Good question, disappointing answer.

Let's seee, do we allow women the Obama plan of straight income tax and Medicare for later years - or the Bush plan to defer taxes as long as they invest in the stock market?

It's cool how Obama has no immediate answer to his question, though it looks like the guy was being serious and both of them were anticipating the laughs.

Women will never be truly free the world over , until they are free to control their own bodies . It would get rid of the pimps and slavers that control women and children . It would empower the real victims . They would have a fighting chance at freedom , and could quit when they found another option . Desperate mothers trying to feed their children would not have to live with danger of death or imprisonment . These desperate acts are suffering enough without being against the law . .

EmporerThan, chill out dude! First off, the CBO recently released a report showing the stimulus having created or saved almost 2 million jobs. Secondly, Obama is doing exactly what he outlined during his campaign: end Iraq war, stop al-qaeda based in Afghanistan. Third, in such a complicated society, we must use provisions like the patriot act to ensure our country's security. It ain't great, but without the legal channels, they'd just illegally violate our rights however they see fit to get their jobs done (it's been done for years and years before the patriot act -if anything, the patriot act brought a level of transparency). And lastly, though I agree 100% to ignore the republicans, there's no getting past lobbyists and special interest groups. Obama must play the game to get anything done!

I agree with other posts - legalize marijuana ONLY - no other drugs and no prostitution and no gambling - think about the areas where those things are legal - not the cream of the human crop, if ya know what I mean - hard drugs, prostitution and gambling handicap and impede our progress - that is the LAST thing we need.

And more importantly, DO SOMETHING WITHOUT ASKING FOR PERMISSION. You desire to act so much like President Bush by reinstating the Patriot Act (even the parts you once opposed) and your sending more troops to Afghanistan in an endless war. You desire to act so much like Bush yet you never do anything without asking like he did. Hold up your god damn middle finger to the Republican Party tell them to eat your fucking dick and GET SOMETHING DONE!

Yeah laugh it up asshole. Fucking Obama is starting to sound as bad as Fox News has always portrayed him. Our economy is HEMORRHAGING and what is he doing to stop it? What is he doing to create jobs or end the job losses? "Oh we're going to hold a job summit and sit down and talk about our country's feelings." *fap fap fap* Give me a fucking break. DO SOMETHING ASSHOLE! I VOTED FOR YOU! YOU FUCKING FAILURE.

Yeah, lets do something safe like blow the hell out of a few million Muslims, kill a few thousand Americans, and permanently debilitate tens of thousands of American survivors. Yeah, that shit is way better than prostitution, prohibition type drugs, or victimless crimes isn't it?

He completely avoided the point. More disappointing than I could have conceived. Would have been more productive if he had stated some of the facts and focused on legalization and reversing victimless crime laws. If Obama ever comes to my school I'll prepare the question. Hell, if there are ever these open forums, everyone should put out the question.

Obama doesn't want to stimulate the economy. He just ordered up three to seven trillion dollars worth of war. War produces nothing. War jobs cost up to one million dollars per year to fund one troop, while you could fund five civilian jobs for every military job created. Plus war causes death, destruction, psychological and physical damage to people that we all pay for in healthcare to veterans and the loss of their productive labor, not to mention that of the families whose lives are disrupted to support them.
Obama doesn't want to stimulate any economy except the one on Wall Street and inside the beltway. That would exclude 99% of Americans. The kicker is that there are some Democrats and almost all Republicans who are even worse.

Care to explain how you came to the conclusion 3 to 7 trillion?? last time i checked the Iraq war is almost but not quite 1 trillion since 03...so not sure how you estimate 3 to 7 trillion spent in 18 months when we haven't reached 1 trillion in 6 years in Iraq...

JonRaymond:
There's a book called The Three Trillion Dollar War by Joseph Stiglitz (Nobel laureate) and Linda Bilmes (Lecturer in Public Finance at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government)(http://threetrilliondollarwar.com). I read it. Apparently you haven't. In it they chart out how the minimum we will have spent on the current wars is conservatively three trillion dollars in direct costs, with a more likely actual cost of five to seven trillion . The one trillion figure tossed around is only the upfront costs. There's this thing that the BANKS do, called INTEREST.
But here's an update. Stigliz and Bilmes have determined (in a Harpers' article) a more recent figure that exceeds 10 trillion! Watch the video, read the transcript: http://www.democracynow.org/2008/12/22/linda_bilmes_the_10_trillion_hangover
On top of bank interest there are resetting costs. That refers to all the lost military equipment. All the billions of dollars of equipment, guns, bombs and ammo, is lost and must be recuperated by procurement to rebuild our war supply.
Then there's the human cost (besides the million+ innocent civilian lives lost over there in two wars). The last figure I heard was around 35,000 troops who have returned home with debilitating illness, 80% of which is chronic. That means they will spend the rest of their lives fighting disease and will largely be unable to work. That is a drain on society in terms of their lost production and of their family members' lost production who must spend most of their time as care givers. Plus all the health care cost the government picks up for them and their families (socialized medicine).
Not to mention the 5000 dead U.S. troops who will no longer contribute to our society.
Bilmes says the following in the video at this link:
"I think that if you go back to 2001, when the President [Bush] took office, you can remember there was a surplus, a budget surplus of about $150 billion and the congressional budget office at the time was projecting that that surplus would continue over the next several years. And since then, things have unraveled in every possible dimension that you can measure and certainly across every metric that economists measure. The budget deficit has disappeared. Our national debt has gone from about $5.5 trillion to between $10 and $15 trillion, depending on how much of the bailout you count. Inflation is higher. Unemployment is higher. Four million manufacturing jobs have been lost. Five million people have lost their health insurance. And the more you look into it, the more you see the very severe economic consequences that have been the result of errors and poor judgment during the past eight years... and there is household debt, you know, such as cars and mortgages and credit card debt, and this has also skyrocketed during the past eight years. So, the result is a kind of a mountain of debt, which has been one of the main drivers of the current economic virtual meltdown that we are experiencing."

Maybe marijuana alone, but it would be a bit crazy to think of legalizing artificial drugs, especially methemphetamine...
as for prostitution... who knows?
I admit, the question of legalizing all drugs and prostitution is pretty... tough, to say the least.
Stay with marijuana, and see where that goes.

i'm for legalizing both. prostitution -- with three factors: consenting, adults, in private.
these escort and massage ads have been running for years. if i pay for a massage with sex and we both meet above, what's the problem? a lot of people make the gigantic leap to 'human trafficking' for their opposition, which is an entirely separate issue. - 2 years ago
