No one was hurt which makes this hysterical. Please see 1st comment for obnoxious update.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A small plane headed to the Hudson River and flying a banner marking the one-year anniversary of the safe landing there instead made an emergency landing in the former Fresh Kills landfill.

New York City police said today the pilot is out of the aircraft and is safe. The two-seater had no other passengers on board. His name wasn’t released.

The plane landed at 12:35 p.m. at the Fresh Kills landfill after experiencing engine trouble. Police said it came from New Jersey. It was flying a banner in honor of US Airways Flight 1549.

The Piper PA 18 is registered to Smoketown Banners LLC out of New Holland, Pa.

    • Re the pilot I understand & hear you. As to banner dont know the folk behind the campaign but I would venture a guess they would not seek to offend any, rather express an opinion about eternal matters and an answer to issue raised. Reference John 14 is where Jesus stated that he is the way truth and life etc. Again not saying the display would be my choice but there you have it Wishing you well

LOL It made "All Things Considered" on NPR. That was how I found out about the banner because the original story was never updated with the banner information by my local paper. I only paid attention to it because it is about 6 miles from my house.

I would assume that it was around 1/15. I heard the story and then posted. Usually it is a same day thing with me but a day may have elapsed. I tried to find it for you, but I couldn't. I do remember that I heard it and that is why I sought it out.

Like I said, nothing against you. I realize that you are just earning a living, but it was pretty bad form on the people that commissioned it.

folks, I met the pilot last night he is a very nice guy just doing his job for the company that hired to undertake banner ad. As to the benefit of the exercise, well I to may have scoffed at it many years ago. However I had to face that question myself and finding out I was not ready for eternity and rather headed for hell was not fun but also finding out How Much God loved me a sinner and gave his son for me on calvary and then offers salvation as a gift -best news ever. I accepted and as saved Perhaps it didnt go as planned by whoever but then again you folks got to ponder this question now as a result.... - hope and pray it profits you, lets face it none of us are getting out if here alive. Time is short and eternity is long.

I am in no way criticizing the pilot. I just do not think it was proper to do such a thing on the anniversary of the Hudson River landing and celebration.

      Bad form.

I don't believe in the bible, but those that do are welcome to say whatever they want. This was just an obnoxious attention grab.
