Two years ago, Craig McDonald was held in such high esteem by students at the Raul Yzaguirre Charter School that they voted him Teacher of the Year. But his career as an educator has come to an abrupt end after it was discovered that he had been secretly taping female students using the restroom. ABC13 reports that his pupils became suspicous when they noticed McDonald gazing at a monitor underneath his desk every time one of their female classmates went to the bathroom.
From the Houston Chronicle: Craig McDonald, 59, was charged Monday with improper photography/visual recording — a state jail felony. He is free on bail. Investigators said McDonald installed a miniature video camera inside a false smoke detector mounted in a bathroom at the Raul Yzaguirre School for Success, 2950 Broadway. The camera transmitted images to a video monitor at McDonald's desk. Investigators also confiscated several computers and other electronic devices at McDonald's home. McDonald has been suspended from the school, where he has taught for about four years, officials said. Investigators said they don't know how long McDonald has been videotaping students at the school. He was released from jail Monday after posting bail set at $2,000. McDonald is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday. If convicted, he faces up to two years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine, officials said.
