Modeling pageants are essentially different than professional basketball teams...as in that the ladies are basically holding an event where they are competing amongst themselves (not other teams of various colors)...They are not out to prove a point of superiority of skin color unlike this all white b-ball team.So thats why people aren't saying anything...

I'm sorry my brother but I have to say that I'm quite sick of segregation from all sides.

They do have a Miss White America... It's called the Miss America Pageant.

Due to cultural standards, the White people and black people have different standards of beauty. Only sometimes, those standards in beauty coincide with one another(see Vanessa Williams, Hallie Berry). More often than not, the different body builds of African American women(Wider hips, bigger butts, and thicker builds, although this is not always the case) and Caucasian American women(Bigger busts, smaller hips, slender builds, although this is not always the case) give different perceptions of beauty among the two cultures and races.

The Miss Black America Pageant is not about racial segregation but about highlighting the traits that makes African-American women attractive. While you may not agree with the segregation of the pageant, it highlights a cultural standard that would be ignored by the more mainstreamed Miss America Pageant.

However, basketball is not based on cultural standards; it is a game of skill and athleticism. If the pageants were not based on standards of beauty, which is subjective, and instead a competition of skill and athleticism, then there would be no need for segregation because skill would supersede judgment. However, this is not the case. Basketball is a game with an equal playing field for all players so there should be no need to segregate it by race other than forms of racism.

If this man started a league open to all players in direct competition to the NBA, then this wouldn't even be a news story outside of the sports section. However, the insinuation of underlying racism is enough to propel it to the front pages of several websites and news stations.

Lastly, I think that if a white woman meets the beauty standards of the Miss Black America competition, they should let her compete. It would be a good lesson in diversity for all parties involved, but I wouldn't be surprised if the results are less than favorable for the participant, much like many African-American women in the Miss America Pageant.

how about BET or The United Negro College Fund. Shoe on other foot, if whites had things like this riots would happen.

If I were black I would take it as a compliment. White people aren't as good at basketball as "people of color".
Skin color has nothing to do with athleticism...If you have a healthy body and a love for the game then you can be good.Its that simple.

it was invented by an american priest who worked for the YMCA. They needed a sport that could be played indoors and would be sure to involve every player. At first players were not allowed to dribble( the ball wasn't even round at that point) and had to pass the ball around before attempting to put it in an actual basket they had found.

That is a punch line from an old joke, "Gianticus". It is probably at least 35 years old. It is making fun of White players relative lack of jumping and rebounding skills. Now don't get pissed at me, I played basketball and was an excellent jumper, rebounder, and dunker at 6 ft. The whole story just reminded me of the old joke.

Oh, I'm familiar with the joke, "MoonLoon." I was just wondering what would be the need of a rule forbidding jumping when, as per the joke, no one would be capable of jumping in the first place.

I thought we all had skin that could be considered colored. I have personally never met a colorless person, except for my good friend, the invisible man - he's different though.

In general referring to someone as "colored" carried a rather negative connotation for quite some time. So reverting back to it is just a little insulting.

1. None of those sports are racially exclusive to my knowledge. They are just not drawing a major interest from minorities.

2. Water polo is an Olympic sport, which also means it's international.

Basketball is also an international sport, but other nations do not exclude other races or nationalities playing in their leagues. To offer a segregated league in a desegregated country such as America screams racism. In addition to that, the commentary coming from the person trying to begin the league stereotypes the entire population of African-American basketball players as if they all have behavioral and fundamental playing problems.

Even if his intention is not of a racial matter(which I think it is, since the players have to be "American-Born, full-blooded Caucasians" to play), the perception is racist. In this case perception is more important than intention.
