Politics or sedition? Rush Limbaugh calls for military coup

Image
locutus
When does a political joke become sedition? Rush Limbaugh is calling for a military coup, and the joke, if it is a joke, is not funny. Rush, speaking about President Obama's upcoming speech at West Point, expressed hope that military officials at the Academy would "detain" President Obama.

Regardless of one's politics, to suggest that military officials at the United States Military Academy detain the President of the United States is to suggest a military coup. Such a suggestion is sedition. Limbaugh is advocating military insurrection.

    • Mad people don't understand "jokes"; they act on them.
Limbaugh should be "cautioned", at the very least, to contain sedition-inciting rhetoric, particularly in the light of Tucson's sorry assault. Then arrested for inciting sedition if he doesn't desist. Goes WAY beyond "freedom of speech".
      For the record:
Bush/Cheney started an illegal war and invaded two sovereign nations without required, legal Congressional declaration and lied to justify their outrageous actions. They should be held accountable. Legally and financially.
Centrist, corporate sympathizer Obama is trying, with corporate sanction and supervision, to undo the financial disaster foisted on the US by Bush/ Cheney war cabal's profligate spending (without costing said corporations anything). That is patently immoral but hardly illegal since the SCOTUS gave corporations "personhood." His major "sin" for the Limbaugh/Palin/Teabagger crowd is being a mixed heritage black man. Racism, pure and simple. He needs to be "put in his place" so some white reactionary can flex his supremacist muscles. Spare us!

    • patriotism should be on one side questioning authority but on the other retaining some semblance of respect for the offices of our representatives. Asking to put Bush on trial while questioning authority is also honoring the system. Suggesting a coup or an assassination regardless of who is in charge is not patriotic. Ironically but not surprisingly that certain ones who bear the American Flag on their sleeves often show themselves to be against the very principles they supposedly stand for.

    • Following are the FEDERAL LAWS that should --by rights --LAND LIMBAUGH IN THE SLAMMER FOR TREASON:

      18 U.S.C. § 2385 : US Code - Section 2385: Advocating overthrow of Government

Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or
teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of
overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or
the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession
thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by
force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any
      such government; or

Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any
such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates,
sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed
matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity,
desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any
government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts
      to do so; or

Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society,
group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the
overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or
violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any
such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes
thereof Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than
twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by
the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five
      years next following his conviction.

If two or more persons conspire to commit any offense named in
this section, each shall be fined under this title or imprisoned
not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for
employment by the United States or any department or agency
thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.
As used in this section, the terms "organizes" and "organize",
with respect to any society, group, or assembly of persons, include
the recruiting of new members, the forming of new units, and the
regrouping or expansion of existing clubs, classes, and other units
of such society, group, or assembly of persons.

    • This is seditious and treasonous. This exceeds free speech. Go to FINDLAW and Cornell University Law Library online.

It is time to arrest this traitor!

    • Well if any attempt at a military coup occurs, and the people involved afterwards claim that they did so because of the influence of Limbaugh, then I hope Limbaugh gets arrested for inciting violence at the very least.

    • Rush should not be allowed, to spread his hatred and propaganda on the airwaves..........Rush and his supporters are mentally and morally depleted....He hates Obama because he, can not and will not ever become president......His supporters are illiterate and are not independent thinkers......

People "should" not want to here his bs, but there are plenty that do, and they readily fall in line behind him because of common prejudices, fear, and greed. To say he should not be allowed to spread his nonsense on the airwaves is playing the same childish game Rush loves. He should be tuned out, not banned.

    • Trying someone for war crimes is not the same as advocating a military coup to a room full of soldiers.

No one would have dared to assassinate Bush for fear of a Dick Cheney Presidency. Bush was stupid and Cheney is insane...

Let the courts decide. Put Rush Limbaugh on trial for sedition. Certainly others have been tried and convicted for less in the United States.

    • I can't believe I'm defending Rush Limbaugh here, but it doesn't look to me like he was explicitly calling for a military coup. It was just a lame joke.

Here's the slogan: One Mind for and by the People. -Better than group-think.

    • The headline of this thread is pure liberal propaganda at its worst.

Limbaugh hates the policies of Obama. He made a joke about west point "detaining" him. Pretty mild stuff in a country based on free speech.

Have you heard Olberrman? He didn't like the Bush policies. Every night of the Bush presidency and even still today he advocates that his president was a criminal and needs to be locked up. And his show runs on a news network.

Whats the difference? Nothing, so quit being the fucking hipocrites you liberals love to be but deny you are.

The difference there is...Bush was/is a war criminal. He attacked a country, destroyed their government, all without cause. And he knew at the time he had no cause.

    • a revolution might be just the thing to save america. the fed is too big, it's top heavy and little can get done. there is no way the fed can fix itself with so many controlling interests involved. a revolution could shift the power back to the states and limit the fed back to what the founding fathers wanted.

    • The only problem with this is that another nut job like Rush or idiot Bush would end up as the Chief of the USA and that would not be change. I agree that the entire pack in Washington need to be fired but no one has planned on who to replace the corrupt regime in place. Until then one bag of scum is no better than another.

    • A military coup would be fantastic for the US; not only would it bring about an obvious change in regime, bit it will also hasten it's plummet to the bottom of the industrialised barrel. Rush obviously has the countries best interest in mind... good on ya mate.

    • Weren't people on the left calling for Bush to be arrested and tried for war crimes? Limbaugh is a fat idiot, but it's very hypocritical to call his words illegal "sedition," especially since, you know, the left is supposed to be about freedom of speech and everything.

Wow, simple common sense FallenMorgan. Just look at the post, the last part-

to suggest that military officials at the United States Military Academy detain the President of the United States is to suggest a military coup. Such a suggestion is sedition. ---And for you to suggest sedition is not sedition, but salacious, and for me to suggest salaciousness is sanctimonius, and for you to read such a saditious, salacious act of sanctimoniusness is serendipitous, and for....uh, let's not jump to conclusions :).

    • Idiot yes. But many have been.
After the rise of the Palins, the Becks, and others. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 15 years there's a Conservative States of America that decides to secede.

Lincoln had the entire South against him before he had barely said a word against them. Obama is the same. Lincoln even told them that he wouldn't emancipate the slaves but no one listened. Just like whenever Obama says anything today, the CSA nuts can't hear any good in it, only what they want to hear.

    • Okay, lock him up already. Sometimes I drive to remote locations where only AM reception is possible. If we could just lock this guy up then AM radio would have to find some other propaganda to air. I don't care if the left needs a nutjob to make a fool out of the right. I would rather hear news that might be real.
