Uganda's "kill the gays" bill also targets gay-tolerant

President Obama’s remarks today have drawn attention back to Uganda’s Kill-the-Gays bill. And the media still hasn’t gotten it right. Some conservatives offer the outright lie that it only intends to execute child molesters and people who deliberately spread HIV. The liberal media points out that the bill would also execute people who merely have gay sex more than once.
But the facts are much worse than that. I’ve written about this before, but it bears repeating. Here are two examples of people who could be put to death:
* Someone who has gay sex once and doesn’t turn his partner in to the authorities.
* A straight person who doesn’t turn in a gay friend after hearing about about a couple romantic evenings.
You don’t have be gay to be executed under this bill. Here’s how easily the government could put you to death:
1. The death penalty applies to anyone convicted of “aggravated homosexuality.”
2. Aggravated homosexuality includes all “serial offenders.”
3. A serial offender is “a person who has previous convictions of the offense of homosexuality or related offenses.”
4. Related offenses (Part III of the bill) include not ratting out your gay friends (if you are a person of religious, political, economic, or social [!] authority).
It’s a two-strikes-and-you’re-dead bill. And if you dig into the logic, merely keeping silent about someone who’s keeping silent is enough to count as a strike.

There has to be a way to stop this bullshit and have The Family aka Cowards, be labeled as an extremist group. They are behind this and should be looked upon just like Al Qaeda...

well, that's your opinion, but a group that manipulates others in believing killing a certain group of people, is the right thing, should be considered an extremist group. Just because the family does it indirectly, it doesn't mean they can get away with it.

It also targets the person who knows someone is gay and does not report them. Seems like Uganda has not advanced much from the days of Idi "I eat my enemies" Amin. the American senators who support this need to reminded why this country was formed and what it is suppose to stand for. Would they have supported this law if it were issue by Khrushchev, Castro or any communist leader?

This is really sad.
The hypocrisy just kills me. If the reason to discriminate gays is due to religious faith, yet doesn't it teach NOT to kill people either and to tolerate them regardless of their orientation? If you do not believe in homosexuality because you believe in God and what it teaches in the bible, then why in the world would you commit a sin and kill!? Unless they are using faith as a scapegoat for their own fears...but that would just be schitzo-crazy! - 2 years ago

I've always had a strong belief that the U.S. shouldn't get involve with the affairs of another country. However, I can't help but have a strong feeling that I should do something about this, or at least the community. My worse fear is that this bill will lead to bloodshed, and perhaps more crimes Uganda has committed against humanity.

rape is a large problem in uganda, regardless of if it is men on men, women on women, men or women, and women on men...but you and I both know the male to female rape is the most prominent. point is, they are trying to effect laws to stop gays but none to stop rape...
