What's your State of the Union wishlist?

Tonight at 8pm ET will be Obama's very first State of the Union. There's a lot of conjecture about what he could say. There have been reports that he'll announce a non-military spending freeze. Or that he's going to throw a fistful of money at high speed rail. Heck maybe he'll take up Schwarzenegger on his plan to outsource prisoners to Mexico.
What are you hoping to hear from Obama today? Tough new banking regulations? A draw-down of troops overseas? Tell us your State of the Union wishlist.

Well, I've been watching the State of the Union address live on YouTube for the past half-hour; it's offering laudable promises, but we had already heard most of these promises over a year ago—nothing remarkably new.
The speech sounds too much like a cheap buy-off of the middle class, conservatives, and jingoists in general. This certainly wouldn't leave a good impression on anyone beyond America's shores.
However, I'm glad that this address is more casual and not as formal; I'd imagine this was done to appeal to conservatives who can't stomach "elitism".

WOO! Here we go:
-Healthcare: Why oh Why has the public option died? We need a realistic expectation and description of what this healthcare bill now looks like and what it will do for us. Outside of that big legislation however, there is a lot of things that could be done to help the state of health care in America. Tackle the reality of the food industry and food education in the country! Develop state and local programs to help raise awareness of healthy eating and put money into urban gardening as well as other food growing programs (I've always thought many schools could be providing themselves with fresh food as well as classes in gardening and sustainability and real life experience!) Provide incentives, or stress the existing incentives for companies to help their employees be more aware of their health and develop creative ways to raise their overall health. Set some standards for pubic school's sexual education; abstinence only education is dangerous and ineffective, and greater education about STDs, protection and birth control is important! People have to feel a real responsibility for their own health, but not because they are begrudged to do so, because they feel empowered and informed!
-Energy: A lot of people don't want to hear this, but I don't give a damn! The government MUST REGULATE the industries that are dragging us down. If you watched Who Killed The Electric Car you know that under zero-emissions mandates, GM was able to make fully electric, environmentally friendly cars- and that was over 10 years ago. When the mandate was overturned, the cars disappeared. USE THE GOVERNMENT'S POWER FOR OUR BETTERMENT. Capitalism doesn't mean that a few corporations get to sue the pants off whom ever gets in their way- DEMAND a higher quality of products and services! This is especially important since the government bailed out the auto industry big time, to the chagrin of many Americans. We can do what politicians have said every damn year - "Lessen our reliance on foreign oil" - we have the technology, we need a strong willed government system to stand up and say Let's Fucking Do It! Provide incentives to emerging industries in Green Energy, incentives to corporations and companies to switch to those green energies, incentives to the average joe too! Most importantly, we have to have an honest conversation in America about our consumption levels and come to an understanding of why it's important that we change our lifestyles.
-War: This is a wishlist, right? While I don't understand all of the ins and outs of our military missions, I think the best thing to do is lead by example. Pull out of all non-peaceful missions, declare the disarmament of our nuclear weapons (if not all, at least the majority- something tells me we'll always have a few waiting around just in case and the powers that be wouldn't have it any other way) and announce the United State's PEACEFUL intentions as per our PEACE prize winning President. Also, WTF happened to Osama bin Laden? Either he's the worst S.O.B in the world, he's already dead, it was all a sham or we've simply lost interest, and I don't like any of those options. Why is it so many years later we've heard practically nothing about the person whom the past administration, as well as the current one, blame for the worst terrorist attack we've seen on US soil? Address it!
Also: Legalize marijuana and gay marriage on a federal level, end don't ask don't tell, ask states that still discriminate against "non-believers" to reassess their constitutions, rethink our education and prison systems and uh ... um ... I think that's it for now. I'll probably think of a million more things but ya know, you gotta start somewhere...

I want the president to redefine the word "crisis" to the American people. "We have an energy CRISIS. Start tomorrow by buying efficient light bulbs, putting cords on power strips, recycling EVERYTHING, stop buying/producing plastic, start composting. We have a pollution CRISIS. Start working right away on restructuring communities and the distribution of goods so that bicycles and EFFICIENT, CLEAN transportation takes over within a YEAR. We have a healthcare CRISIS, people are spending years and years of heartache struggling to pay for a quality of life that others waste of a daily basis...WAKE UP AMERICA, WERE IN A SINKING SHIP AND I HAVE TO TEACH YOU ALL TO SWIM etc."

1) End corporate wealthfare
2) Create a community led jobs program
3) Either Lower medicare to 55 or put the public option back into health care
4) End these Wars (Imperalism is tyranny and just down right immoral)
5) Split up the media monopolies, actually much of the economy has become monolithic, so reform anti--trust laws
6) end 'don't ask don't tell, but also push for marriage equality at a federal level
7) Food, Shelter and the Interenet, and public transporations are human rights and therefore should be in the constitution.
8) Fix are trade policies they are broken, wages have stagnated and that isn't how the economy works
9) End corporate personhood
10)raise the income tax on that upper upper class who just has so much money to where it was in the 70s, 60, or 50s all sound great.
11) Kick out summers, geithner and berneke, bring in krugman, stiglitz, warren, and there is a guy in missouri who is on top of his economic game.
12) Oh there no doubt more problems that we face not only in this country but the world and we could go on all night but theres just a few.
13) Something is wrong with our food system, we got fat but starving people. This world shouldn't have hungry people. fix this!
14)Where is the public transportation? I want trollys, trains, light rain and subways, buses, bike paths and more single or duo seat cars that run off green energy.
15) Move our economy to a green/educated and healthy based system that bring opportunities to all walks of life.

I would like to hear a call for 'accountability'. Too many things are judged in 'the court of public opinion', where what one says does not require truth, then everyone just 'moves along'. The 'say anything', cause it doesn't matter, has to stop. Somewhere, somehow truth and honesty must find it's way back to America.
One leads by example. I 'hope' President Obama leads using 'truth and honesty' as his guide. Truth and honesty requires accountability. Those who lie and deceive, should not be allowed to do it 'in plain sight' with no accountability. 'Moving along' as though truth and honesty don't matter, will eventually lead ordinary Americans to believe, truth and honesty really don't matter.

When George W. was President, the 'talking heads' featured Republicans, to spin. Now that Barack Obama is President, the 'talking heads' are still featuring Republicans to spin their opinions about President Obama. I'm sick of 'Republicans' being featured by MSM regardless of who is President.
When Bill Clinton was President, the 'talking heads' cared about sex. When George W. was President, the 'talking heads' ignored fixed facts, forged documents used in the lead up to war. Something is wrong with journalism in Ameica. Too few, own too much of American media.

America, land of the free, home of the brave. Yes. But there is more to it than that.
It'd be nice if the State of the Union could be a reality check for a lot of people. There is so much complaining. For what? Who knows... but here is my list of topics and statements I'd like to see addressed - - - -
1. Reality Check - If you live in America, you're already at the top on the luxury living list. We've got the most stuff, the best stuff, and we waste the stuff, things people in poorer countries couldn't dream of having. Our country has fully provided the services we need to survive and live comfortably... some people are poor, some depressed, some trying to find a reason to live. Suffering is universal, but put your life in perspective. I don't know anybody's life situation right now, but I'd be willing to bet that it'd be worse if you lived in a different country. Much worse. Countries with no running water, no electricity, no food shelters, no homeless shelters, no hospitals, no restaurants, no big lots, no iPods iPads iMacs or iBooks. Look at Us. This country has so much. I'm tired of multi-millionaires like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck slamming our country as such a bad place. The verbal diarrhea needs to stop. The people in our country cause the issues, and yes, most of our government seems to be corrupt in some way, and yes, our food system is run by huge corporations that don't care about the health of it, and yes, lobbyists are running the laws, but these are issues we can work together to fix. Not fight. Not complain. Fix, and be thankful it's no worse.
2. Climate change - It's happening, it's going to effect everything, and it can be stopped. I'd like to hear the president address what we're going to do, as a country, about Renewable resources. The whole National Electric Grid needs to be re-made so that everything runs on power that will never go away and never hurt the environment or pollute the Earth. Air, Solar, Water, Geothermal, all those things could power our nation once we make the leaps and bounds to cancel out fossil fuels. Our whole power grid could be made off of this... Think how awesome that could be. Then there would be no regrets about using to much power, and other underdeveloped countries could use this technology to start an electric grid across their nations. So, I'd like to hear him say that "We will be the front-runners for a nation run on no oil, no coal, just the power of our planet"... yeah... right..........
3. He's gotta talk about heath-care, he can't make everyone happy, but maybe he'll come really close.
4. The War in the Middle East, I'm all for helping other countries, but I'm also completely anti-war, so, we gotta get these people trained to fight back and establish a running government so we can get outta there.
America is good, but of course there are issues. We should share some of this wealth we have, not be so greedy, not pay workers in other countries dirt wages to make products to ship here, focus more on education... etc...
Working together on issues we could fix will just bring us closer as a nation in the long run. Realize that, and help us out Obama.5. OH, almost forgot, I'd like everyone who runs at the mouth about legalizing cannabis to just Shut up please. If all you wanted to do was dope out all day, you'd do it illegally, so do the shit illegally or DON"T DO THE SHIT. The government shouldn't have such strict laws against it, I know , those don't solve anything. But people, come on, have some self control.

Shut up? Why should I shut up? You don’t understand the topic? You have too small a mind to comprehend facts? It only takes a ‘small mind’ to think people are only talking about smoking it for recreation. Hemp is an issue, whether you like it or not.
Self control? Why would my silence, be using self-control? Not speaking up about something one feels ‘is’ sooo wrong would not be self control, it would be controlled, by under-educated individuals, who are not capable of having an educated discussion about facts. Why do you want to silence the voices of those whom you disagree?
It was ‘my’ wish list. I would not want to silence your wishes. Why silence mine? I bring facts to the discussion. You’re the one who wants control. Telling people to shut up, shows a lack of ‘self control’.

I was just tired of the whining druggies... but if there is a real problem here that you're fighting for, what is it? You say that you're bringing facts, what are they? I've got to admit that I've had no experience with drugs, I've learned what I know from what I've been taught. Drugs = Bad. I get that they relieve stress, you get euphoric, blah blah blah, but I guess I haven't heard the argument from people who want this stuff. I've just seen all the complaints about how the government bans it. SO, ok, I don't understand the topic, give me some facts, enlighten me on the drug issue, I'm not closed minded, just ill informed I suppose...

I'm just 'one lonely voice'. I will share the voices of others who share my opinion and express their views, so much better than I.
"Two of my favorite things are sitting on my front porch smoking a pipe of sweet hemp, and playing my Hohner harmonica." - Abraham Lincoln (from a letter written by Lincoln during his presidency to the head of the Hohner Harmonica Company in Germany)
"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country."
- Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President"Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere."
- George Washington, U.S. President"We shall, by and by, want a world of hemp more for our own consumption."
- John Adams, U.S. President"Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marihuana in private for personal use... Therefore, I support legislation amending Federal law to eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marihuana." - Jimmy Carter, U.S. President
"I inhaled frequently. That was the point." - Barack Obama, U.S. President
"The war on drugs has been an utter failure. We need to rethink and decriminalize our nation's marijuana laws." -Barack Obama, January 2004
"The illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship so desperately needed in this increasingly mad and dangerous world." - Carl Sagan, renown scientist, astronomer, astrochemist, author and TV host
"Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?" - Henry Ford, whose first Model-T was constructed from hemp fibers and built to run on hemp gasoline
"Prohibition... goes beyond the bound of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded" -Abraham Lincoln
"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this." - Albert Einstein quote on Hemp
"That is not a drug. It's a leaf." - Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California
Let's end with a quote from one of the most clueless U.S. Presidents, who evidently thought of himself as an authority on cannabis:
"I now have absolute proof that smoking even one marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being on Bikini Island during an H-bomb blast" - Ronald Reagan
Perhaps with all the evidence coming out that marijuana may help prevent Alzheimer's, it is possible that Reagan's affliction could have been halted or prevented by the herb he so vilified. The powers that maintain the illogical status quo for marijuana's illegality are feeling a seismic shift beneath their skewed logic and paranoid rhetoric. When scientific research is unambiguously and evenly applied to marijuana, the current laws and prohibition cannot and will not stand.

Be a real leader not an appeaser. *End this war.*
Don't tell us you are going to cut this budget for everything EXCEPT war.
Tell us you are going to stop mountaintop removal and not approve anymore petitions to pollute our waterways and blow up our mountains.
Stand up to Monsanto and tell them they will no longer get away with bribery, lies, and false PR in working to take over our food supply.
And in doing just those two things you are standing up for REAL healthcare reform in this country.
And could we please stop with every one of these addresses being about the ego of the man delivering it, and the gallery, and which side claps the loudest, or stands, or sits, and the booing, and the using it for polls. This should be an accurate depiction of the real state of this union (which of course it never really is) not another chance for the politicos to strut.
