FROM THE NEWS BLOG: http://blogs.current.com/news/2009/12/21/lists-end-of-2009-and-end-of-the-2000s/

Last week we talked about Time magazine's Man of the Year and I made a list of the Top Ten News Stories of 2009 (it's on Hulu!) - but I felt like I would be remiss without making a round-up of all the good year-end and decade-end lists out there. I've just got a few here so post your favorites in the comments.

One of our favorite blogs of the year, Big Picture, posted its best photos of the year in three parts. Then, just to rub our noses in how awesome they are, they posted a best of the decade.

Foreign Policy magazine has a list of the top 10 stories you missed in 2009 - my favorite kind of list. Included are a new hotline between China and India's leaders and the opening of the Northeast Passage.

The New York Times Magazine has their ninth annual year in ideas. One of my favorites is "Social Networks as Foreign Policy" - talking about Twitter's role in the Iran election protests.

Current's team has put together some of our best of the year: The Rotten Tomatoes show had their Year Endies, Brett Erlich recalled the best Viral Videos of 2009, Current Music picked their top virals of the year, as did Current Comedy, and plenty more.

If the scope of just this year is too small for you, don't worry, The Onion has the Top Ten Stories of the Last 4.5 Billion Years.

And finally, the blog Fimoculous has tirelessly catalogued a 2009 List of Lists. You'll need look no further for a more meta, more comprehensive 2009 list.

So what else is out there? What's your favorite year-end or decade-end list?

    • im sorry but i would have expected, i don’t know more? from current... like knowing how a decade works?

      2001 to 2010... marco?? marco???

that being said, thank you for the list and links it has been an interesting ride into the next century as it were. with the whole y2k scam, followed by people not knowing when the new "millennium" is beginning, and now people not knowing what a decade is in terms of calendar dates.

i think what this has clearly shown is the serious decline in our collective education, how easy we are swayed by others into not thinking for ourselves. and how giddy we are to just follow the crowd like mindless sheep. all the time wondering in silence what the hell is going on and why things are in the state they are in... and ewwwww shinnny.

      I’m sorry where was i...

ah yes, we collectively need to wake up and understand that we are being taken for a ride, being lead around by our noses, and in this case i am speaking to many of those who are already awake and can see, just how messed up stuff really has gotten. the list of things that have gone wrong or are out of control are far to numerous to even begin to list.

and maybe that’s the point, we have stopped looking forward for long term solutions are seem to be fixated on short term magic solutions that reap more harm then good. then we are all left standing around going, what happened and what went wrong. forward thinking, common sense and stopping things that are just out right wrong. our over reactions are as painful and harmful as our lack of action. careful planning and leadership with the common good in mind is what is needed. sadly we are lacking both... everything is about profit, and as the only Cree Proverb goes.

Only after the last tree has been cut down; Only after the last fish has been caught; Only after the last river has been poisoned; Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

and sadly this is what we are racing towards, lets take a diffrent look at over population or climate change, and lets look at sustainable living. and sort the other problems out while we are doing it.
