A gay dating website, ManCrunch, had one very funny, racy commercial, which featured a hot man-on-man kissing scene between two male football fans

    • I think Manhunt could have made a much better commercial, more manly, like real football players smacking some buttocks.

    • they changed tebow's commercial, and they didn't want ManCrunch. sounds like they were trying to make as much money as possible without limiting how offensevie they are (towards their target audiance).

How surprising. sounds like they were trying to make as much money as possible.

Since up to 71% of Americans are no longer opposed to gays enjoying the civil rights that are their due, I guess the NFL fucked up.
Didn't see the stupid anti-abortion commercial but I heard it was watered down.

*target audience i.e. SEC is the most profitable conference in the NCAA.

Football is not at the same spot as the 71% you talk about. I say that because of the few NFL players (current or retired) to ever acknowledge they were gay. I believe less than 10(total not %) but ?? This number is much smaller than the general acceptance of 4-15% LGBT community.

the anti abortion commercial was about as watered down as an abortion commercial can get (either way). It was tim's mom talking then he hugged her. Finally they gave a website with the rest of their message. This commercial would have been the least interesting of them all if the media didn't hype it beforehand.

    • c7girl,

You messed up the grammar in the headline.
      It should say:
Super Bowl Banned Gay Dating Site ManCrunch Ad.

The way you have it written now implies that ManCrunch banned a Super Bowl Ad from it's website, which is not true.

Also, just because a commercial for the Super Bowl was rejected by CBS, doesn't mean it was banned. Commercial time during the Super Bowl is the most coveted time-slot in television; many ads are rejected.

but advertising, like programming, is based on demographics, audience, etc.
does the NFL or any network believe that gay guys, ipso facto, don't like/watch football? that is just not true.

      ryan,

like FK i think is has to do with revenue steams. Superbowl commercials are a limited resource and they have the position to choose who they want to air. LBGT make up around 4-15% of the pop (depending on who you ask). Evangelicals/non dom's are sitting at ~45% +/- a couple. Some do overlap but thats harder to determine. IMHO if a company wanted to get as much money as possible it would be very logical for them to choose the evangelicals (if the two commercials were put head to head for the last spot)

    • I thought the commercial was pretty average, but I should not be banned. Apparently the NFL are still homophobes. Not surprising.

no body want to see two dudes make out on a commercial. Im not a homophobe i just dont want to see it while im watching football. If its on modern family on wednesday than thats one thing. But during the super bowl. Come on guy.

nobody is the wrong term. many people would encourage/support it. Its just the math. 4-15% isn't the same (LGBT estimates not supporters, if you have a number/academic link i would love to know the estimate/paper that supports it) as the potential non doms they offend. it is a business.
