President Obama to Request Another $33 Billion for Unpopular Wars

Monkey_Films
I must ask these questions? If we are doomed if we don't pay carbon taxes because pollution is causing Global Warming, wouldn't that make Obama guilty of murdering everyone and not just Afghans with this war? What would 33 Billion dollars do for the economy? What would 33 Billion dollars do for green energy? What you 33 Billions dollars do to fight Global Warming? How many lives could be saved with 33 Billion dollars? How many animals could be saved with 33 Billions dollars? How many solar panels could be bought with 33 Billion dollars? How many wind farms could be built with 33 Billion dollars? How much could we pay down our debt with 33 Billion dollars? Ooops, guess that one is self explanatory, lol. If you had 33 Billion dollars would you use it for good or would you use it for greed?

    • This is indeed sad in the reference of what that money could be used for. An in depth study shows almost all U.S. wars have been for the banks and the military industrial complex. These countries would respond better if we spent 33 billion upgrading their infrastructure and giving them access to information and technology.

Former Pres. Bush invaded Iraq with the excuse and without solid proof that they had weapons of mass destruction. Congress never declared war in Iraq...Bush just went on in invading it illegally. His father on the other hand invaded Kuwait with brilliance. He got other nations to cooperate and ended Iraq occupation within six weeks. Now, in response to the terrorist attack on 9-11 Bush gave himself the excuse to declare the "perfect" and invisible war (of which you say) on terrorist. It makes since because terrorist exists everywhere and anywhere in the world. My question is if Osama Bin Ladin was the blame and greatest terrorist threat to America at that time then why didn't he go after Bin Ladin instead Saddam? These are the points as to why I said Bush was and idiot. Maybe not literally but the way he decided to go about dealing with these situations is what caused a lot of damage.

As for Afghanistan, just because he is sending more troops and money to our military over there doesn't mean the war is going last any longer. As I have replied to Monkey_Films, I said that it is smart to get a huge sum of troops in Afghanistan now, get the war over with the most power you can in a short amount of time. Time which Obama said would be in 2012 (if everything goes right). I'm against the war because interventionism does create more terrorism but now that we have made their problems our problem with the excuse of the Taliban being a terrorist threat, we can't just leave Afghanistan like if nothing ever happened.

History does reveal to us that we have failed a war that wasn't even ours in the first place in Vietnam. You can compare Afghanistan and say its just another Vietnam war. In a sense the enemy IS invisible thus making it more difficult to fight this war than the Vietnam war but unlike the Vietnam war other nations agree with the US and are also participating in this war.

    • I agree with you completely concerning Afghanistan. I have been in the Army my entire adult life (straight out of High School). I did two tours in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan. My unit received it’s deployment orders a few weeks ago (read the paper and take a guess….I am sure you guess which Unit)….and of course, I miss my family, my friends and even after all this time I am still scared (but that little bit of fear keeps you razor sharp)……….Afghanistan is a just war. The legal, democratic Afghanistan government wants us there. The Afghan soldiers and villages want us there. They are a proud and fiercely independent people and have no desire to live under the oppressive regimen of the religious Taliban government. We need the surge of troops, updated technology and newer modern equipment to succeed. We also have to convince the Afghan people were are their friends and develop strong diplomatic ties with the various Afghan tribes. If, we fail our new Afghan allies, Pakistan is soon to follow. I don’t know who can sleep safe at night with a militant Islamic Government armed with nuclear weapons. The boogie man is real, don’t forgot that and thank a soldier or any member of the Armed Services if you ever have the peasure of meeting him/her………………….proud since 94’ Sua Sponte

    • Pajarito, because the reasons for this war are a lie. Even if Bush started it, that should be more than enough reason to leave. Occupation creates terrorists, not hatred of freedom.

I agree with you on that point of which is what Ron Paul also says, interventionism and occupation does destroy families and does create more terrorists. However because there are so many variables that are tied within the war in Afghanistan Obama can't just bring the troops back just like that. Remember that a major key point that started World War 1 was tension. Tension that is occurring today with Yemen, Iran, Pakistan, and other nations. Obama said that he is going to start to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by 2012 (if everything goes well). However is tension gets any bigger and other conflicts escalate we may be in there for a longer war. That's why its smart to get a huge sum of troops in Afghanistan now, get the war over with the most power you can in a short amount of time. Let's just hope that all goes well before 2012.

Although the Afghan war is not our problem like bking has said... the Afghans want us there right now. Especially after the the re-election. If more troops and money is what we need then let the aid continue, so long as Obama keeps his word.

    • Whether you agree with this escalation or not, one thing is certain: Obama doesn't deserve a Nobel Peace Prize.

I was hopeful for his administration at first but now I'm aware that we were simply "good cop-bad cop(ed)"-same policies implemented by a more convincing speaker.

There are a few things to concider regarding the war in Afghanistan:

      1. We are there under false pretences as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen are far more significant threats as terrorist sponsoring nations.

      2. The war is really about world energy reserves (as a conduit not a producer). Secondarily, it's necessary for the world financial markets (particularly US banks) to keep the opium flowing as our banking system would collapse completely without laundered drug money( $500B-$1T annually). The Taliban destroyed all of their opium farms months before the invasion.

      3. No one has ever won a war in Afghanistan. They all think they are winning until a decade or more later they find themselves in an unwinnable conflict. This was most recently shown to be true with the Russian invasion but has been true for centuries.

Consider: "Never get involved in a land war in Asia" Gen. Douglas MacArthur (and Princess Bride, two thumbs up!)

Anyone who wants to fight in Afghanistan can volunteer if they want...as long as they also volunteer to pay for it themselves.

I was getting ready to smash away at my keyboard and unleash the storm that has been brewing in my brain for awhile now, esp about Afghanistan but Gavin, you storm my thunder...great post. I agree with you completely. I don't understand why more people don't realize (or chose to ignore many of the points that you made)....thank you for beating me to the punch and unleashing some pure truth!.........B

    • If you really looked at Obamas performance you would see that he has done a lot for America and I know for a fact that he handled these situations a lot better than former Bush would've. I think he is being well open-minded taking every opinion in the white house from both enemies and advocates despite the pressure and conflicts that lead to another. I'm sure his decisions are carefully reviewed and wise. Bush was an idiot and the amount of damage he has done compares nothing to what Obama has done so far. I'm sure Obama wants to legalize MJ, look at the drug war, green energy, gay marriage, and many issues... but he has to work on the major issues happening right now like the situation in Afghanistan, Iran, Haiti, Healthcare, ect FIRST. He can't just leave them unfinished like Bush did. If our American troops need more aid then let it be! Geesh whats wrong with people today not wanted to help our own people. So please America...just have patience. Something we all need.

    • Pajarito7:

Pajarito, your points are all well-taken. The notion that because the Afghanistan war that began 9 years ago is now Obama's war simply because it is still going on a year after he took office is not only absurd, it is hopelessly naive. If the U.S. pulled out today...or even in 90 days, the report that was just prepared by the General who recommended 40,000 troops a few months ago...name escapes me right at the moment, but I know he was portrayed as a Petraeus deciple could not have been clearer that Afghanistan would become a terrorist state.

It may be a poor nation, but nonetheless, having an entire nation and the bulk of its reources to serve as a base of operations would provide Al Qaeda and a number of other groups with similar agendas the opportunity to kill and spread fear and panic all over the world on a scale we have not seen before. Hey, I certainly understand that it would be nice if we could all be 10 years old and able to pretend that the world is safe because Mommy and Daddy are there to make it so. But the rest of us have to live in the adult world.

And of course th person who posted this drivel, Monkey Films, has an agenda that is laughably transparent...he could not give a shit less whether the wars in those countries ended. All he cares about is throwing shit at Obama because that is what monkeys do...

    • Does he have to put everything on the credit cards? Can't we put a few things on layaway? 33 billion dollars that will again just "appear" from out of "nowhere" and slowly lead to a loaf of bread costing more than most people make in a day.

infowars is great.....and the Military Industrial Complex is live and well. Many wars are fought simply for business and profit. I have spent my entire adult life in the Military and a few weeks ago we received our deployment orders once again 3 time in 4 1/2 years. The combat arms division in the Army are stretched to the breaking point. But, strange as this sounds, I believe Afghanistan is justified war. The Afghan people want us there, they want to live in peace. Not be ruled by the harsh rule of the Taliban..............

Bushido it's tough being a even just a bit right wing on Current. You get slammed all the time. Mention war or violence and your labeled a baby killer, murder or worse. I agree with a lot these people have to say concern certain social issues about they are so naive about security issues. People don't realize or accept that the world is filed with people who want to destroy our way of life.
