An independent congressional candidate claims Islam is not a religion. Lynne Torgerson is running for Congress in Minnesota's 5th District. Torgeson is challenging Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the first Muslim elected to Congress. Torgerson claims Islam is not a religion.

    • I guess it depends on what your definition of religion is.

      For most the definition is something like: "an institutionalized system of attitudes, beliefs, and practices relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity" === as long as I recognize the INSTITUTION --- other wise its a cult.

      Though if you look up a definition you might also note it says "A PERSONAL SET" or...

      As far as I can tell they are all occult (matters regarded as involving the action or influence of supernatural or supernormal powers or some secret knowledge of them) though most Christian institutions reserve that word for what the perceive as evil religions

    • Islam is not a religion in the truest sense of the word! It is, and always has been, a deadly and dangerous cult! Look at your history! islamics have always sought the death or conversion of the west,and on many occasions in history it became nesscessary for the west in europe to go to war to defend their way of life! Thoughout history exists many examples of this fact! Now the Islamic apologists on this site will freak out and probably censor this comment! MY QUESTION FOR THEM IS HOW CAN YOU DENY HISTORY? HOW CAN YOU COVER UP THE TRUTH? Oh right it is our fault! They are misunderstood! I'll bet you keep up that line as more die! Why would you silence the truth?

      During the crusades, the ones where the Catholic Europe was invading the Middle East, the Catholics slaughtered Hebrews and other Catholics who had been living with the largely Muslim population in the Middle East along with the Muslims. These Muslims who were the central power in the Middle East at the time, hundreds of years ago, were more tolerant of other races, creeds and religions then the European Catholics of the time and in fact did not seek the conversion from other faiths. Curiously, Islam, Catholicism/Christianity, and Judaism have much more in common then they have differences.

      Basically, Islam is no more of a cult than any other religion has been or is today. The only difference is not the religion, but the people who are sometimes behind it. For example, with the wrong people behind it, religious faiths like Christianity have killed many through the witch trials, and millions throughout the act of the crusades.
