Ragan: Sorry for the late response. I think all of us are doing our parts by having intelligent conversations and debates about all that is going on in this world, especially the US involvement in Afghanistan. I certainly understand your view point: Your right we did replace Sadaam and then Iraq fell apart, and I understand how you would think this is a similar situation but its not. The history of events is much different. Yes the mujahedeen in the past were an investment, but our leaving gave room for the wrong people to take power and sadly these people were well armed (with US funded weaponry) in a country with no government. Perhaps if we oversaw the development of education after the Soviet war none of this would of happened. Clearly it was the US’s fault in leaving and I certainly don’t defend that administrations decision.
Now lets get away from the late 1980’s and focus on today.
None of whats happening in Afghanistan is perfect but I think our country and its leadership is doing the best it can in such a culturally complex country. My question to all those who oppose the war and to all those who are against the sending of more troops is: what would you do? I truthfully don’t think there is any right or wrong answer because either way this country faces hardships beyond our own comprehension. If we leave then the Taliban will take control again only causing future instability and no future for women or proper education. If we stay then yes, sadly, US soldiers will continue to be sacrificed. Both are a tough call. But I promise you if we don’t do something about the Taliban now, they will only gain strength in an already politically weak region. This country is ripe for the taking.
But Ragan on a bit more of a personal note what are you doing to help the people of Afghanistan? Are you fighting? Sending aid money? What would your solution be? And if you want to know why I think the Taliban needs to be wiped out, read some articles about the beheadings in the Swat region of Pakistan or read about the shooting of eight year old school girls for receiving education. If your asking where my “brain is at” it’s at the development of a country with real potential. Afghanistan is 75% mountain, it has a unique history and culture which is backed by thousands of years of Silk Road trade. I would personally love nothing more then to experience the richness of this central Asian country, but when you have maniacs executing people and hanging them in the town squares what would you expect my response to be? Leaving is going to reinstitute the wrong people all over again. Having war lords making people fear going to school isn’t going to further Afghanistan its only going to hinder it. This is why I think these people need to be taken out so another mistake isn’t made and these people don’t suffer further. I wish none of this were the case but I think more troops would finally help rid this country of hardships. Am I happy about the sacrificing of US lives? No way. But I am certainly unhappy about people being abandoned again by a foreign power and left with no hope. At least US soldiers have medical care, food, and a decent place to sleep. Whats going to happen to the soldiers when they get home? They will have education, money, and a future. Whats going to happen to the Afghanis if we leave? Worse things than are happening now.

.Idealist; are you volunteering to go over there to do your part directly killing the Taliband to end this fraudulent war.?? Runfar are you also doing your part to defeat the Taliban, other than lip service?? I suggest that Hilary Clinton and Obama take George Bush and the entire pack of fraudulent wierdo's (Congressmen, Senators and the Supreme Court Justices) and set up office right in Bagdad and Kabul and stay there as long as the US Troops are there. And stop using the murdering Black Water killers for security. The troops are not being protected, why should you be protected? I am one who believes that I would never ask someone to do something I myself would or cannot do whether for cowardness or fear for my life. So Mr President I ask you would you have the guts to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan and I pose the same question to the wealthy Congressmen, Senators and supreme court Judges. Will you fight along side of the Kids you are sending over seas to die for this industrial military complex in the Pentagon? Perhaps the Supreme court juistices can experience the fear and frustration of war and just maybe you can gain some insight into what is justice and injustice. Runfar334 you say the Taliban needs to be wiped out. Why? After all of the money and effort we put in to supply them with arms and plenty of money and everything else to fight the Russians and now you want to take our investment and destroy it. Where is your brain? We set up Sadaam and then we went over there to destroy him, and Iraq is not better off. No matter where me have used our military industrial complex it has come back to haunt us. And we always sent the young high school students and graduates to diie in these stupid political wars. Our Washington establishment is a pack of fat ass cowards and need to be taught a lesson. I suggest that everyone but the few who have refused to back the wars, to be sent express to the front line in Afghanistan to fight along side of those young kids. The leader, I mean the President should be the same as any Roman Emperor and fight right along side and even lead his men into battle. Then perhaps our leaders will not be so anxious to go to war.

we need to win this war! even if our government is in it for the spoils,we need the sacrifice to be worth it. human rights violations are all over the globe but the middle east is a dead giveaway. (no pun intended)

The Taliban needs to be wiped out. More troops is the way to do it. These guys kill young girls for going to school. If we leave then what will happen? Answer: the same thing that happened when we left after the Soviets.

SAVING THEIR LIVES IS BACK UP. EIGHT YEARS we have been there and you all want to start it again? I am beginning to think this entire world has jumped the shark. This isn't about THEM to those just looking to give OBAMA a victory, and I'm sick of it. I thought BUSH did enough to destroy this country and others. Sad to see it is continuing.
