    • The only fix for all sides in war is to stop.

I think we All must learn to separate our government from our businesses.

I can only hope people see that not only extreme religious beliefs but 'corporate America' is the very 'impetus' behind the 00's UNBECOMING of American forces, legislature, infrastructure, and citizens sovereignty; because 'markets' have come before the needs of the population... once too often for my taste... .

The same way as America intended to separate church and state; only difference : no compromise.

    • The pity of it is, the average taxpaying American may be too busy dozing (and being bulldozed) to care to call up Current.com's webpage to see this. Question for current.com news community readers: Do you citizen Journalist contributing members of current.com realy think it's a sterotype or not that the average citizen is on a treadmill ? That is, the sheeple get up, commute to work, return home, and turn on the Corporate TV mind control which is guaranteed never to feature this. And thus the Corporate TV don't ask don't tell policy toward real news continues. This article is not TV entertainment, misrepresented as news, because it won't come on after the soaps, talk shows, and be sandwiched in between more s(h)itcoms at dinnertime so that, while they're eating their supper, the commercial sponsors can fill their emptied heads with sanitized info to keep their treadmill running until the couch potatoes yawn and go to bed to maintain the cycle. As John Melancamp's song lyrics go: " It's the simple man, baby, that pays for bullets that kill " The Corporate TV menagerie with their don't ask, don't tell policy couldn't realy work without a popular attitude of can't see, must stare could it ? It's only when the mothers realize that the Corporate wars for profit like Iraq reach the Vietnam stage and their sons will be drafted to be cannon fodder for Dupont et al that they'll snap out of the hypnosis treadmill. If you compare the military vids during Vietnam, and today, you should notice a startling contrast. The real violence and bloodied wounded of the Vietnam era of the 1960s and 1970s have been replaced with "sanitized" versions of what the military wants to sell you through their corporate sponsors now. Americans are being conditioned to accept the inevitablilty of the Corporate promoted war machine fostering the conquest of new target countries like Bush/Cheny masterminded for Iraq. When you realize the Billions of dollars Halliburton, Blackwater et al pocketed over the slaughter of millions of Iraqi & U.S.killed to provide them with that windfall, you can understand why War is Big Business. What is it they used to say in the 1920s ? "The business of this country IS Big Business" and "Whatever is good for Big Business is good for this country". I prefer Benito Mussolini's straight up quote: "The perfection of the Corporate State IS Fascism" Micheal Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 focused in part on parts of the USA that used to produce, but which became idled. So with the absence of jobs, young men and woemen had no choice but to enter the military. If you measure the GDP of the USA, too much of it has been represented by crime and war production. One of
Current.com's contributing citizen Jounalsts asked in so many words: Do we realy
want to characterize ourselves by fostering industries thriving with crime and warfare ? That's a question worth asking too.

    • Ok...honestly, I'm not even going to play the video because I can't look at this dude and take him seriously as a war vet. I live next to the VA hospital and see the service men and women all the time. This dude ain't one of them. He looks more like the guy behind the counter at my local medical marijuana coffee shop here in LA. I wouldn't trust that joker any further than I can throw him because he is blazin all the time.

AND WTF is up with the upside down American flag!!!???!!! American Warrior my ass. I got a 7 year old cousin in Arkansas that has killed two deer at 200 yards this year. He is more of an American Warrior than this droopy-eyed shmuck.

    • This guy is full of it.....

The guy didn't want to get redeployed so he runs to Canada, can't get political refuge status so he slams Canada after they deny this. I suggest all of you watch Bowling for Kurdistan to counter-reference this guy....

This guy wants his five minutes of fame and is milking a PTSD claim acting like he's a Vietnam vet. Use a razor man......

Although I do agree in one sense, America needs to do something about our VA Hospitals and the care our Veterans receive. If you support the war, support the veterans...

    • Glad to hear it, soldier. That was the war to escape Saddam's WMD....the war to bring 'democracy' to Iraq....the projects to rebuild the infrastructure...that were so trashy the police trainees couldn't use their barracks....the lack of drinking water for years and no power. Sanitation bad enough that cholera broke out.
Tell you what. I think I'll go back to the very first posts at Baghdad Burning where Riverbend describes how the military left alone the rich and came in to shoot up the poor sections of Baghdad which had no guns.
The deaths weren't even admitted to - not that the kids who died from sanctions weren't blamed on Saddam...who the U.S. put on top of the heap in the first place.
Read 'Leading to War' people. The lies came nonstop.
Then check out the deaths. Even the lies are too many. My best guess is about 1,400,000 at this point - from after the start of the Occupation.
The troops ? They're killing themselves in droves. That hasn't stopped the '101st Fighting Keyboarders ' from roaring how it is every American's bounden duty to spread death and destruction. 'Do Unto Others' and all that.

Then read Riverbend's whole blog, especially the part with the "before and after" photos of how, after the massive destruction of Iraq's infrastructure by the US during the Gulf War, the Iraqis rebuilt said infrastructure in just months - she was protesting how no Iraqis got the jobs of rebuilding and repairing hospitals, schools, factories, bridges, water and electricity infrastructures, etc., even though they were perfectly qualified, experienced, and much cheaper than all the foreign contractors brought in by the USA and paid huge fortunes to do extremely shoddy jobs, and sometimes not even bothering to do the jobs at all - http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_riverbendblog_archive.html

Riverbend's blog Baghdad Burning is an extraordinary blog - she hasn't given signs of life for two years now, and I am very worried about her and her family. Last news a long time ago was that they were struggling to survive as refugees in Syria, living with the constant threat of being forced to go back to Iraq, yet profoundly homesick.

    • Speaking as a veteran of the Iraq war, I can tell you that this asshole is full of shit. He's an admitted drug dealer who says he didn't give a shit about 9/11. He also claims he shot and killed innocent civilians in Iraq. He should be thrown in jail. He also refused to serve his second deployment and ran and hid in Canada like a coward. He was thankfully thrown out of the military. What a fucking loser. According to him apparently all veterans from Iraq are sitting in the street homeless?

Never once did any soldiers in Iraq get a direct order from command to kill innocent civilians in Iraq, or to shoot every innocent civilian in sight if fired upon by one individual.

He claims Al-Qaida is not in Iraq? What a fucking liar. They came in from Syria and Iran like a flood. Who the fuck did he think was shooting at him? Iraqi peasants?

He bashes the surge? The surge is what secured the nation.

What he doesn't tell you is how the civilians thanked us every day. How we brought clean water and infrastructure to most towns. How we toppled their dictator and his killing squads. How we gave them the freedom to have free democratic elections.

Yes, the war was controversial. Yes, there are assholes like this in our military who admit to being pathetic losers and drug dealers and also killing innocent Iraqis. But ask 100 Iraqi's if they prefer life with Saddam to life with an opportunity to govern themselves and 95 of them will tell you life with an opportunity to govern themselves.

In the end Iraq had free elections. Was it a controversial entrance into war? Yes. Was it backed by congress? Yes. Were other nations certain Saddam had WMD's? Yes. In our history, is there one war that wasn't controversial to get into? No.

America has interests to protect. Like it or not, we are the biggest fish in the pan. Last time we sat idly by was 1939 and Germany took over all of Europe before we had to stop them. Not England, not France, not even the Soviets, it was our resources and manpower that had to do it, nobody else could.

World politics is not a slumber party. It's a vicious game of fighting for the world's resources while trying to maintain your nations security and power. That's the reality of it. So when you watch your flat screen TV tonight and drive your nice SUV or green car on safe streets, and buy healthy food from a clean super market, just remember what it is your nation has to do, to provide that luxury.

To you I say bull shit! We weren't saving the Iraqi's from Saddam Hussein. We didn't go to war on the pretext of saving Iraqi's. It is not comparable to what happened to the Jews. We 'admittedly' killed many innocent Iraqi's. They were collateral damage. We displaced many, while their infrastructure was destroyed by bombs. It wasn't noble. It isn't noble now! Any fixing we are doing in Iraq, is due to our unjust war!

Ask any orphans in Iraq if we helped them, by destroying their families? Ask any parent, or grandparent if their lives today are worth the loss of their families?

Do you think if China came to save us. because the Teapartiers are unhappy with our president, they would be welcome? I say bull shit! I don't want to be a refugee because the teapartiers are unhappy.

I don't 'really' think you are speaking for ordinary Iraqi's! Any child under the age of 8 or 9, never knew of the wrongs of Saddam, but they do know the wrongs of America. 'Shock and Awe' ring a bell?

Ummm, we waited to get involved militarily in WW2 because so many U.S. corporations were operating in Nazi Germany: Coke, Ford, IBM, etc. When the Nazi campaign and the Japanese attack effected corporate profits, the U.S. government decided it was time to send people like you in, to die for their profits and defend their cause with your life, even when it was over. Same thing in Viet Nam, just wasn't as successful-or was it? The Military preys on people like you willing to die and kill for them, and they only fight for money. Sorry, you are like pennies to them that they throw in a fountain of blood called WAR, make a wish and a profit... No matter who dies, you or your grandchildren. Non-violent peace is harder to fight for than any other human struggle. Sorry, I oppose war to fight for YOU and ALL Americans. We are all War's victims we must stick together. Life over Money.

In my reply I apologise for being so brutaly honest, but we can't be so naive, also i do not wish to offend, only starta debate.
If looking at the bigger picture, this war has created large revenues for the united states and created thousands of jobs, when a government looks at those kind of figures, of course they are going to war. The U.S. has had it's "revolution" in that it elected obama, but it's still the same system, he's actually sending in more troops and he's making all you yanks think it's a good idea. the problem here isn't war it's capitalism.
