Did Israel assassinate a member of Hamas in Dubai?

Authorities in Dubai confirmed al-Mabhouh was found dead in a hotel room a day after entering the emirate. Dubai's government said in a statement that initial investigations show the crime was likely committed by a "professional criminal gang," and that the suspects left the country before the body was discovered.
His compatriots blame Israeli assassins. Israel has not yet responded to the accusation.

Update: Now the Dubai police appear to be accusing Hamas itself of being behind the assassination:
Dubai’s chief of police, Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, on Sunday called on Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar to launch an 'internal investigation' into the operation.
Tamim claims that an associate of al-Mabhouh, a high-ranking military leader, leaked information about the Hamas leader’s visit to Dubai and went as far as to refer to the associate as 'the real murderer.' - 2 years ago

Instead of wasting time questioning Israel as to why they killed a mass murdering terrorist...why are people not asking the bigger questions...such as why did Dubai allow a known terrorist into their country???Also since when did anyone care if a terrorist was killed, who ever killed this low life did the whole world a favour. Another thing, I hear people whining because fake travel documents were used by the assassins, funny thing is the terrorist also used fake travel documents so it's ok for the terrorist but not for the just people who eliminate a terrorist.

Some comments here amount to incitement to racial hatred.
According to reports, Mabhouh oversaw the smuggling of Iranian long-range rockets into Gaza, enabling Hamas to threaten the densely populated Gush Dan region, home to more than three million Israelis and the scene of the country’s financial hub. The condemnation of the eradication of someone who was planning to murder untold numbers of innocents (Mabhouh was apparently en route to procure Iranian missiles capable of hitting Tel Aviv from Gaza) is the embodiment of hypocrisy. If, apart from eradicating a terrorist before he could further assist mass murder, the operation was intended to give a message to bad guys everywhere that they will be successfully hunted down, it was a striking success for whoever carried it out – so much so that if Israel was not behind this, it would undoubtedly want its enemies to think that it was.
The picture above is of one of Mabhouh's victims, a child murdered by a Hamas missile in Sderot.
This is clearly a case where the end justifies the means and any time Mossad wants to use my passport to carry out another one, be my guest. - 2 years ago

Firstly, you're right we Jews/Zionists are not the really victims, but neither are the Arabs. We're the winners, they're the losers. But you're attitude is exactly wrong because the Arabs, for the past hundred years of this conflict have always been the aggressors. Its a total farce that we are human rights or war criminals. Israel may have room for improvement on its human rights record, but there is no other country in the world facing comparable threats that does more to protect human rights. You're wrong that America will ever cease to support Israel. Americans generally get it, we don't excuse suicide bombings and indiscriminate rocket attacks because a group of people are desperate or frustrated or whatever. You're also wrong that we, Israel owes the Palestinians any land. Most of what is now the State of Israel has always been populated predominantly by Jews or was wilderness. We only expelled any Palestinians when we were under attack by NINE Arab Armies! The Palestinians have to come to grips with the fact that they have lost, repeatedly, and that the Jewish State is permanent. If they were serious about achieving peace and improving their lives, they would have accepted the offer of statehood that Ehud Barak offered them at Camp David in 1999. There has never been any other national liberation movement in history that has rejected an offer of statehood for any reason. This proves that their leadership is more concerned with destroying the Jewish State than creating a Palestinian state.

What's equally disturbing as that diction 'your kind' is the way this kathymm uses the term 'mossad zionist' as a term of derision. Mossad Zionist isn't a real word anyway, its like calling somebody an 'MI6-British Patriot'. Zionism is the national liberation, and self empowerment movement of the Jewish people. To be anti-zionist, is to be indisputably, a bigot. To drive my point home, it was Mossad that captured countless Nazi war criminals including Adolf Eichman. Self-righteous Jewish empowerment is what Mossad and Zionism are all about.

What's really unfortunate is how the cult of Israel-bashing takes away attention from worthier causes. These people are crying wolf. It's to bad they don't have as much sympathy for the people of Darfur, or the Kurds, or the Uighurs as they have for the Palestinians. Each of those groups has a much stronger case for their statehood and have been subjected to far greater human rights violations.

It really doesn't matter who killed this Islamonazi animal. He's dead....that's what counts and it's something to celebrate. His killers should be hailed as heroes. But of course, those that hate life turn their venomous attention on the brave warriors defending freedom and innocent women and children. I imagine these cowardly pricks snapping their jaws at Mossad enjoy action movies in their spare time watching various baddies getting blown away by Bond and other agents but in real life condemn just and righteous action, hiding behind a craven peacenik veneer of hypocrisy and double standards.

That is really lame Kathy.
You have no concept of relativity, justice, international events, or human rights in my perception of your commentary.
Your opinion of the Mossad and how it is seen is not prevalent.
And you just put your foot in your mouth big time.
The Mossad is recognised as one of the number one intelligence agencies in the world with direct ties to the CIA AND INTERPOL. They have participated in the capture of hundreds of thousands of criminals.
Former agents are now the FOREMOST security for getting ships through Somalia and rescuing kidnapees.
And no agent has ever done time for killing a civilian mudering terrorist.
You need to watch Munich, unlike Palestinians, Israelis often work overtime to avoid killing kids.
Mossad does what others are afraid to do. They take out those they know are guilty and that cannot be arrested because they are protected by 22 Islamic countries which NEVER adhere to international law.
This man was a war criminal, there is no doubt.
He was responsible for smuggling arms that killed Muslims!

really kathy? Is that all the IDF is notorious for? And can you say that Islamic countries have not done the same? 3 million dead in Sudan while the Palestinian population increases by 3 million since Israels inception?
A higher standard of living in Gaza than Egypt? Just ask Unicef!
How about building colleges in Palestine?
Educating doctors?
Developing the #1 export of organic goods in Europe?
Developing drip irrigiation?
Making the Palestinians the #1 per capita recipients of international aid?
Your statements are biased and they smack of racism.
Yes, Israel is flawed.
But for one thing, ALL of the arrestees so far are PALESTINIAN!
For another, Hamas assasinated over 600 Fatah members in DIRECT violation of international law and Fatah had plenty of motive.
You have a serious problem and need to do a lot more research on the subject before you step onto this complicated playing field.

Aside from the nasty black goo this country has been forced to run on, name ONE modern contribution to human rights or justice given to us by the Islamic community today?
Name one Islamic country where women have equal rights as an absolute?
Name one Islamic country where gays do not have to live in fear?
Name one Islamic country that is at the forefront of Green tech?
Name one Islamic country that enforces religious freedom and doesn't jail or discriminate against Jews or Christians? In a sea of 22 countries (with billions of square miles) that persecute and discriminate against africans, women and homosexuals, you point out one 50 mile wide 300 mile long stretch smaller than Jersey that fights back and call it a wholesale destroyer of the poor?
You obviously have no clue about world events, have never even looked at positive contributions or even compared Israel to it's neighbors human rights records at all.
Who started slavery?
Who kills more blacks today than drought?

Oh, I'm sorry, I did not realize the invasion of Afghanistan was prior to 9/11. The way it works is very simple; The Muslim world hates American culture and they hate it even more for coming to their country. And granted, American culture sucks. But if there was not a thirst for American culture within their countries, it would never enter to begin with. So you have a vast fringe Muslim group that is upset with that and attacking the United States when they should be fighting themselves. Manifest Destiny and "protecting" the Western Hemisphere in the 19th century from Europeans was unwanted meddling, agreed. But today is not that sort, and as a Historian I can assure you, my friend, that those are distinctly different situations. But thanks for the comment.
