Far Right Clash With Police in Nottingham

JasonNParkinson
Saturday 5 December 2009: The English Defence League (EDL) arrived in Nottingham in their hundreds and immediately clashed with police as supporters tried to break free from police lines.

16 people were arrested during the protest and seven have now been charged with public order offences, one protestor was charged with assaulting a police officer.

The cost of the 700-strong policing operation of the EDL Nottingham demonstration looks set to reach £1m.

    • The EDL are freaks... You know that the pub they converge on towards the end of the video is the 'Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem'... which is the oldest pub in Britain. So old in fact, that it's where crusaders would stop off before going to the middle east for some killing missions. Given that they have St. George's crosses on shields in some of their logos... are they trying to tell us that they're about to go on a crusade against the Muslims?

    • If only we could grow to the potential this 'England' once offerred - its a beautiful country but I don't see that pride in here, rather desperate lack of respect for this land and for the people in our past who've done so much to create an egalitarian, educated and safe society.
I write in honour of my grandparents whose love for this land allowed the understanding of other countries and heritage.
Our British history is formed from so many cultures, people fought for the right to walk down the street with heads held high, its not the colour of the skin but the beat of our hearts, the concious will to honour this life right here and now that separates us.
Seems everyone's wanting a fight, but we're not prepared to name they-who-shall-not -be- named. Those who perpetuate fear in order to promote their own agenda.
As long as we forget our Unions, our extended families, our land or say one pigmentation is all right or all wrong we'll not sort the issues of bloodlusting men demanding we live in fear and tolerate no-one - including ourselves.
