“She was the center of our family and taught all of her children that family is to be treasured, loyalty is paramount and faith will guide you through the tough times,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “She believed in us, and because of that, we believed in ourselves.”
The vice president was at his mother’s side at the time of her death.

My mother died several years ago at the age of 100. I miss her very much and still love her but I recognize the fact that the ultimate result of life is always death. Joe's mother lived a long life and had time to glory in the achievements of her son. RIP Mrs. Biden.

The only thing that is born and has to die is the body. All souls are eternal.

You could not arrive at definitive proof of something like that with today's scientific methodology and technology. It is beyond our mental capacity to perceive it. I.E. string theory, which we believe in some manifestation is accurate. We just don't have the technology to test it yet and we're too hesitant to observe non-traditional fields of inquiry. Rest assured it is true to all of those that can feel it. And don't simply trade in religious dogma for a scientific one.
P.S. I am not a religious individual, but I am a spiritual one.

That's sad. :(
I know people like to hate on Joe, but hopefully something like a mother dying can eclipse the typical partisan mocking.
Unlikely, but meh.

Though my condolences go out, it's not some great tragedy. Given Joe's age, I'm going to assume that his mother lived a long life and passed away from old age as is the natural way of all living things. Hopefully she passed away peacefully.

you can always count on at least one semi-snarky, unnecessary comment to a reported death.

I'm sorry for having to ask, but what's semi snarky about my response?

Well let's put you in his shoes to make it more clear. Someone you are close to dies and some insensitive individual's comment is "while it's sad this person died, s/he was old anyway and death was imminent so no biggie." When people die, offer condolences and put a period. It seems semi-psycho to even utter the comment that "it's not some great tragedy." Why would you even say that?

I saw nothing insensitive in the original comment. Perhaps you are just looking for shit that isn't there. Good post bishopobispo!

Whether you see it or not is kinda beside the point. I was merely speaking of how the comment can be perceived and received by others which is a completely different matter.

How the comment is perceived is the only thing that should matter!

Right... and I was merely say how I perceived it (which is completely in line with reason) and not how you perceived it so I'm not sure what you are arguing about. It seems circular.

Ok... I'm sorry that I have a realistic view of life and death, and that I stated that death is something that happens to us all, and that she died of what I assume is old age. Is there anything else that you thought was snarky, perhaps I should apologize for saying that hopefully she passed away peacefully too?

I truly do not want to go back and forth about it. I merely commented on the inappropriateness of the "not some great tragedy" comment which can definitely be perceived as offensive since obviously you would never say that to anyone's face who lost someone so why say it online? There is no broader message or motive to the comment. It's nothing to get defensive about or to act like my comment was driving at more than it was.

Bullshit, I said the same thing about my Grandfather when he died this last August. Nobody thought it was rude or the like. I was told he died when I was away on a fire camp, and my response to my mother when I learned about it was more or less, "Well, he was old. I'm sad to see him go, but it's not a shock that he passed away, nor is it like he died young. He died at a ripe old age." So don't feed me this crap about how I would say something like this online behind ambiguity, but I wouldn't dare say that to someone I know or to someones face.
