Latest figures suggest that Russia's fight against the countries Neo-Nazis has reached boiling point, after it was revealed that they had killed 71 innocent people last year.

One group went as far as recording a death, and posting the footage on the internet. Despite the racially motivated deaths, the neo-nazis see themselves as hero's, protecting the rights of the Russian people. Worryingly, group leader Dmitry Dyomushkin claims that 60% of the nation support their "goals", and that "The whole new generation of Russians are nationalists - our influence on young people is very strong."

    • Ultra-conservatism, wherever its origins (Russia, the United States, Israel, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, etc.) breeds hatred and sub-human violence the likes of which we've seen before, and yet we feign shock and outrage. Where is the Marshall Plan for the Middle East? South East Asia? The former Sov-block? Covert aid and action is fine with me, as long as we provide overt aid and rebuild infrastructure and shout it to the rooftops. Build schools in former Russian satellites, in Palestine and Pakistan to counter the Madrassahs. Train indigenous populations as we did the Hmong. Connect populations to the rest of the world via the Internet, television, whatever it takes to show that we are not just a nation intent on policing the world, but bettering it as well. One more educated man or woman is one less benighted extremist.

Party lines in our great nation are no longer relevant in these conflicts. The children of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike will reap this whirlwind. Help these people as we did after World War II, and let the press shout it out loud. The time has come once again to build allies instead of enemies, engender good will instead of hatred, and before its too late. It's not our fault, but we are in a unique position to do something about it. Time is running out. Let's get to work!

Oh how I miss the simplicity of the Cold War ;-)

    • For decades the American government (and U.S. companies) unnecessarily kept Americans afraid of Communist Russia... well, Americans, get ready for Nazi Russia... after all, that's your baby, your creation...

I was thinking the same thing. Nazism in Russia arose due to the influx of immigrants and high unemployment after the USSR fell. Young Russians felt their "national identities" were threatened and their livelihoods were being stolen by outsiders. As a result, several far-right paramilitary groups arose and fed on the discontent of the average Russian. This is not a fringe group. They are not just a street gang full of angry white kids. They are organized and they have supporters all across the country and in the government. These types of senseless hate-driven murders are the direct result of one culture's extreme xenophobia and misplaced sense of justified violence, not American fears of a communist Russia.

    • What is wrong with Russia for ethnic Russians? Lord knows white people in Africa are treated much worse than this handful in Russia.

    • Its Ironic that the country that faught with the most vegence against the nazis of world war 2 and was effected the most by them would have this problem I mean heres the total causalties of russian soilders in world war 2 the njewest estimate is 26.6 million how could these people turn to naziism when many of the grandparents probably fought the nazis and had friends/or they them selves die was surprised to hear that this was happening in other countries in europe to i knew that there were neo nazis underground in america but i thought that and area so effected by the nazis would have the same thing happening there too.

    • There are some dangerous parallels here, Germany , a world power before WWI felt humiliated and had a sincere desire for a return to former glory and wanting revenge...the results of the draconian terms dictated by the Versailles treaty... now it seems the Russians are seeking their former power and glory they held during the years of the USSR, they must be looking at China who held true to communism and are now a world economic, and military super power and wonder if they didn't make a huge mistake yielding to capitalism..those are some disturbing dynamics at work.

Hello. To reply to a specific response, are you clicking on 'reply' just underneath the comment you have in mind (to the left)? The best way to recommend somebody's comment is to vote it up by clicking on the green arrow next to it. The more votes a comment gets, the higher it appears when people order comments by 'popular'.

Hope this helps and if there's anything else you need, feel free to email us at support [at] current.com

    • Morons like this are all over the world. Here in the U.S. they have gone underground due to the disgust and repulsive feeling for these hate groups. Many were out there during the 90's but, when they started to do these kind of things here, Laws were created and the Leadership was tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent of American Law. So they are pretty much powerless cowards hiding in the shadows. Nice place for people like that.

    • Nazionalisim carries a racist agenda, uniting people against some different race or even races, in the Russian case, well, if you look different, speak differently then, you're bound to be a target!
Naturally, the unskilled labour migrants(normally of african origin get most of the stick), but it's not only in Russia, The UK and France are also experiencing a surge in anti immigrant nazionalism and I also feel very funny when walking the streets of Stockholm, Sweden.
Maybe this has something to do with poverty, the recession, wage and employment cuts but it's making for a very dirty picture for europe right now!
It makes me wonder if something does come of these sentiments, will the Germans complain about how they've been made to feel in the past about their own Nationalistic Ideals?

Well said Daubview. For what it's worth, they've never had a Civil Rights Movement in Europe which has at least given us laws (and brought a conscience) here against many of atrocious behaviors--bravo to the Obama administration for recently passing the hate crimes bill--although, like the famous march in Skokie, Il, or the KKK marching around downtown NYC, there is still freedom of speech and freedoms to form demonstrations--thankfully these nut cases often get paid no mind. However, the Internet is fraught with neo-Nazis and the proliferation of their cause I'm afraid, and that goes completely unregulated.

    • me and some friends wanted to take a trip to to russia from france, as a result of our ethnicity, many people advised against going. From what they told me I was safer wearing a french flag in algeria, now thats pretty hardcore.
However this nationalism is present over europe like denmark, the netherlands were places that came to mind right away

    • It always amuses me when people call the US the most racist country in the world—these people have clearly never been to the former Soviet Union.

    • It is the deepest of ironies that the nation which was most affected by the Nazis could have such a strong neo-Nazi movement. It's total insanity.

These neo nazis are cowards if you ask me i mean its bad enough that they think they need to attack diffrent ethnic groups but they have to do it three on one and as much as what seems twenty on one. The very people the target are the only heros i amazed that these very people havnt resorted to carry guns with in order to protect themselves these people refuse to resort to violence and have continued to study in a country were they are targets i'm am impressed with these people and say they are the true heroes
