Neighbors beg woman to stop feeding vultures

A quiet suburban neighborhood is under siege from roosting vultures, and residents are begging one neighbor to stop feeding them in hopes they will go away.

Monday evening, more than 60 vultures were roosting in trees and on rooftops on the street, while dozens of others congregated by the back door of Marie Ripley's home.

Ripley, who has posted signs warning other residents not to harm the birds, admits to feeding the vultures ground beef and chicken breast.

"I only feed them to keep them from going through my trash and from damaging the house," she said.

Neighbors complain waste from the vultures is fouling decks, cars, outdoor furniture and rooftops.

Prince George's County Animal Control officials say there is no ordinance to prevent residents from feeding nuisance wildlife.

State wildlife regulations only prohibit feeding bears.

    • The woman must be kidding??? She's feeding vultures to keep them from eating her garbage. From eating her garbage??? So she buys them food??? Gee, I guess the chicken and meat isn't costing her a thing???? I'd think they are making a bigger mess now by increasing the number that come to her house and by their droppings. She let a workable problem get way out of hand.
