Jan 21, 2010 is the Official Date for the End of Democracy in America

Image

I don’t know if you guys are aware but yesterday’s Burrito Supreme Court Decision officially put a stamp on the end of democracy in the USA.

The Supreme Court has given big business, unions and nonprofits more power to spend freely in federal elections, a major turnaround that threatens a century of government efforts to regulate the power of corporations to bankroll American politics.

A 5-4 conservative majority crafted a narrow overhaul of federal campaign spending Thursday that could have an immediate effect on this year’s congressional midterm elections. The justices eased long-standing restrictions on “independent spending” by corporations and unions in political campaigns.

With corporations now able to spend UNLIMITED FUNDS on political campaigns, its’ just a short matter of time before your reps wear corporate logos. Next election will be a complete joke! Don’t bother campaigning or contributing money. It’s a waste of time. Corporations will out spend individuals and they will own the message and legislation!

Judge Roberts and his cohorting court jesters just put the nail in the coffin for every American, blue, red, purple…all average Americans have lost it all.

It started in 1986 with the JUST SAY NO campaigns allowing government to confiscate without due process, then to 911 and the Un-Patriot Act, and it has eroded to this…..the official opening of Pandora’s box and the official start of Government for the People, by the Corporations, for the Corporations!

You thought the DRED SCOTT CASE was the cruelest joke laid on the people, think again….it just got p’owned by this sick right wing court of lunatics.

NOTE the date, January 21, 2010.

It will go down in history as the official end to democracy in America!

You can now tell you kids when it was officially lost.

Revolt or shut up and live with it. Your comments please!

    • Good remarks, walkinstorms, I personally am running for city council in Lexington, KY just to bring up those issues as well as some local corruption that I happened to be effected by. We all need to turn of the TVs and start making some noise or we'll get past the point of no return.

    • definitely an infamous moment. This is absolutely the last nail in the coffin we needed for full on oppression and fascism to really take hold. Speaking of taking hold... grab on to whatever you can... it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

    • My sincere apologies to our founding fathers for letting the corporations take over till they finally bought out the supreme court and made them a bunch of losers. I know you warned us and warned us and warned us. Goodbye democracy, I know you were on your last legs for a really really long time, but now you are gone. We failed you miserably from all sides, and let ourselves be pawns in the corporate game of chess.

I hope we all remember what happened with Boudicca who led an uprising of the tribes against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLQiBAviUbA don't park your caravan too close to the battle front. Not to say to win is futile but always there is a better plan for how to get at what it may be you are after. I favored a dif link over first one I removed for the tactical display of this epic historic battle.

No body threw their spears away. A spear is for dealing with an enemy at a distance that nullifies the sword. The Romans weren't going to arm their enemy by throwing spears to them.
The beginning of "Gladiator" probably has the best representation.

02, you should check the India history of the 16th century if you enjoy ancient Britannia so much...unlike the Chinese they actually did make good use of gunpowder. Developing cannons, the first propelled missiles, engaging elephants in warfare as if they were tanks and inherited the awesome wisdom from their mongol ancestors of fashioning the most leathal bows to date. Puts a somewhat unsung glory to those people of the steppes that we are attempting at conquering in the middle-eastern Pakistani-Afghan region. I was shocked to find that cannons were bored through and bagan as a solid cast. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=BAFE14FCB76B97DA&playnext=1&play... I haven't watched this for some time as it *is* quite long. Kick yur feet up maybe take and doze even...it will probly still be on as you wake up. It will follow in sequence outside of "Current's" web-site.

I would think it of the legionary armies of Rome wouldn't even quaff at the expense of a few javelins. They are a spear of sorts, but made light for throwing. One spear they carried, the Pila, was definitely for wielding and wouldn't have been thrown. If the Britans under Boudicca used gorilla tactics like shown in "Gladiator" by the Huns; that's my memory if it serves correctly, they should have won that battle. The Romans were deftly outnumbered by a ratio 7 to 1 (at least) under Boudicca forces(also Boadicea - Gallic pronounced, I guess)

    • Well what in God's name do we do?
Who could we possibly write? Where could we petition? Who can we fight?
The hope I still clung onto through these years of crumbling government walls is now diminished.
Who's going to dedicate their life to fix this-to start fresh and demand fairness like the forefathers?
Are we really as screwed as I feel like we are?

    • Actually, monte, I hate television and especially the corporate celebrity news. We have lost the most important part of our government. The reporter. Yes, the media and investigative reporters were a crucial part of keeping our government clean. Over the years and with the loss of newspapers, we've lost that. On the internet anything you research or investigate that doesn't fit into the Nancy Grace world of reality, for some people, gets attacked and ignored. Free speech is just that, it has nothing to do with giving corporations free reign over Washington. We have been Bush-wacked first and then America was ready to be turned into an Obamanation. It's over, it's really over. This decision puts the corruption in Washington to a point where we can no longer be silent. I'll be out in the streets with We Are Change Ky knocking door to door with fliers asking people to join the true American, the people, as we demand and end to this illegal coup by Wall Street. If we have to, it's time to round up some people and put them under arrest, citizens arrest if we have to, and we can if we go out in numbers. When they realize that there are millions of us and only hundreds of them they will have lost their power over us. Watch Bug's life. Hopper explains the his minions the reality of their situation. It also shows clearly the mechanisms of how the few in our world control 6 billion of us.
(Also take note of how Stockholm Syndrom is induced!)

Agreed! That is what I have been saying for decades. The only way to get Money Influence out of politics and have people running that are actual public servants that work for the People instead of the corporations is to remove All contributions. Tax money should pay for elections and All runners should receive the same amount of money. No private money should be allowed and No political commercials or even commentary should be allowed. The politicians should be the only ones that are heard, not the TV pundits or the corporate commercial attack dogs. The only exception should be the international Internet where people can do research on the candidates and can give their opinions to people they know and on their private blogs. TV stations can be allowed to give free time to candidates but should be made to give the same amount of time to All candidates and in the Same time slot, not 6pm for their favorite and 3am for the others. Fair elections can only be possible when Money influence is removed!
And as for Lobbyists, they should be completely BANNED! If a politician takes lobby money or favors they should both go to prison.

This is the very reason why many of you are ignorant about current and past events and people, because you have been fed a bunch of bullshit.
Everyone should be able to come out and air pro's and con's on anyone running for public service. I kind of suspect that many of you who are against this ruling in favor of free speech have no problem when the main media uses it's broadcast to DESTROY OR PROP someone whether they deserve it or not. a la joe plumber, sarah palin, geo bush barak obama etc

    • the premise of this post is ridiculous, comparing free speech to the dredd scott case is for retards.
Being able to spend ones own money to express opinion of some crook running for office IS free speech -- earlier cases have ruled that money=speech, hence the court is right on with this one.

SCOTUS gave the ability to foreign interests to spend unlimited amounts of cash as free speech to influence our politics and policies.

    • Personally the end of Democracy was in December of 2000 when the Supreme Court "elected" George W. Bush despite the fact that he lost the popular vote and they essentially said then--your vote does not count and can't be counted--because you poor lonely American citizen are not a member of the electoral college and your brother was not governor of Florida and the majority of justices that voted were appointed by previous Republican Presidents with direct ties to your father.

But then of course the Supreme Court is really a late comer to this whole game anyway because insurance company lobbyists have already bought off the entire Congress and got them so bogged down trying to pass health care reform they completely lost their focus on the reality that nobody has a job and is most likely therefore collecting some type of medicaid benefits or saying oh well they already re-possessed my car and foreclosed on my house who cares if they collect on me for unpaid medical bills? or just saying screw it and letting whatever is wrong go unchecked and kill them--and thus health care reform is just pointless.

I say we should just say we should just do away with ALL campaign financing. If you want to get elected--go out and meet the people you want to represent--tell them your name--let them see what you stand for and put a face with a name--find some high school or Jr high school kids to stuff envelopes and help you send out email or post your issue position on their facebook page--it will give them something to do after school besides play world of warcraft or grand theft auto or beat up their fellow students after school. Each state should get a set amount of money to pay for the cost of holding the elections--and the media should donate one night a week to each candidate to present their point of view--hell they could all post a video a day on youtube for free and people could vote that way.

Because as I read the constitution it never said that corporations are people and that there is a requirement that every candidate for federal office be a millionaire and/or kiss the ass of big corporations to get elected.

Seriously after you get elected you get paid a salary--you have a job--you usually get a place to live for free or very cheap compared to everybody else in the DC area . So damn it live on their own income--or quit expecting everybody else to.

    • I don't understand. You guys seem to be under the impression that The Government and The People are exclusive of one another...The Government is made of The People. Don't like what's going on? Vote on it. Even if candidates are "bought" by corporations, we as the people can act AGAINST it.

Why are we acting as if the sky's falling? As if it's all out of own hands? We can still vote for the independent candidate, spread the message of corruption. Boycott banks, corporations, etc. But heaven forbid we actually sacrifice something. It's so much easier to bitch and moan.

America lost her Democracy in 2000, along with her spine.

Last year I read an article about how many times, he had ruled, the opposite of how he stated he would. He said he was not out to rule against long set precedences.

    • So, let's see, if the corporation now has citizen rights and assuming republicans can have their way, that means that businesses can't abort so any person who has a business idea has to follow through with it. Corporations can't merge with any other corporation in the same industry (it would threaten the institution of mergers and acquisitions).

What's next? Corporations are allowed to vote or send their own representatives to congress? Corporations have the right to practice religion of their choosing?

at the end of the day, this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, and I wonder if this would be a good time to get some new blood in the court.

Trouble is, that only works when you have a public who cares enough to do so. Instead we listen to sound bites and elect idiots because they say all the right things and look good doing it, paying more attention to slick advertising than the real facts of the situation. We like our MTV and our CNN, and we've been bought and sold in our food choices, our media choices, and now our politics

This decision is a sad cap to a long journey the American public has been willingly marching along with for decades.

They can directly influence candidates more now, because they can run as many ads for or against with billions and billions. Candidates will tow the corporate message because they won't have the funds to fight them.
This means corruption. Like the way the government works in Mexico and Guatamala? Well they do the bidding of the rich who fund them and not the voters.

And if they own the media, they pay themselves. And write it off.

Allegiance to a flag is allegiance to the fairy tale of an ideal, not to the reality of what the flag SUPPOSEDLY stands for. There is no statement in the Constitution about pledging allegiance to a flag. This concept is purely a tool of political power and control over the people. I think we should all ask our kids to refuse to pledge allegiance to the flags in our schools unless they are fully aware of exactly what it is they pledge allegiance to.

Everything that has happened since that USSC unconstitutional illegal decision is a result of Americans not standing up for the integrity of their votes when it mattered and allowing them to be corporatized as well. Could you overlook your own political hatred for Al Gore to admit that?

    • This is just legalizing a practice already in place.... Its time for America to wake up to the fact that the people we elect are passing laws based on the financial and political benefits to themselves..... Become aware and active in your politics!!!!

    • It almost seems futal to complain...What's a person to do...mass exodus?? Subordinate or leave...before it's too late to leave. Can anyone say "closing society"? Read Naomi Wolf's The End of America.

There are things you can do. Vote with your wallet. Move money out of the big banks. Better yet, don't use any bank if at all possible, and only sparingly if you must. Never direct deposit your paycheck. That gives banks the legal authority to share your bank account and any personal information including your employer with and "agency" that requests it. Use cash, not credit. Do anything and everything possible to thwart corporate profit. Banks only exist by the people's money. Especially the financial sector makes no tangible product. They just move money around on paper; our money. Don't let them have it. Go off the grid.

"But the consortium's study shows that Mr. Bush would have won even if the justices had not stepped in (and had further legal challenges not again changed the trajectory of the battle), answering one of the abiding mysteries of the Florida vote."
      nytimes http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/12/politics/recount/12VOTE.html

The supreme court did NOT decide, it simply done it's job and commanded the state court to stay out of the process. If any court is culpable of trying to influence the outcome, it was clearly the florida supreme court.
