Only Muslims Can Stop Muslim Terror

If America is going to win the fight against radical Islam, moderate Muslims will have to lead the charge—and explain to the rest of us how we can help.
President Obama warns against “extremism.” Former Vice President Dick Cheney declaims against “terrorists.” But they hardly ever bark the essential word, the almost always absent critical adjective: Muslim. Almost all the terrorist and extremist violence in the world today is committed by Muslims—and in most instances, the victims are Muslims themselves. What’s afoot here is Muslim extremism—despite the fact that the great majority of Muslims aren’t radicals and condemn terrorism.
President Obama got somewhat more specific in his press appearance Thursday regarding the Christmas bombing attempt. He said that the United States was “at war against al Qaeda.” Indeed, we are, and al Qaeda is surely the main Muslim terrorist organization we are fighting. But it is not the only one. Many of the Muslim terrorist groups around the world are their own bosses, particularly in Asia and also in the Middle East. Nonetheless, he still avoided the Muslim nature of the problem.
The great majority of sensible and moderate Muslims must take up operational and actual arms against the terrorists. It can’t be just rhetoric, which is the only weapon of most moderate Muslim groups right now.

Islamofascists and enemies of freedom of speech in action at UC Irvine.
Film shows Israel's Ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, trying to speak at UC Irvine on February 8, 2010, during numerous shouts trying to drown him out.
Ambassador Oren persevered, completing his speech, and 11 students who disrupted his speech were escorted out by police. Please see the Uncivilized Tactics at UC Irvine Part 2, where cameras followed the student group out of the auditorium and catches the leader congratulating the whole group for shutting down Ambassador Oren's speech.

Jew hating Islamonazis rally in Paris this time in colour with 'allah hu akbar' instead of 'sieg heil'.
Hezbollah ( a mass murdering terrorist group) flags are seen throughout the rally.
1:35 A banner proclaiming support of the Iraq resistance
2:08 You can see someone holding a photo of terrorist leader Hassan Nasrallah
2:50-3:30 - Chants in Arabic saying "We are the soldiers of Mohammad"
2:55-2:50 - Jihadi taunting the police
6:10 - The "youths" burning an Israeli flag
6:48 - Burning another Israeli flag to shouts of Allah Akbar
Watch it to the end. When they started burning flags, the violence began, a McDonnalds was destroyed and several cars torched later that evening. Just par for the course for the Muslim punks in Paris.
Note the ever present chant (heard at all these jihad demostrations) the genocidal Khaibar Khaibar ya yahud, jaish Muhammed sa-ya'ud--the chant reminding the Jews of Muhammad and his army's slaughter and mass beheading of the Jews of Khaibar, after they had surrendered.
This true ahem " Prophet of God" beheaded between 700 and 900 unarmed prisoners of war who surrendered to him, and enslaved all their women and children. All the young women were raped, including the 17 years Saphia whom Muhammad raped. Another soldier was going to rape Saphia, but because she was, the most beautiful, Muhammad took herthe Jewish girl for himself, and gave him another woman to rape. Muslims claim (of course) that Saphia entered the relationship voluntarily (after Muhammad killed her brothers, father and tortured her husband to death.)
You can hear this chant at most pro-jihad, Fakestinian demonstrations.

This video is relevant to the topic. When violence and demonstrations were increasing in Lebanon a few years ago Indonesia was able to serve a critical role in the UN's effort to maintain order. The Indonesian Army (Garuda) has become a source of pride. As is turned out the entire world is very fortunate that Indonesia did not follow Bush's request for military presence in Iraq. If they had moved into Iraq they may not have been available in Lebanon, and their efforts would have been construed as hypocritical.

goodname and cztheday's points are well made. I want to add one more point. Among one billion Muslims in the world maybe 100,000,000 are Fundamentalists. Of those maybe 1,000,000 are extremists. Finally, there is a small percentage of terrorists among that many extremists. Fundamentalists actually do a few things to check on others in the community when they fail to show at the mosque. A parallel would be Timothy McVeigh, who had told others that "things had changed" when he flipped and went on his own terror spree.

all muslims should very much be working against muslim extremists, so should everyone else, and not only against muslim extremists but against all extremists.
what cant be forgotton is that most muslim countries are in the 3rd world and dont have much of anything to attack the extremists with. if the worlds largest superpower and NATO cant wipe them out, do you think joe 6 pack o camels is gonna do any better.
secondly, on an theological front no one can beat these extremists, thats why they are extremists. they are stuck in their own twisted and perverted interprtation of god's will and arent going to accept any other. they have no sense of reason.whether you see it or not, and despite the above mentioned. there are muslims who are part of the fight, people have to keep in mind that more muslims are dying at the hands of terrorists than anyone else, and many would like to see them eradicated much more than any bush lovin, nascarr watching, red-meat eating, american.

Right on target, goodname. It is a little frustrating to hear people comment as though Muslims are just standing idly by as these extremists go about their horrifying business or that it is the responsibility of some Muslim in the Phillipines or Indonesia or even in Afghanistan whose sole focus is and must be gathering enough calories together so that his family can live another 24 hours to go off and pressure armed Muslim extremists to lay down their weapons. Reality takes a holiday...

There was a nice guy who ran a restaurant ion San Rafael. He was Iranian and when the hostages were taken, he put a big sign up across his place in support of America. He left no doubt about whether he was a US citizen.
Of course, it was a shame that he had fear that someone might do something to his place because of the headlines.
Still, he made his voice clearly heard.
That's what I believe, these terrorists are requiring of the regular non terrorist Muslim.
Their voice needs to be heard by the whole world - all the time, without let up and most importantly by the common youth throughout the middle east and everywhere else in the Muslim world.Right now, we hear of Muslim schools -all over- being recruiting depots for terrorism. This bespeaks of a generally accepted view that to fight for Allah against the infidel is hugely accepted idea - throughout Islam.
THAT is what needs to be saturated with the true Muslim, moderate beliefs. Because right now, the moderate beliefs are just an unseen small talk on prattle internet discussion boards.

Smokey the bear? Terrorism will be defeated when we stop terrorizing the Middle East and planning false flag terrorist attacks on our own people to make them hate brown people. It's been done in the past here in the states after slavery, and in every war. We train our soldiers to be racist and then do the same for the people via 'entertainment' and 'news'.

While I would agree that moderate Muslims have a role to play in moderating extremists, I think there are some assumption problems.
Consider this: there are moderate Democrats and even (a few) moderate Republicans. From your own observations, how often do the elements of the two parties that exist further to the left or right change their views simply because someone with a more moderate view asks or tells them to? At least IMHO, "rarely" would actually overstate the frequency with which that occurs.
Further, most Muslims live in economic circumstances that would fall below what we consider to be the poverty line in the United States. The vast majority, at least from what I can see, have their hands full just raising their families, putting food on the table, and keeping body and soul together, so to speak. Asking these people to stick their necks out (literally) and possibly jeopardize their lives and the lives of their families by shaking their fingers at the more extreme members of their religion is kind of easy for us in the U.S. to say from the safety and comfort of our family rooms.
Additionally, just like Christians, Muslims live in countries all around the world. In my own case, just because I am a Christian does not, in my mind, somehow make me responsible for the bad behavior of some extreme Christian sect in Romania or Nigeria or wherever. By the same token, I could see where a quietly faithful Muslim in Indonesia might not feel any particular compulsion to take on Muslim extremists in Pakistan, thousands and thousands of miles away.
Lastly, I find that the old "carrot and stick" approach is pretty universal. I am somewhat puzzled as to the incentives moderate Muslims would offer extremists to persuade them to moderate...or what punishment they would be in a position to impose if the extremists failed or refused to do so.

There's a lot of issues being discussed.
It's a matter of whether Muslims are joining western civilization - or whether they intend to ruin it. While your 'moderate Muslims' want a good life and have made concessions to western culture - right now, there are millions across the world for whom "death to America" is real.So real, that it is a question of just who will survive. Will the generations of Muslims coming marry up to a form of westernized culture? Or will the spreading of Islam retain too much of the ages-old hatreds?
How is the big stir-fry going to come out?
One of the present aspects is a hatred of western culture as seen in the middle east. While real money doesn't care about this stuff, not too much, anyway, there are legions upon legions of people who believe right down to their very marrow that our culture is antithesis of God's way, Allah's way.
And I have thought, what young man (who has been telling himself Allah has 59 virgins waiting for him) is going to accept his only possible bet for a wife getting the idea to smoke Virginia Slims and go clubbing with the girls?
Our culture SCARES the PISS out of those poor, socially undeveloped males. How many millions of poor Muslim middle eastern males are frightened to death of their culture changing, coming out of the dark ages, becoming more like they think is America?
Because this is a divide that a beer and a few jokes are not going to bridge.
So are the 'moderate Muslims' going to leave their culture behind? - No. But how much of what ails Islam will retain?
There are many Muslims in Europe - France and Italy - and there is a real problem going on there. My friends in Rome tell me they are demanding that anything that offends Allah should be banned - like catholic holidays and like that.
How 'bout, anyone who abuses the Koran should be killed?
The whole thing comes down to - will there be a problem, or no problem? What's going to happen?

Ask any Muslim -male- what should happen to people who would physically damage a Koran - and they'll tell you, like it is just as normal as breathing, that the person should be put to death. Immediately.
So my note here was not some imaginary line to weigh ideas concerning these 'good books'
There is a sharp difference between the way these religions are.The Anglican Bishop of Baghdad said, concerning what was happening there, that "We Christians were bad, in the middle ages and with the Inquisition, but now Islam is bad. It is gone bad right now... "

I was stumped by this: "The great majority of sensible and moderate Muslims must take up operational and actual arms against the terrorists. It can’t be just rhetoric, which is the only weapon of most moderate Muslim groups right now."
I have a really hard time with anything suggesting that not only should moderate followers of Islam take responsibility for their extremist counterparts (for which they do have some responsibility, but as Saladin pointed out, our own involvement can not be discounted) but they should use violence to solve this ...
The article goes on to say "Only Muslims can argue with other Muslims about what the Koran says and doesn’t say. If Westerners enter that arena, the sole issues become infidel versus believer, and oppressor versus victim. It was one thing for the United States to enter the ideological and philosophical lists against Hitler or the Soviet Union. These countries shared a Christian and European heritage. But there has been little sharing between Western societies and Islam."
This is an interesting point, and the rest of the article talks about wanting Muslims to help America in the fight against terrorism...but if this is what we want, then a lot more of the responsibility lies on our shoulders than the author thinks. Even here on some Current posts you can see the blatant and reinforced bigotry against Muslims; many Americans DON'T believe that "moderate Muslims" exist. Muslims are just experiencing a sort of mainstreaming into American culture, and in other countries (France for example) they face even more challenges.

Moderate Muslims cannot help anyone without the West.
In order for moderate Muslims to hold that kind of influence there must be bonding between the West and the East. As long as we appear to be living in two different worlds permanent peace will be regarded by radical Muslims as impossible. Take a look and you will see that while Western culture spreads East, the same sharing is not occurring in the opposite direction.
Anyone in Southeast Asia can purchase Miley Cyrus records, for example, because Western culture is heavily exported. But bonding is prevented because a hypothetical Eastern Miley Cyrus would be unpopular in the West, and record companies would not shop for stars in the East. Ultimately, it is up to the west to begin the bonding. As long as there is no bond there will always be the appearance of 'two worlds'.
The best thing anyone in the West can do is to challenge cultural trade barriers between the East and the West. We may have to go further than buying Zee Avi records. I have some good news. Zee Avi is a good start, but the East has a cornucopia of great musical and artistic talent just waiting to be discovered.
I've posted some of this talent over the past year here on Current. I plan to continue in the next year. Stay tuned and do join in.

I agree with the sentiment of the article, but with caution.
Only Muslims can stop their insane comrades from committing the acts by, at the very least, refusing to provide them material support.
But this isn't a one-way street. U.S. Imperialism must stop if we expect terrorism to end. Shifting the burden of guilt over to Muslims and expecting them to do everything while we continue to tear their world apart in the name of oil is obviously hypocritical.

Cindy Sheehan is a local where I live and is generally despised for being a media whore. Anything to get on the news.
The writer of the above commentary is absolutely right. For this terrorism shit to stop, especially terrorism by Muslims, it has to come from within. They blame the US and Western Civilization for every thing wrong with them. But they have been fighting each other for hundreds of years. They are going to keep fighting each other. The Muslims and the Jews both feel that neither side has a right to exist. You've got a small group of Middle Eastern businessmen that control a very large amount of money, that are very Westernized, that are also the enemies of the Radical Muslims. So they are pissed off because they live in caves and farm rocks. They blame us for their problems, yet they have these backward ways, not educating women, keeping their women under wraps so nobody can see them. Bombing schools. Bombing hospitals. They are fucking stupid. They aren't going to win. They'll keep it up until someone drops a Nuke, and the rest of the world turns them into radioactive dust.

Muslims are going to have to tell other Muslims: "No"
Everything else is ancillary. Silence is agreement. Silence is voting for.
At some point, someone has to come out and lead Islam away from this stuff - because the people fomenting it are not going to stop.Without terrorism, all those terrorists would have to go back to having nothing for a life.
There's nothing but money being poured over there. It is Muslims who are making money on America - it's just that they aren't sharing it.
Cause everyone of them is thinking about their personal little ass. It isn't a great satan that is the problem in the middle east, it's a stingy few.

PEACE of the Action: "How do we stop this constant cycle of violence that is perpetrated, fomented and encouraged by the U.S. Empire? We have to realize that the people of Yemen have the same existential imperative as do the 300 travlers aboard the flight from Amsterdam to Detroit!
We have to fully internalize that those 700 slaughtered people of Pakistan had as much right to life as the seven CIA operatives!
If we put ourselves in the home of the family where eight children were executed and try to visualize how we would feel if the occupying Empire broke into our home and killed every child that we had and how terrorizing and devastating that would be, then maybe, just maybe, AND FINALLY, we would rise up against our own violent government?
I have dubbed 2010 the YEAR OF RESISTANCE and we must sacrifice some of our creature comforts for peace—not just peace here at home, but most of all, peace abroad!"

BS. The reason for this war is offensive aggression by the United States. We must steal everyones natural resources and dominate and control everyone under the guises of spreading democracy and freedom, neither of which we have in this country. It's time for new leaders.
