The Supreme Court has given big business, unions and nonprofits more power to spend freely in federal elections, a major turnaround that threatens a century of government efforts to regulate the power of corporations to bankroll American politics.
A 5-4 conservative majority crafted a narrow overhaul of federal campaign spending Thursday that could have an immediate effect on this year’s congressional midterm elections. The justices eased long-standing restrictions on “independent spending” by corporations and unions in political campaigns.
With corporations now able to spend UNLIMITED FUNDS on political campaigns, its’ just a short matter of time before your reps wear corporate logos. Next election will be a complete joke! Don’t bother campaigning or contributing money. It’s a waste of time. Corporations will out spend individuals and they will own the message and legislation!
Judge Roberts and his cohorting court jesters just put the nail in the coffin for every American, blue, red, purple…all average Americans have lost it all.
It started in 1986 with the JUST SAY NO campaigns allowing government to confiscate without due process, then to 911 and the Un-Patriot Act, and it has eroded to this…..the official opening of Pandora’s box and the official start of Government for the People, by the Corporations, for the Corporations!
You thought the DRED SCOTT CASE was the cruelest joke laid on the people, think again….it just got p’owned by this sick right wing court of lunatics.
NOTE the date, January 21, 2010.
It will go down in history as the official end to democracy in America!
You can now tell you kids when it was officially lost.
Revolt or shut up and live with it. Your comments please!

This ruling is the conclusion of years and years of trails by corporate lawyers whittling away laws that strictly regulated them since the inception of "incorporation." This move is a last straw in terms of giving way to fully allow corporate controlled elections. Of course, this has largely been the case, but now it is totally legal and will reach new levels propaganda and misguided attack ads (on both sides). This is not a partisan issue, this is human rights issue.
On January 21, 2010, with its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons, entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government. Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions. The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the people rule.
We are a group that moves to Amend.
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to:
* Firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
* Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our votes and participation count.
* Protect local communities, their economies, and democracies against illegitimate "preemption" actions by global, national, and state governments. - 2 years ago

Corporations, government and religion are the three headed beast. Think about it. Institutions that are in collusion with one another as living organisms of individual people, each pursuing their own agendas and using the corporate contribution gravy train to get elected and re-elected. Add to that the revolving door between government and corporate America and you have an infiltration on your hands. This is an infiltration of wealth and power seeking individuals programmed with Ayn Rand messages, fortified by a solid faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and party faithful till death.

Courage: You are a complete unmitigated moron. Do you have ANY concept of what just happened??? This isn't a conservative, independent or democratic issue, this will affect EVERYONE. The conservative court just opened the floodgates for corporations and unions to spend as much money as they want to elect the candidates THEY want. If you can't grasp the implications of that, consider this. This ruling also opens the doors wide to FOREIGN INFLUENCE IN US CAMPAIGNS. For example two congressmen are up for reelection, Candidate A favors developing alternate sources of energy, while Candidate B wants oil as the primary source of energy. Exxon Mobil sees possibilities for profit in alternative energy and begins shifting a small amount of its resources into that area and begins limited discussions with Candidate A. Saudi Arabia gets wind of this and tells Exxon that if they want to continue selling Saudi Arabian oil, they will cease discussions with Candidate A and start spending millions to ensure Candidate B gets elected. Get it? Whats worse is that many foreign businesses hold majority shares in US companies.
So while all the birthers and teabaggers were running around, speaking in tongues, yelling that Obama wants to raise taxes, Obama wants to take our guns, Obama wasn't born in America, the conservative court was busy shoving a knife into Americas back that in essence, shreds the United States Constitution and dissolves a 223 year old sacred pact between US citizens and the government that USED to represent them.
Mussolini one said that "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." This ruling makes that merger legal and clears the path for the development of a fascist state.
Dr. Lawrence Britt wrote an article entitled “The 14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism.
The article can be found here http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4113.htmThe list below details some of those characteristics:
The suppression of organized labor (organized labor is the bane of corporations and the only real check on corporate power other than government or the legal system);
Supremacy of the military (it is necessary to produce and protect corporate profits abroad and threats from abroad);
Cronyism and governmental corruption (it is very beneficial to have ex-corporate employees run the agencies or make the laws that are supposed to regulate or check corporations);
Fraudulent elections (especially those where corporations run the machinery of elections and count the votes or where judges decide their outcomes);
Nationalism (disdain for other countries that might promote individual rights);
Obsession with national security (anti-corporatists are a security risk to the corporate status quo);
Control of the media (propaganda works);
Obsession with crime and punishment ; and
Disdain for intellectuals and the arts
Any of this sound familiar? Now it will become legal.

The messages and news you've been listening to - are puppet-strings. Figure out who's pulling the strings. It isn't right vs left. Look up. Look behind the curtain.

Courage you are right on the mark with whats goin on here, especially the part about using class envy as a means to seize power. This tactic is nothing new, it was used by all the classic dictators to get the people to go along with their quests for totalitarianism.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112642564
I wrote the following in September '09 and it speaks directly to this case...
"I am a supporter of free speech and I cringe at the thought of anyone or anything infringing on that fundamental right. But should this right apply to corporations? That is the question posed in this article by NPR. Scott Nelson, who represents McCain and Feingold says, 'There's no prohibition on running any kind of political advertising. It's just a question of how it's funded.' The law currently prohibits 'the broadcast of independent political advertisements about candidates within 30 days of an election if the ads were financed by corporate or union funds.' This prohibition is at risk of being reversed.
"Personally, I feel that any citizen should be able to express whatever they want, or pay for whatever advertising they want. This applies to the blue-collar worker as well as the CEO. However, a corporation or union is not a citizen and while decisions on what to say or what advertising to fund lay in the hands of a few people at the top of the company ladder, it may not reflect the views of all employees or members.
"As citizens, we are all entitled to our voice, our vote and many other opportunities to influence our elected officials and the path of our country. But lets face it, advertising is influence and if the law is reversed, if corporations are given unbridled access to America's advertising scene, they will drown out the voice of the ordinary citizen. Exxon and Pfizer may as well have their own seats on the Senate floor and we can say good-by to any sort of energy or health care reform. (At least any reform that doesn't benefit their bottom line.)
"Corporations are in the business of making money and they will do what they can to accomplish this. The courts should be in the business of safeguarding people's rights. Our voice and our vote won't be taken away if the court reverses this restriction of corporate and union funding, but they certainly won't mean as much..."
So, speaking of the Supreme Court Decision on 1/21/10, when Theodore Olson of Citizens United (a pretty sounding name for the group who fought on behalf of big corporations in this case,) said, 'The Supreme Court's decision today is a victory for the First Amendment and the right of all Americans to participate in the political process,' he either lied or doesn't know that a corporation's political stance on an issue (which determines where it directs its campaign contributions) doesn't necessarily represent the views of its employees, but of its Board of Directors.
Yet again, the rich have grabbed more power, and the conservative machine is branding it as a victory for 'the people.' Unfortunately, many of 'the people' will probably believe it.
