nazism ignored not dead

CARMICHAEL, Calif.—Authorities are investigating vandalism at a suburban Sacramento synagogue that includes racist symbols and messages spray-painted on the sanctuary.
Members of Congregation Beth Shalom in Carmichael found the vandalism Tuesday morning. Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Curran says the vandalism includes the "SS" lightning bolts, a symbol of Nazi security forces, a swastika and the message "Kristallnacht still lives."

Kristallnacht, or Crystal Night, refers to a Nazi attack on Jews and Jewish businesses across Germany. Tuesday was the 71st anniversary.

Curran says a vandal was caught on surveillance cameras, but officers described him only as a man wearing dark clothing.

The FBI, Sacramento Fire Department's arson team and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined the investigation.
