According to oppostion website Rahesabz.net, former presidential candidate Hossein Moussavi and opposition leader Mehdi Karoubi were driven out of Tehran; citing the official IRNA agency, the site explained that 'members of the Revolutionary Guard and Intelligence Ministry had taken Moussavi and Karoubi in the city of Kelar-Abad (...) to protect them from the wrath of the people'.

Kelar-Abad lies north of Tehran.

On Karoubi's own website, however, his son denied that his father had left the capital.

The official media reported that the two men were removed from Tehran as hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, gathered Wednesday throughout Iran to support the regime and denounce the opposition leaders.
