Is this another playground disputes that resulted in child arrest for throwing a slice of cucumber from a tuna sandwich at a classmate.

The boy was arguing with the other child during a break when he was overheard by a teaching assistant.
The headteacher was informed and called 999. But a PC who was dispatched to the school found no knife and the 'victim' unharmed.
The boy and his parents have been spoken to by officers but police have confirmed they are continuing their investigation.
Critics yesterday said Middleton Primary School in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, should have disciplined the pupil rather than wasting police time on the incident.
Nick Seaton, of the Campaign for Real Education, said: 'This was completely over the top - children say silly things all the time.
'He should have been disciplined but I would have thought the teachers could have handled this themselves with a few stern words and a detention.
'Really this is just wasting police time, especially when the child has no weapon.'
The argument happened during a lunchtime break last Wednesday at the mixed school, which has around 300 pupils aged between four and 11 and was rated 'good' at its last Ofsted inspection.
Headteacher Kathy McDermott yesterday defended her actions, saying she called officers to the school because she was concerned the pupils would develop a 'fixation with knives' and wanted the behaviour 'nipped in the bud'.
'I called the main police line as I could not find the number for our excellent police community support worker,' she added.
'I wanted her to come in and talk to the parents and children about their behaviour. The children were talking to each other in a very unkind manner.
'We want to make sure they understood the consequences of their conversations before it developed into a possible fixation with knives.'
She added: 'We have spoken to the parents of the children involved and they have been very positive. There will be no further action taken.'
However, she confirmed police had been invited to give a talk at the school about knives on Wednesday next week.
And Cambridgeshire Police refused to rule out taking further action against the boy.
A spokeswoman said: 'An officer attended an incident at Middleton Primary School after allegations that a threat was made by one child to another.
'An investigation is underway and we are in the process of speaking to the parents of the child involved.
'We are working closely with the school and will be giving a talk about the dangers of knives.'
Details emerged less than two weeks after the Government's red-tape tsar said police called to a schoolyard scuffle had to fill in 50 forms.
Jan Berry, the Home Office's senior adviser on police reform, warned the public did not want this level of bureaucracy and such incidents should be dealt with using common sense.
Previous playground disputes which have led to police involvement include a child in Kent who was arrested for throwing a slice of cucumber from a tuna sandwich at a classmate.

Exactly... Standing in the corner worked great. Nowadays no one wants to take any responsibility; teachers are no longer educators as a result children suffer.

it is a well known fact that children are not fully cognizant of their surroundings and actions untill the age of 8 or 9... Granted this child is on the cusp of such an age, but I would think these actions would warrant more of an investigation into why he feels this is an appropriate way of expressing his anger rather than criminal charges......

Can you imagine the anger if the kid later on buried a pencil in the other kids neck or stomach and the teacher who overheard the threat had said nothing? The entire school district would be in court being sued.

Wow, that is sad. I can think a many ways to deal with the situation that doesn't involve cops.
Side note; When my dad was a kid in LA, his high school use to have a boxing ring. If teachers or admin heard about two kids who had a problem (outside of school fist fight/tough guy contest) they would give them a choice. They could box, with headgear and 16 oz gloves, in 30 sec rounds until they were to tired to continue or one gave up or a (Dad never remembered one) rare knockout. IF the kids didn't want to box, they would call in the parents of both kids and have a long talk with the 2 kids 4 parents and a few admin. The school used common sense by not letting a 6'8" 300lb monster vs 5'4" 120 pound kid.

That's the way to teach our children how to respect each other, and there is a place for the fight as well as involving the children in the solution. It appears that the teachers are only interested in perfect little cute dolls in their classrooms and if they are not either give the kid some meds or call the cops.

The teachers are interested only in not getting sued or fired. Every time a parent complains about ANYTHING, the administration comes down hard on the teacher, and the pressure is always to suck up to the parents to avoid litigation. School administrators these days are taught only to placate the community, not educate children, and the administrators put heavy, perpetual pressure on teachers to create little Disneylands in their classrooms where nothing ever happens that could [possibly be construed negatively by anyone. So, while it appears that teachers are villains, they really are not. They are in a classic no-win situation, and many good teachers have gotten out of the profession. This leaves the field open for mediocre people who care less about teaching kids how to think and who care more about covering their own asses at all costs.

What if a kid threatened to stab a playmate with a cucumber? If the cucumber has salad dressing on it, would that constitute aggravated assault?

Right, if this was one of the 11 year olds, I would say wow, hold on, it is a bit serious, as the 11 year old would be more aware of their actions, but a seven year old who now possibley has a police record? What the hell is going on! Have some common sense like. When I was 7 I still believed a fat bald man came round once a year through my chimney to give me presents!

Children say many silly things. The kids where arguing and I easily can see one is telling another something like 'I'll kill you'. I would expect that teachers should have resolved this incident of 7 year olds. Instead children suffer as a result of adults’ fears thus creating fast track to jail theme. I see more harm from police involvement when it comes to 7 year old children.
Stop the panic! Adults please get a hold of yourselves! Teachers must get educated on resolutions of simple child altercations and practice these techniques!

"threatened to stab another pupil " hardly the equivalent of throwing a slice of cucumber
if some kid had threated to stab my child, I'd want action taken too. I have no issue with it.
