSOC has killed a huge amount of the Taliban leadership, and unfortunately civilians are killed.
I'm happy SF guys are getting paid a good wage. They're intelligent and talented men who suffer more than anyone can imagine.

Excellent rationalization for murder under empire building mode while applauding full blown fascism too... Good drone ;)
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable an ignorable war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder." - Albert Einstein

CLASS UNDER : WE DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT ANYTHING !
Blackwater's work for JSOC in Karachi is coordinated out of a Task Force based at Bagram Air Base in neighboring Afghanistan, according to the military intelligence source. While JSOC technically runs the operations in Karachi, he said, it is largely staffed by former US special operations soldiers working for a division of Blackwater, once known as Blackwater SELECT, and intelligence analysts working for a Blackwater affiliate, Total Intelligence Solutions (TIS), which is owned by Blackwater's founder, Erik Prince.
The military source said that the name Blackwater SELECT may have been changed recently. Total Intelligence, which is run out of an office on the ninth floor of a building in the Ballston area of Arlington, Virginia, is staffed by former analysts and operatives from the CIA, DIA, FBI and other agencies. It is modeled after the CIA's counterterrorism center. In Karachi, TIS runs a "media-scouring/open-source network," according to the source.
Until recently, Total Intelligence was run by two former top CIA officials, Cofer Black and Robert Richer, both of whom have left the company. In Pakistan, Blackwater is not using either its original name or its new moniker, Xe Services, according to the former Blackwater executive. "They are running most of their work through TIS because the other two [names] have such a stain on them," he said. Corallo, the Blackwater spokesperson, denied that TIS or any other division or affiliate of Blackwater has any personnel in Pakistan.
The US military intelligence source said that Blackwater's classified contracts keep getting renewed at the request of JSOC. Blackwater, he said, is already so deeply entrenched that it has become a staple of the US military operations in Pakistan. According to the former Blackwater executive, "The politics that go with the brand of BW is somewhat set aside because what you're doing is really one military guy to another." Blackwater's first known contract with the CIA for operations in Afghanistan was awarded in 2002 and was for work along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
One of the concerns raised by the military intelligence source is that some Blackwater personnel are being given rolling security clearances above their approved clearances. Using Alternative Compartmentalized Control Measures (ACCMs), he said, the Blackwater personnel are granted clearance to a Special Access Program, the bureaucratic term used to describe highly classified "black" operations.
"With an ACCM, the security manager can grant access to you to be exposed to and operate within compartmentalized programs far above 'secret'--even though you have no business doing so," said the source. It allows Blackwater personnel that "do not have the requisite security clearance or do not hold a security clearance whatsoever to participate in classified operations by virtue of trust," he added.
"Think of it as an ultra-exclusive level above top secret. That's exactly what it is: a circle of love." Blackwater, therefore, has access to "all source" reports that are culled in part from JSOC units in the field. "That's how a lot of things over the years have been conducted with contractors," said the source. "We have contractors that regularly see things that top policy-makers don't unless they ask."
