    • this is the kind of shit bin laden wants to happen. turn the war on terror into a war of civilizations between the west and the muslim world. The entire world was behind the us after 9/11. that sympathy was mostly eroded by the US's actions (mainly iraq).

and what most people seem to forget is how organized and intelligent an enemy al queda (sp?) is. ignoring the numerous homegrown terrorists, bin laden has been trying to recruit white people (with some success) for a long time. and lets not forget about how in 1986 a pregnant irish woman had a bomb planted in her luggage by her palestinian boyfriend.

profiling would waste resources and distract the authorities from the real threats. during the dc sniper fiasco police were looking for a white loner when it was real 2 black guys. because of this they were able to make it through numerous police roadblocks.

and as someone said earlier its racist and alienate people

    • shoe bomber tries, we take off our shoes. underwear bomber tries, we have to take off our skivvies? btw – is it true that the bomb didn’t detonate because the terrorist peed his pants and created a moist environment which was not conducive to detonation?

and an hour later i return to this post and, not surprisingly, find incredible racism, hatred for people we have probably not taken the time to get to know. at the same time some, but not enough people who will stand on, i don't know, justice, real principles, lack of prejudice, and a real understanding of races, culture, sexual orientation, etc. this is why i asked you about keeping up the posts of hateful, ignorant, uneducated people. i really want to know what's flying out there, as much as it hurts, and angers. (my original post was "let's just tattoo everyone--that hasn't been done before, right?" not many responses.

U.S. performer says forced to dance for Israeli airport security to prove identity

A performer with the famed American Alvin Ailey dance troupe on Tuesday said he was twice forced to perform steps for Israeli airport security officers to prove his identity before he was permitted to enter the country.

Abdur-Rahim Jackson, an eight-year veteran of the African American dance
ensemble, said he was singled out by Israel's renowned airport security
      b Advertisement
ecause he has a Muslim name. He called the experience embarrassing and said at one point, one of the officers even suggested he change his name.

To be greeted like this because of my name, it took me back a little bit,
      Jackson said.

Israel is the first stop on a six-nation tour celebrating the New York-based dance company's 50th anniversary. Earlier this year, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution calling the group a vital American cultural ambassador to the world.

Jackson said he was pulled aside from other members of the troupe when they arrived at Israel's international airport on Sunday night. He said he was taken to a holding room, where he was asked about the origins of his name. When he explained he was part of the dance group, he was asked to perform.

    • Wow I just had a chance to watch this video.

It sounds as if Gallagher thinks that we should adopt one of Israel's racist policies. The IDF once made a black man sing to prove he was with an entertainment entourage before he could clear customs at El Al. Should TSA start making blacks sing and dance before they can get on and off a plane like they do at El Al?

The IDF also recently shot up a laptop at a checkpoint. I guess Mike Gallagher thinks we shoud start adopting those policies as well.

What's next, should we adopt Israel's policies of dropping white phosphorous on Arabs too? What about adopting Israel's policies of shooting Palestinian children as they are walking home from school? What about murdering journalists?

    • Hey guys it is not about being racist. Being racist is hating a racial group such as Blacks, Indians, White, Jews "not the religion", Native American and ect. it is an ethnic discrimination so stop being ignorant. I am nether rep. or dem. so I could care less about titles. It is not the Muslims that are the threat it is radical Islam which guess what can be anyone one from the above list. the Islamic religion is not a race, so please get over yourselves when you throw racism out there. Also there are Muslim Christians and yes that guy in the video is stupid for saying that but that is just ignorance in believing that all Muslims are Islamic and not think that anyone can believe in the Islamic religion.

Islam is the problem. The rest of you have to waken to this realization and deal with it.

i mean, i don't even know if i should try to fight this one. it's too ludicrous.
we live in nothing as glorious as a communist system, nor a socialist one.
we live in a pathetic attempt at democracy called America.
and one man, Obama is not to blame.

these comments are becoming so cliche.

"judging from his healthcare bill your coworkers are right."

what is that? an attempt to use my own experience to sway me toward believing a minority of people that think Obama has some sort of omniscient power and control over each of us?

frankly, there is a hell of a lot more wrong with the entire world than a pathetic little bill.

    • reminds me of the first day back to work after Obama was elected. i will quote for you:

      employee 1:
"well, welcome to our new socialist America. Obama won."

      employee 2:
(10 minutes later, upon arriving to work)
"well, welcome to our new communist dictatorship. Obama won."

are you serious!? what's with all this, "Obama's government" B.S.?

are you seriously going to assign more responsibility to him than you did to Bush Jr.?

and, are you actually going to believe he's more than a puppet?

YOU elected him. now you have to deal with it.

get over the Muslim thing, too. it's tired and old having to listen to snotty Americans talk like they know anything more than what media personalities tell them.

Though I'm not racist, I'll try to explain.

      Religions are not races.

A person's geographic origin (e.g. Middle East) is not a race.

"Not all muslims wear turbans or veils. not all muslims are terrorists, and all terrorists arent muslim (aka the unibomber). I mean i dont have the answer but what can you really do?"

Turbans & veils are not races. They are articles of clothing.

ok i understand religion isnt a race. but what some of the people on this forum are proposing is profiling muslims, and by muslims they really mean middle eastern people, which is racist. I just dont understand how you can profile a religion because anyone can be a part of it regardless of thier background. and that doesnt answer my question, so ill ask again and leave race out of it. how can you profile a religion?

    • Islam is not only a religion, or an ideology, or a political system. Islam is a project. A critical distinction we need to make for our fellow non-Muslims is that for the vast majority of Muslims Islam is not just a religion but that it is a project. It is both a personal and a political project to implement Islamic norms, words, deeds, laws, and thoughts, everywhere. Ideologies can remain dead things in books on the shelf. Religions can be confined to aspects of worship. Islam is primarily about some people (the believers) regulating everybody's behavior. Muslims cannot just keep this to themselves; they are required to force this onto others, while also denying that they are doing precisely that.

Muhammad in the Hadith claims that Allah gave him all of the earth, that Allah gathered all of the earth for Muhammad to see and said that Islam will rule over all that was gathered. The Quran says that Islam is a message to all humankind and is an offer that the often unsuspecting non-Muslims cannot refuse. That's the project that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was, and still is (with ensuing legal jihad, etc.), pursuing.

      Here's a third option.

Airlines could offer two types of flights.

The first type of flight would offer pre-flight screening just as it is right now.

The second type of flight would, in addition to regular screening, use profiling as part of their screening process.

Passengers would then be allowed to make their flight plans based on the types of pre-flight screening used. Nobody would be forced to use either, but the second option might cost more.

Yeah, it's just a coincidence that they're Muslims.

I, too, agree that we should continue searching 90 year old grandmothers quite rigorously.

If not, it won't be long before a 90 year old granny stands up in the middle of a flight, gripping her cane in one hand, and a homemade bomb in the other, yelling "Praise Jesus! In the name of the LORD Jesus Christ, I command you to DIE for your SINS - Hallelujah !!!!!"

But let me make one thing clear. We must not profile young Muslim men. It makes no sense to do so - at all!

Wow... when Tiller "The Baby Killer" was killed by an American, I hope that you were advocating gun control for all Americans.

Not to mention the guy was AFRICAN, and not Middle Eastern. Are you going to check everyone who identifies with Islamic beliefs, or are you just going to go after everyone who looks Middle Eastern? Hell, while you're at it, let's throw black people in there too... It can be like old times when the white people had their own line, and the "coloreds" had their own line, except we can call it profiling instead of segregation.

Either you keep checking grandma for bombs or you check no one. Nobody is forcing you to fly in an airplane.

    • about the OKC bomber...right on.

after 9/11 we decided that all Muslims are evil terrorists intent on destroying our ability to buy iPhones and iPods. we bombed Baghdad mercilessly for no real reason.

when McViegh bombed the federal building, shouldn't we have started bombing large cities of white people here in America? our logic would indicate that it would have been 'right'.

for some reason people confuse Muslims with other things that they are not.

i fear Americans. i believe that there is enough evidence to back up my fear.

also, who cares what these jackasses on television say? do they represent us, you?

let's not fall into their web and devote too much time to analyzing their stupidity.

racism is wrong. we are all human beings. disliking anyone for any reason related to their race or religion, regardless of what your TV box tells you, is wrong.

    • well youve got to admit its logical - muslims are the ones attacking planes, so why dont take extra precautions when encountering muslims? in my opinion, political correctness has gone way past the point of insanity, so who cares. the only problem with this is that the muslim extremists will start changing their names, maybe dying their hair, or even stealing other children of different decent to be trained to do their dirty work so they couldnt get profiled.

i think the bottom line is that these attacks arent going to stop until the muslim extremists stop, and no extra security measures are going to change that. a terrorist tried to do the shoe thing, so they now have everyone take off their shoes. now someone sowed stuff into his underwear, and they are going to make some new rule to make sure that never happens again. but they are going to find some other way to get something on a plane, and then the security people are going to make some other new rule. and on and on the cycle will go.

Profiling doesn't work, it causes more of an inconvienience thus wasted time and harm, and above all ,further cements the stigmas surrounding ethnic minoriites. With our sophisticated technologies we should be looking at social networks of terrorists not what they look like.

Or perhaps every airline could offer flights with NO screening lines at all. Or maybe an airline that won't hurt anybody's feelings by pulling aside people who have attributes in common with others who have been trying to blow up airplanes and KILL Americans!

That would be great if there was an air travel option where nobody's feelings would get hurt! When you arrive at the airport, just follow the signs that say "No Hurt Feelings Entrance - This Way" that lead directly to the happy airplane!

That way you could avoid those lines and get into your comfy airplane seat quick, right next to a person who has a carry on bag loaded with twenty pounds of explosives to be used to blow up all of the "fair" people who were kind enough not to profile him.

    • There is nothing wrong with profiling. It is not being racist, it is being responsible. I can be pigeon-holed into multiple stereotypes myself. If the TSA deams "my type" a threat to the general traveling public, I will gladly accept the additional scutiny as a safety precation... I have nothing to hide. Let's quit sceening 98 year old ladies (yes, I witnessed this in 2006) in the name of political correctness and focus on the real threats... young men of Middle Eastern descent. The problem with profiling young men of Middle Eastern descent is that
      1. You aren't one - so you don't know what the hell you're talking about
      2. It will piss them off to the point of motivating them to actually become terrorists and make the process a self fulfilling prophecy.
      3. It IS racist - If you want to advocate this then stand up, be proud, and tell the world, "I am a racist. Racism is OK"

Be honest. Admit to what you are.

You do not know me, so don't even think about calling me a racist you son of a bitch! I have friends of nearly every color of the rainbow! I am only looking for a way to lessen the chance of my family being a victim of terrorism. The radical Muslim world has declared war on the Western World (Jihad!) Maybe a "separate" line is not feasible nor relevent, but random searches of 80 year old ladies aren't either! There have been some good points made (thanks, chiortramp23) on this thread, which is why it was put forth... to stimulate constructive dialog. Your name spewing is not constructive! And no, I am not middle eastern, but am a member of a religeous affiliation that has been highly stereotyped and descriminated against, so don't tell me I "don't know what the hell I am talking about!" And finally... I am not motivated to eat pork because everywhere I look there is pork on a menu and every friend that invites me to diner has some item with pork in it, what the hell would make you think that because someone who fits a profile is screened, that they will will suddenly say, "Hell yea, If they are going to screen me, then F*** it, I might as well become a terrorist!" Are you serious? Really?!?

As far as not giving a damn about fairness, well I think you're right - that is if "fairness" means making sure not to offend anybody at the expense of a few people here and there being blown up by people who are allowed to do so because such "fairness" allows for it.

I'm sure that Al-Qaeda is very much for these ideas of "fairness" as well. It makes their task a whole lot easier.

The point he's making is that there are plenty of white people who are capable of pulling off terrorist attacks, and putting Muslims in a separate line wont make a difference. It wont make a difference because the problem with airport security is that they don't use common sense; not that they aren't segregating people properly.

Notice that after the Oklahoma bombings, there wasn't a wave of racism against white people. White people weren't singled out at airports, and it probably wasn't any harder to rent uhaul trucks for whites either.

Just because the terrorists hate fairness doesn't mean we should do the same. When we do that, nobody is in the right, and everybody loses.

    • How bout we put these jackasses from FOX on a separate line? I don't want to be on the same plane as these right wing lunatics.

"I'm not opposed to profiling..." WTF?! Yeah, I guess you wouldn't be. White people don't get profiled.

If I saw anymore bile spewed out on that video, I'd swear I was watching The Exorcist.

White people don't get profiled???? Really? Considering that I was pulled from line and thoroughly sceened 37 out of 40 flights between 2001 and 2009, I would say there must be some type of white profiling... Maybe its the shaved head and beard that draw suspicion. Don't give me that crap!
