US economy races ahead

The US economy grew at a faster-than-expected 5.7% annualised rate in the fourth quarter, the strongest figure in more than six years, as businesses reduced inventories less aggressively than before.
Growth in the October to December period was much faster than the third quarter's 2.2% rate and was boosted by a sharp slowdown in the pace that businesses ran down stock levels, a factor that could mask the strength of the economic recovery from the longest and deepest downturn since the Great Depression.
But even stripping out inventories, the economy expanded at an annual rate of 2.2%, accelerating from the 1.5% increase in the third quarter, reflecting relatively strong performance from other segments of the economy.

Dependence on Money is a false pinata. Independence from Money allows the human spirit to grow wings and fly to greater heights than Money could ever lift us. A Weak species needs Money as a crutch. It's like wearing diapers all your life.
Yes, yes, God yes, I know there's plenty other engines around besides mine, but mine eliminates Money to the greatest extent of all the others. Yes, methane is powerful. Whenever there's a pipe rupture or a rail tanker crashed we know how powerful methane is.
On the other hands, since neither water nor air explodes except when specially brought into my engine cylinders, there's no such problems. The only place any explosion is happening is where an explosion is needed to happen => inside the engine.
So yeah, by all means use the methane, have the explosions and stay using Money like the baby species you are. Just remember this, that not paying for fuel makes the little change in your pockets go a whole lot farther. Pay off your homes instead of going through the shame of losing it in front of your children.
Yeah, a great decision that, stay on Money, and Methane.

If you had lived in Michigan like I have since 2003 and seen thousands of people leave the state you would be saying the US economy races to ahead to Canada and Florida.

I can't look at your videos because I only have dial-up because I have not had a full-time job since George Bush Jr got elected and messed up everything. I used to secretly laugh at people here in Michigan who were talking about moving to Canada because they were fed up with this country. Now after living in Michigan since 2003 I see why they were talking like that. I can connect to the net for free with the modem to a phone line, but this computer is very slow.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR OUR ECONOMY TO RACE FOWARD..Do to the monetary system that we use. Our nation is built on DEBT, and if were in debt it is obviously with the banks. So if we (being our nation) owe the banks, who do you think will have the last say in a bill, that might profit the people(us...me and you), but hurt the banks? I would think the ban wouldnt want that to happen. Anyway watch a doc. called Zeitgeist, as well as my videos

I feel the same today as I did yesterday. I did not plan to retire this early. I got caught up in the Michigan depression in 2004 and have never been able to get a full-time job since I left Indiana in 2003. The recession has never ended for me. Politicians still are making money and have their jobs. The recession has ended if you have a job, but it never ended for your neighbor, friend and kin folk who are still unemployed. I gave up trying after 2007. I have got hundreds of resumes in cyber space. I have been registered on dozens of job seeker network sites. I am still in a recession as are the millions who have joined me since 2004.

You STILL think Obama's NOT doing some good??? Yeah sure things aren't all perfect now,but better is better! Sure beats Bush driving the US economy about eight TRILLION dollars into debt!!! Argue about this at your own free will!!! If you're too blind to see the truth,I am not going to tell you what it is! I've wasted too much of my time trying! There are too many dumb people in the world for me to explain the truth on issues like this to everyone!

I'm sure the author of this post was one of the people who said that there was no housing bubble, and that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy were sound, back in 2007.

It was not my intent to trash the current administration. I was simply putting the situation into laymens terms because it seemed there is a bit of confusion on the part of those posting. I don't expect an overnight recovery but we are not out of the woods yet. Also i agree with you that people in this country know nothing of sacrifice for country!

I like how when good news finally comes out everyone thinks of something else to cry foul on.
Theres a reason history is important, but obviously few here think so. In the past name me an instance when the economy went from horrible to amazing in a year....
The Great Depression took a World War and an entire term to recover from. Back then I guess people were more patient and more concerned about the country than their party.
Yes thats right, the Republicans just want control (so do the Democrats), its simple political process. Realism. When one party gains, the others lose, no one wants to lose. Its always existed, except in the past people cared about their country so much that once and a while they thought more about it than their party's power.

It seems as though many people posting here do not understand how the GDP is calculated. Basically it is the sum of consumption, investment, and government spending, plus or minus net exports. The real reason for the unusually high growth this year, as the article states, is the increase in inventories (Investment) relative to previous levels. Another factor is obviously the increased government spending (20% higher than last year). So basically what they are saying is that before businesses were running on minimal inventories and now, during the last quarter of the 2009, businesses finally increased the inventory levels. This figure has nothing to do with actual consumption, the force that actually drives global economies. In short, this has nothing to do with Obama, and actually the purchase of additional inventories is most likely an accounting trick used to minimize taxes that businesses must pay.

Businesses run by Democrats squeeze employees all year long then pump up the jam 4th Quarter to make Obama look good. It's a Republican trick. It's a shell game and they both do it. People are still losing homes & jobs and kids graduating so they can move back home. But thank God plenty of immigrants still fight and claw to get over the borders so we must all be really stupid and unappreciative of our Bounty.

For all we know, the numbers are fake... and even further... when you're low, it's easy to see the increase.. AND we just had the holidays and "black friday" so this could mean nothing. OF COURSE growth in the 4th quarter was better than the 3rd! That's the holidays! ... and EVERY company in the US works towards making more money in that quarter to help fiscal year numbers... if you ask me... this is bullshit.
Our economy will never get better. It's going to ride a downward roller coaster into further debt until we look like a 3rd world country. Which is apt, since we have destroyed so many 3rd worlds in order to "get here". Our country is like a TRILLION DOLLARS IN THE HOLE. We don't HAVE ANY MONEY... and Citibank is STILL handing out ridiculous bonuses! The system is busted and NEEDS to be rebuilt.
This is not progress, people... it's the convulsions of a dying system... It's going to spike lower and lower until we're killing each other for water.

1% of the U.S. population own more wealth than the other 95% combined. So this news is meaningless to 95% of the American people. Good news though for AIG, CitiBank and Bank of America.
