Religious Right Pray For God To Stop The Health Care Bill
The event was an excellent display of the theocratic right -- that is, for the literal institution of religious doctrines in public policy, and appeals to the Deity for active direction and intervention in politics.
Co-host Lou Engle focused the event as a protest against abortion, alleging that the bill would result in government funding and promoting it, and likening their prayers to Biblical figures who worked to stop the genocide of the Jews. "But the Bible's very clear that prayer affects government," said Engle. "Esther's three-day fast changed public policy; Daniel's fast changed public policy; and it's the same, yesterday, today and forever, and that's why we're here."
The event included members of Congress, almost all of them Republicans -- but there was one Democrat, Rep. Mike McIntyre of North Carolina, who appeared via a pre-recorded video message. "You know, the power of prayer knows no bounds," said McIntyre. "The true source of power is not found in the halls of congress or the chambers of the Supreme Court or the Oval Office of the west wing, but rather on our knees at the throne of grace." McIntyre did not specifically comment on the health care bill, but we can probably count him as an irreconcilable vote against it.
Rep. Michele Bachman (R-MN) also led a prayer, thanking the Lord for the Godly men and women who are in public life, and asking forgiveness for government leaders that haven't looked to God."

Forget world peace, fuck the teeming masses. Screw an end to poverty. Let's pray to end health coverage for those who need it.

I was thinking they aren't gonna get any money for me. But they could do an end run by making a law the pledges one dollar of general fund monies for every dollar lost due to avoiders such as myself. They could have a an estimate applied, of monies they believe I'm flaking on, apply general fund monies and make interest bearing loans on those monies.

Kinda reminds me of a George Carlin quote.
"I noticed that of all the prayers I used to offer to god, and all the prayers that I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answer at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want. Half the time I don't. Same as god 50/50. Same as the four leaf clover, the horse shoe, the rabbit's foot, and the wishing well. Same as the mojo man. Same as the voodoo lady who tells your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles. It's all the same; 50/50. So just pick your superstitions, sit back, make a wish and enjoy yourself. And for those of you that look to the Bible for it's literary qualities and moral lessons; I got a couple other stories I might like to recommend for you. You might enjoy The Three Little Pigs. That's a good one. It has a nice happy ending. Then there's Little Red Riding Hood. Although it does have that one x-rated part where the Big-Bad-Wolf actually eats the grandmother. Which I didn't care for, by the way. And finally, I've always drawn a great deal of moral comfort from Humpty Dumpty. The part I liked best: ...and all the king's horses, and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty together again. That's because there is no Humpty Dumpty, and there is no god. None. Not one. Never was. No god."

Oh sigh. Another failed attempt at being pious. Another group of people who think that prayer and going to church is all that might be needed to secure a place in heaven - forget actually being a good person. People, if such a place exists, you're gonna have to be more convincing than that!

Yeah, that's the problem with being Christian, when you die, you have to convince God you're not like all the rest. Fat chance!

I wonder exactly how they worded it? "Oh please god stop the evil heathens from providing health care for the undeserving meek, poor, and helpless. And especially stop them from providing health care for the children and those with the preexisting conditions that you saw fit to strike them with. Maybe you could care for them at much less expense to us and our friends in the insurance industry. And if you find that they are undeserving of such care, and instead deserve to die an indignant and painful death in your name, then so be it......Amen".

At least they're not doing anything useful. If only the lobbyists would follow suit. Looks like they realize the one true god in our society is called money.

Where to begin?
First off, the health care bill has been butchered so badly it's not even what it once was. Passing this POS legislation won't do a damned thing to actually help people now that the public option has hit the cutting room floor.
Secondly, there are more important things to pray for. Like a functioning brain.
Lastly, any idiot that tells their constituents in their state to "pray for God to stop the health care bill, instead of "pray to God to help people get jobs/ end the recession/ stay healthier" is someone who needs not to be elected next term. I'm talking to you, Bachman.

If I prayed, I would pray that these people can find something better to pray to god about. Maybe they could pray that less people get sick, or that cures for terminal diseases are found, or that more people become doctors. Instead, they use their religion to further their own agenda. Typical, hypocritical, sad.
