A Facebook group aiming to get the band's 1992 hit Killing In The Name to the top of the festive chart has attracted more than 750,000 members.
But McElderry's debut The Climb, out on CD on Wednesday, is expected to catch up by the weekend.

So true @anniemole - I wouldn't be surprised if it's all a genius marketing ploy by Sony records...
I don't really care who's #1 at Xmas, not like I'll be tuning into Top of the Pops/Radio 1 to find out. The Xmas #1 lost any appeal for me after Mr. Blobby was #1, you just can't top that.

This a win win situation for Simon Cowell though as they're both produced by Sony Records. It would have been great for something from an indie label to have been pitted against The Climb
