Investigative reporter Aram Roston revealed in a recent edition of Playboy Magazine that a con-man fooled CIA spies into grounding international flights by selling them fake technology to decode al-Qaida messages hidden in TV broadcasts. In 2003, Dennis Montgomery was chief technology officer at eTreppid Technologies. According to the report, Montgomery convinced the CIA that he had software that could detect and decrypt "barcodes" in broadcasts by Al Jazeera, the Qatari news station.
