No Marijuana Question During Online Interview With Obama - Censorship?

An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that President Obama chose to ignore marijuana reform questions. The questions posed to him were selected by YouTube, which decided not to present the highest ranked questions to the president. This post has been changed to correct that inaccuracy.

YouTube’s CitizenTube forum concluded today with questions about ending marijuana prohibition receiving the most votes, by far. Yet, the questions about marijuana prohibition were not presented to the president this afternoon.

Last year, when marijuana reform questions topped the “Open For Questions” forum operated by the White House, the president did answer them — albeit without serious consideration to the issue. It’s unfortunate that YouTube would shelter the president from something that’s obviously on a lot of people’s minds.

Ending marijuana prohibition is not a fringe issue. Not anymore. The polls are showing rapid increases in support for reform nationwide (46% of Americans think small amounts of marijuana should be legal, according to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll), and at least three states are considering legislation or ballot initiatives to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol in the coming years. This issue will be addressed in a serious way, and it’s regrettable that YouTube would shy away from it.

"Although the number one question asked by youtubers was "what will obama do to legalize marijuana" Citizentube figured it was inappropriate and censored it out. We do not have a voice, Our voice is what other entities think is appropriate. I do not use marijuana, but that does not mean I would censor people's question, just because I feel it is inappropriate. A question is a question. I have also noticed that the citizentube channel has set their email options to "FRIENDS ONLY" is this to prevent the mass of people from complaining about this?"

    • Citizentube is YouTube is Google. Enough names. Google is evil. They censored many American voices by not presenting what was presented to them.

    • The last time President Obama had an online interview, it was announced that Senator Webb was forming a commission to look into prison population in America. He said, nothing was off the table. I had hoped, someone else was 'running with the ball', to make 'change' happen.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Senator Webb's Commission comes up with. Or, did he sell his soul to the 'private prison industry' and decide to walk away from the commission and review of our prison system?

from another article on the censorship:

"Yes, questions about marijuana were the most popular in the CitizenTube voting Monday afternoon.

But YouTube, in a gutless move, decided at the last minute not to present the highest ranked questions to the President.

Initial reports that the President had ignored the marijuana questions were inaccurate; YouTube took pot, the top vote getter, out of the running.

President Obama never even got an opportunity to answer the most popular question of all."

    • With President Obama's need to grow the economy, one would think he would at least consider hemp as a way to grow industry in America. New products, new market, more jobs. It's really a win, win, when you get past the 'spin'! Spinning only makes people dizzy. It doesn't help the overall conversation we should be having, to 'really make change' in America.

    • Well, maybe it's because MOST peoples lives/worries/jobs/ambitions, don't revolve around smoking weed. I know that it is the most important thing in some peoples lives, but it really doesn't matter.

The ignorance of others is 'not' something to be commended. There are more important issues regarding cannabis hemp than getting high. That's a child's mentality! I am 55 years old and getting high is down the scale of importance for me. I think comments about 'getting high' distracts from the conversation some of the adults are trying to have. If all one wanted was a buzz, there are many alterntive substances, which one can use.

its not always just about smoking weed you close minded person. its the fact that the founding fathers knew and endorsed the growing of hemp and pretty much every successful civilization up until racist and ignorant Americans decided to demonize a plant, that was extremely useful for many many manufacturing and economic functions because if you smoked it, it will make you happy and not want to work all day for $6 an hour to go home to my house that cost $50,000 or $60,000 and be there slave all my life. and it really does matter when non-violent offenders who have never harmed anyone are thrown in jail for 5 or 10 or 25 years for possessing a plant that used to be so wide spread i could have walked out of my house and found some. While violent offenders are let off on technicalities like insanity. Also clearly MOST people do fucking think its important and that is why it was number one. why don't you do some research before you open your mouth yah cunt.

    • How long have we had 'war on our own shores'? Too long! Isn't it time to address the issues, which are causing this war without end? Yes! Censorship? Why? President Obama is Command and Chief and I think he should answer the questions we as Americans have about a 'war without end' on our own shore. This isn't a war on a far away land. This is in our so-called 'homeland'.

A war based on spin, disinformation and out and out lies, should not be censored. It should be discussed until facts are what guides the direction, not spin and disinformation, spun by those who choose to 'silence' the voices of those who really want change!

Censorship is not the answer! In 'The Land of the Free', we should be able to be heard, without censorship. Tough questions, require tough answers, not ignored to avoid the tough answers.

    • Obama is wisely leaving this to states to decide for themselves. Far more pressing issues are on the President's plate, and marijuana is an electoral loser. Yes, 40% favor legalization, but those that don't favor it, REALLY DON'T FAVOR IT. Picture the right's campaign consisting solely of pictures of the President sparking up a doob, and then picture a new, right wing president who favors cutting taxes on the rich, allowing corporations more control of our government, maybe starting another war, etc. etc.

We cannot boycott google video. It is a main way of interchanging important information that is not destroyed or detected regarding the federal government, of course it is anywhere with a simple feel word searches in google.

The fact of the matter is, we all know what is going on.

      The Feds are losing!

It will all be over soon, their plan will not work.
