Tyr....This guy never misses and is heralded on all news programs and Washington as well. Gerald Celente, trend forecaster, publisher of the Trends Journal, business consultant and author who makes predictions about the global financial markets and other events of historical importance. Celente accurately forecasted the 1987 stock market crash, the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the 1997 Asian currency crash and the 2007 subprime mortgage scandal. More recent forecasts involve fascism in the United States, food riots and tax revolts. He describes the emerging crisis as "Obamageddon."

George H.W. , George W., Obama, tons of foreign dignitaries all calling for NWO in their speeches, I think the tin foil hat is blocking information from your head not theirs. Tyr .... your basing your view on the economy on you and your wife's personal experience. The bailouts can do nothing but crash the economy that is why they were done in the first place. They faked a small recovery and propped up the markets to get us to spend during Christmas. January will be a whole different story for this country, we are teetering and the straw is about to land on the camel's back. Take a trip to Detroit and then tell me all is okay. Or, how about Indiana where they build motorhomes or northern Illinois where they build boats or California where nothing is okay. Many places are at 18% to 19% unemployment now, while there are pockets, like my town, Lexington, Kentucky that don't get hit as soon as others it is a domino effect eventually they all go down. My town has all of the hospitals that are used by people throughout the state essentially, temporarily, propping this town up. But, the small towns in Kentucky are all bankrupt and so is Lexington's city government and eventually it will catch up to my town and yours. Keep smiling and thinking positive without doing any preparation if you like, but me, I plan to survive all of this. What will you do when you wake up one morning and find you weren't ready for a complete financial collapse of our economy. The banks are closed and you can't get any money. You haven't stocked up on guns, food, or any survival needs. What will you then will all of your positive thinking? And, I repeat, no economist with any common sense would recommend the bailouts to the tune of MORE MONEY THAN CURRENTLY EXISTS IN PRINT. This was done on purpose to destroy our economy and force us to join the U.N. in a world government. They have admitted as much. Do you know where the bailout money went? Nobody does, not even our representatives in Congress. That should tell you something.

Monkey I am an artist and my wife is an exec in the insurance industry. We are both seeing a slight downturn, for me about 10%, for her a smaller bonus this year...not some cataclysmic event that you keep swearing we are in the midst of. My friend, get a hold of yourself...Yes there is unemployment, always has been always will be...lets say it's about 10% right now.... do you realize that means that 90% ARE employed? In a perfect world everybody would be happily working at a career they found rewarding and lucrative, as you know we don't live in a perfect world, so we make the best of an imperfect one. If you want to believe that we are on the brink of disaster be my guest,...however don't presume that because those like me that don't agree with you are fools.

corndog67 Your wife helps make the bombs that kill innocent people in illegal wars that we shouldn't be in and as such her job is booming. And you praise capitalism for that? Most of the rest of us can't just turn off our morality like that and so no job security for the hard working people that keep America rolling and Americans fed. When the military industrial complex is the only business that is booming you might be living in a fascist society. I'm just sayin'.

Morals? I go to work every day. I work all the overtime I'm asked to. But i don't give to the homeless.
And Like Tyr, I base my world view on how I'm doing. My little circle of trust (to paraphrase Robert DeNiro).
As for the comment about the Defense Industry, it pays for a kid at UC Berkeley, it pays for my motorcycles, the dog food, and it is pretty much recession proof.
I have to ask, how many hours a day do you go looking for things to gripe about? I'm come on here maybe a half hour a week, but you've got to be looking for this stuff for hours a day. Come on, tell us, inquiring minds want to know.

More doomsday. The place I work for has a very heavy work load. Last year it was down probably 30%. Now it is up about 30% above normal. Christmas bonus was excellent. Right now, unlimitied overtime. No raises though, this year, see the 30% decrease for the past year. The old ladies job, just got a raise, but no Christmas bonus. Very busy also. She is in the defense industry, as long as they are shooting missiles, she is working. I work in the race car industry, and things are smoking right now. We are buying shit. They way I look at it, things aren't always going to be so rosy. If one or both of us lost our jobs, we'd be up shit creek. But for now, we're smoking.
Hooray for capitalism.

artemis6 Yes, panic never solved anything, correct. As a matter of fact, fear and panic cause your body not to fight off infection and viruses nearly as well. That is why I believe paying attention to current events and comparing them to history and then taking some basic preparations if the signs foretell a financial collapse are smart moves. Panic will set in much worse for those who paid no attention and hence are 'surprised' when they find out the conspiracy theories were right as has happened in the past. I believe this is why the Boy Scouts use the motto, "Be Prepared". Somehow, I never got my scout leader's voice out of my head telling me to be prepared for anything at all times. I must say, it's come in handy many times when others were unprepared. Good point, artemis6.

You forget how well humans adapt to stress . Yeah , some are crazy , and cannot cope , others , well , talkin ain't doin' . Even IF the economy tanked and money was worthless , there would be a thriving underground bartering system come into place . It is not like this country is Dubai , that has few natural resources . Besides , no problem was ever intelligently solved by panicking ......

Tyr said: I believe in America regardless of which party is in the white house, because I believe that the American people, labor and management are very adaptable, you apparently don't share that belief. Comment aimed at JohnRaymond
Labor and management have no more room to adapt when the company they work for closes down. That is the 'cycle' we are in but anyone able to follow the money would know this isn't a 'cycle' we're in. This has been down, absolutely on purpose, by the criminals in Washington that you put so much trust in. Why would anyone with any sense of economics give more money than currently in circulation to bail out the banks. They were not the ones without money. Why would you give any money to the banks to bail them out unless you PLANNED on destroying the economy. If you're an economist and you post to tell me the same double talk as Obama, guess what, doesn't seem like it's working, does it? Maybe it's time to re-think American economics. Or, maybe it's time to deflate a few fat cats and send them packing looking for work, instead of the American people. Let's put the criminals at the Federal Reserve in prison, burn those promissory notes and print some money like JFK with the United States written all over them and Federal Reserve notes can become a collectors item for primitive days gone by.

You want me to face reality...who's reality? The guy who is in a trade such as building? Ok he is unemployed currently, when the developers were building houses as if there just was no ceiling and they were raising prices monthly it seemed as if it would never end...well it did end, because they overbuilt, but that won't last forever. I have had about a 10% decline in my business in the last two years, not the end of the world. This has nothing to do with Obama or Bush or who ever it is politically that you don't like. It has to do with business cycles, Jesus Christ! Read some books occasionally. The crash of 29 didn't last forever, nor did the recessions of the fifties or the seventys...I'll go on record here and now and say..this low point we are in right now will have an end..this country is going to make it through this, we always have...see, I believe in America regardless of which party is in the white house, because I believe that the American people, labor and management are very adaptable, you apparently don't share that belief.

Naomi Kline has reported as much.
"The Federal Reserve Bank of New York gave up much of its power in high-pressure negotiations with the American International Group's trading partners last year, according to a government report made public on Monday....
"The New York Fed, led then by Timothy F. Geithner, who is now the Treasury secretary, therefore had little leverage in the negotiations, according to a post-mortem of what has emerged as the most inflammatory episode in the rescue of A.I.G.
"The Fed 'refused to use its considerable leverage,' Neil M. Barofsky, the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, wrote in a report to be officially released on Tuesday, examining the much-criticized decision to make A.I.G.'s trading partners whole when people and businesses were taking painful losses in the financial markets.
"There have been suggestions that the Fed chose to negotiate weakly, Mr. Barofsky said, to give a 'backdoor bailout' to A.I.G.’s banks. He said Mr. Geithner and the Fed’s lawyers had denied this, but added that 'irrespective of their stated intent,' there was no doubt about the result: 'Tens of billions of dollars of government money was funneled inexorably and directly to A.I.G.'s counterparties.'"

tyr if you are so sure everything is okay then go spend all of your money on useless plastic and do nothing to prepare for the possibility if that makes you happy. However, I would suggest making some preparations just in case. Your military background should be enough to understand what it will take to survive SHOULD an economic breakdown occur. SHOULD something like that happen, those who paid no attention will find themselves in a sh*t storm, SHOULD our economy implode.

This is a really sad story. Our corrupt government is more concerned about bailing out the banksters and walstreet than it is about making sure our middle class has jobs. "The old boss same as the new boss". I see no change. I don't blame anyone who voted for Obama but the man has failed on his promise of change and transparency. The banksters and the corporate fascists still rule this country.

neocongo I would do just that if it weren't for the fact that you're asking me not to make opinions based on a singular event. A singular event that's happened over and over again, even twice in one week. Somehow that doesn't make it a singular event so when you can learn to count then, you can learn to lecture me, thank you and then and only then will I listen to your partisan political infantile ranting. Partisan politics have been know for years to be a part of a divide and conquer politics. This is used here and has been used by tyranny throughout history. Your persistence in using them as well as partisan labels makes me wonder if you are even capable of seeing the truth without extensive deprogramming. BTW, I voted NO CONFIDENCE, in the last election. Am not, have never been a partisan voter. I tend to think before I vote. Try it, you might find a new and wonderful country could arise from the ashes.

Oops, sorry, Ihatethemall, for the accidental insult. I in no way meant to say being a cop was in any way a suitable job for someone as responsible and hard working as a trucker. It was complete and utter sarcasm. Truckers actually keep this country alive and our heartbeat beating. My hat goes off to America's true heroes. While some cops may turn out to be heroes, I've yet to meet one of those, just saw a few on television news and keep having that Cop/Hero image forced into my brain by the overwhelming amount of (Hero) cops shows on entertainment TV with CIA, and Police representatives providing the story lines. . I have to keep reminding myself it's just a show.

I also get a lot of the numbers from the transportation industry. A major Railraod, I wont mention the name, considers 200,000 train cars a week loaded to be good numbers. Numbers they can work with and still make a profit, keep shareholders happy and do whatever it takes to keep a major railroad in business. The last 2 years they havent seen th numbers rise above 180,000 a week. Over the summer the numbers were in the 130 to 150,000 on a good week. The holiday season and the UPS shipments along with increased shipments of rail road pigs {those are the trailers that sit on the trains without wheels} drove the numbers up to around 173,000. They gave a warning to the employees that right after the holiday season expect a HUGE dropoff in car numbers. I see these numbers EVERY DAY 7 days a week. Today the number was 125,000. They will go up slightly after the holidays because everyone will be back to work but they arent expected to rise to the numbers seen years ago for a very long time if ever. They arent expected to get above 150,000 again for a long long time to come. This railraod in particular has over 4800 engineers and conductors laid off right now. Over 1800 engines in long term storage and are you ready for this number..................over 50,000 box cars in long term storage. Thats 25% of the rolling stock in storage because they have no use for it.
I was talking to someone the other day and he said to me......Things are looking better. I havent been this busy in the 38 years I have been working here. I know we are coming out of it. I said to him, didnt they close down all the other plants they have except the one you work at? He said yes they did...........
Does it take a rocket scientist to figure out that he is so busy because all the other plants at this company have been shut down. Obviously it does for some folks.
Those who think we are coming out of the recession are only fooling themselves.
Either blissfully ignorant by choice, or by what he/she watches on tv or what he/she hears and actually believes from those oh so trustworthy politicians we elect into office. It doesnt matter what the reason is its a sad state of affairs that they are foolish enough to believe it.The FDIC asked for and recieved a increase in the budget this year, They didnt do it because the banks are healthy. They still wont have enough to get them through the first half of the year.
