Black nativity angers Italy's Northern League Party

The nativity's appearance coincides with the League's controversial operation "White Christmas," a two-month sweep ending on Christmas Day to ferret out foreigners without proper permits in Coccaglio, a small League-led town east of Milan.
The Christmas scene -- featuring a dark-skinned baby Jesus dressed in a red shirt and lying in a manger -- was the idea of Mario Giulio Schinaia, the chief Public Prosecutor in Verona.
"History teaches us that baby Jesus and his parents were very probably dark-skinned," Schinaia told Reuters. "This nativity belongs to a universal Christmas tradition that brings together the whole of Christianity in celebration."
The nativity has caused heated reactions in the rich northern town, where resentment toward foreigners has spread as the number of immigrants, particularly from north Africa and eastern Europe, continues to rise.
"It is a useless act of provocation, just like the suggestion not to have a nativity scene at all, in order not to offend Muslims," Northern League farm minister Luca Zaia told one paper, referring to proposals in recent years that town halls and stores should no longer sponsor Christmas scenes."

It's all how you were raised, or more precisely, how you have jelled. I know a few people who truly are, without race. Clean, clear.
Some would say a little spice is good - either in one's attitude or having a culture that immerses the personality. More than a cultural identity, an actual kind of person.
But also, no biases is good. It opens one to appreciate others as you might appreciate music or wine.
Cause there's some good music out there. - 2 years ago

Blimey! When Mary appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico, she appeared to him as a Mestizo Indian girl- which is what Juan as. Her image was imprinted upon his tilma (cloak) and still survives, 500 or so years later- scientific analysis has not been able to come up with anything regarding the image- the image is composed of nothing known to this world we live in. Off the subject- sorry. So this display should be accepted by all Christians of good faith. The ignorance of these protesters show their lack of charity and concern for those less fortunate- not very Christlike at all!

Yeah, ignorance is bliss. Suggesting that science cannot explain the 'miracle' is itself a myth.
*There is no actual evidence of a miraculous origin for the image on the cloth, but there are signs of fraud and human origins. There are standard artistic motifs, evidence of underdrawing, pigments, cracking and flaking, and more. The image was, however, very helpful in the conversion of the Aztecs of the region, which is the likely reason why it was created and promoted in the first place. The bishop in question, Bishop Zumarraga, not only never mentioned it but in fact spoke out against the continued existence of miracles in the world, writing that "The Redeemer of the world doesn't want any more miracles, because they are no longer necessary."
Although the image was supposed to have appeared in 1531, the first recorded mentions of it don't appear until 1555 at the earliest. In 1556, Francisco de Bustamante wrote "The devotion that has been growing in a chapel dedicated to Our Lade, called of Gaudalupe, in this city is greatly harmful for the natives, because it makes them believe that the image painted by Marcos the Indian is in any way miraculous." Francisco de Bustamante was the head of the Franciscans in that region of Mexico. In 1569, viceroy Martin Enriquez denounced the cult around the Virgin of Guadalupe as worship of the Aztec goddess Tonantzin in disguise. *
(...)
Increasing the status of the Virgin in Latin America and in the Western Hemisphere occurs alongside a general increase in the status of Mary in the Catholic Church as a whole. The basilica built in honor of the Virigin of Guadalupe today attracts over 10 million visitors per year, making it the most visited Catholic church in the world after the Vatican.
(...)
he first recorded mention of the legend of the Virgin of Guadalupe and Juan Diego dates from 1660, 130 years after the alleged miracle took place. The principle evidence of Juan Diego's historic existence is the volume Nican Mopohua (Herein It Is Foretold, in Nahuatl), said to be originally inscribed in 1555 by an Indian poet, but almost certainly a fake, according to Cambridge University Guadalupoligist David Brading, who attributes the forgery to Miguel Sanchez, a 17th-century priest and chief promoter of the Guadalupana cult. Brading also asserts that a long-lost codex depicting the miracle, which turned up on a priest's doorstep in 1995 and which has been submitted as corroborating evidence, is also counterfeit.
According to José Antonio Flores, a prominent restorer of sacred art twice summoned to the basilica to touch up Juan Diego's questionably miraculous tilma, or cloak (the Mexican church's most sacrosanct icon, which hangs behind the main altar), the garment was "painted by human hands," most probably by the Indian artist Marcos Cipac. Sworn to secrecy by the basilica's then-abbot Guillermo Schulemberg, Flores revealed his findings on the eve of the pope's visit. Unlike in the case of the Shroud of Turin, the church has refused to permit scientific analysis of the tilma.

Technically there shouldn't be a Christmas at all, but that's beside the fake merry moments. It's funny that Italy is having this problem, especially after V stated that they are not people haters. And the skin color? The fact that one wants him lighter and another made him darker totally misses the reason Jesus existed.

You know J_Jammer, i could not agree with you more on this one. To favor depicting Jesus in any skin color over another totally misses the point of the story. Worshipping idols was forbidden in all three books of the One Almighty God/Allah. It is the message that is important, not the messenger. Even the Quran acknowledges Jesus. Prophet Mohammed wrote The Quran himself, so he did not use the Roman's Latin translation "Jesus", it is 'Isa'. Isa is recognized as one among many prophets and messengers of God, not the son, or having any divinity. But thanks to the Roman handling of the important texts and messages, the world still feels the effects of The Holy Bible. The skin color of the messenger matters as much as the messenger himself. It the message that should be appreciated.

Well, as I understand it, - Saul - a side-show social-climber was hired to Murder as many Christian Jews as he could. He did such a good job that he almost wiped them out from all lands and shores - when it occurred to him, he was eliminating his only gig and would be discarded straight away by his betters.
So he pulled the ace of the age by cutting around and co-opting the gentiles. Can you imagine!?! He changes his coat and name -to "Paul"- and becomes the first tent minister for whitey. HallalooYA! - 2 years ago

I would just like to say that I agree with most of the peoples comments being that Jesus was probably dark skinned..not white like the anglo-saxon rulers portray ...I am a white anglo saxon...I would also bow my knee and confess with my tongue that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father, no matter what colour he is...People are too obsessed with who the best race is...We are all the same, some us can do math better, some of us can write music better then others...this is not indignant of only one race but all races...so c'mon people...get over ur skin colour....it's what's inside that counts anyway...The Lord Jesus told us to look inwards and not outwards...
