Research shows Testosterone is the hormone that makes you kind and genial

It is often blamed as the catalyst for aggression and risk taking in humans. But it seems testosterone may have had a bad press. The sex hormone may even be the source of very different human acts such as kindness, friendliness and fair play, research suggests.
The preconception that testosterone causes aggression, such as this attack by hooligans on a south London train in 2007, has been refuted by research at the University of Zurich

A bargaining game where female participants were either given a single dose of the hormone or a dummy pill found those who received testosterone behaved more fairly, had fewer conflicts and were better at social interactions. But women who simply thought they received testosterone - whether or not they actually did - behaved more unfairly than those who believed they received the placebo, whether they did or not.

    • Hormone balance is a complex mixture of male/female hormones along with adrenal/thyroid activity and individual receptivity to hormone influences on the brain. However, in makes sense that evolution would not result in a hormone level that made a majority of males to be unable to function as caregivers, protectors, and social influencers to the detriment of their families and offspring.

    • Interesting, perhaps that's why men and women act differently in social interactions. I think I'd trust a guy more not to stab me in the back than a fellow woman.

    • quite interesting, i never thought testosterone was what made men angry in the first place, thats just society's fault for always trying to paint the male as the strong one who has to fight, we are all created female, then form into either sex inside the womb, we're a lot more alike than we think!

to be honest, ive never seen a study to prove testosterone causes violent behavior, its always just been assumed this is so..... Still being that I grew a beard at age 16 had a deeper voice than most even at 14 which are all signs of more testosterone I have always been a pacifist...... Violent behavior more depends on how someone is brought up and learns how to deal withtheir emotions in the first place....... Hormones and chemical imbalances can definately affect this, but there is little we actually do know about these circumstances in itself. Most psychotropic drugs are in a sense experimental in their applications.....

    • I just started HRT two days ago;maybe the Grumpy Old Man will disappear. Discussing the PMS problem's of women is the third rail leading to Poverty, Mental, Stupidy; thus PMS.

    • That makes sense. More women that I know are bitchy some or most of the time while most guys I know are pretty laid back, most of the time. Women get even bitchier around their period when their hormones fluctuate. Sometimes I wonder how women have women friends. When it comes to other women they are even more competitive and underhanded than men, in my opinion. Come on, you know it's true.

Nay, he's sort of right. Girls are more competitive as a result of biological drive; there are more females born than males- limited males for unlimited females- so women have to be more competitive. Underhandedness? I'd call it "intelligence in ways men cannot naturally perceive."

As for menstruation, I'm incredibly hyper and up beat during mine. Because the egg hasn't actually been discharged, females tend to be the horniest during the 1st or 2nd day of their period, once cramps have subsided, because they can still get pregnant. Gross? So I'd say that's a cultural thing.

Women have historically been the more choosy sex in mating. They control who's sperm gets into their bodies. At least in a biological model, or a matriarchy. I've never heard of there being less males than females born, but that would make sense in a supply/demand sense. I hold that it's a bit of both. But then I'm hardly an authority on the matter. But I've seen these kinds of tactics more with my friends that are girls who renounce or ignore feminism. whatever that means.

Who the fuck are you calling a bitch? I will totally kick your ass. Let me just get another maxi pad on and then your ass is mine!!!!! :D

I don't know if women are more competitive and underhanded than men are. I have encountered some pretty vicious back stabbing men. I think it really all depends on the individual.

I also wonder about the effects of testosterone on women and how it would differ in the effects on men. I also think the study is flawed because the women knew it was a study on the effects of testosterone and therefore there was a predisposition to act according to their own understanding of how they believed it worked in men.

      sarcasm edjoy!! lol

To have an adequate control for this procedure, it seems they told some women they were getting a placebo when they werent and the reactions were still the same..... Also when they were given a placebo and told it was testosterone, they acted more aggressively... So there was definately that aspect of presumtuous responses, but from what I gather that was part of the experiment.....and rightly so......

"But women who simply thought they received testosterone - whether or not they actually did - behaved more unfairly than those who believed they received the placebo, whether they did or not."

    • Interesting, it becomes more apparant how little we actually know about ourselves the more we actually look into how we are made......
