When 70 Percent Support Marijuana Legalization, Starbucks Gets The Message

A pro-cannabis group based in Colorado called for a nationwide boycott of coffee giant Starbucks after activists spotted a Starbucks logo on the website of a virulently extremist anti-drug organization. After intense negative publicity ensued, Starbucks actually felt moved to issue a denial.
Once Mason Tvert of Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recation (SAFER) called for the boycott, it took only a couple days until Starbucks denied funding the Colorado Drug Investigators Association (CDIA). Starbucks further said they officially took no position on the marijuana issue, one way or the other.
That doesn’t sound so remarkable until you realize that the very nonchalance, the need to be noncommital, is emblematic of the change, the bedrock reality in the politics of marijuana that has already occurred under our feet.
For those of us who can remember the zeitgeist of two or three decades ago — when anything anti-marijuana could expect a warm corporate embrace while anything pro-pot was anathema to any self-respecting company – this is an exhilarating change of atmosphere.
What has happened is that we are now so near the tipping point where the majority will favor legalizing marijuana, that change has begun to acquire a sweet whiff of inevitability.

That is some very pretty bud. I can't wait for it to be legalized for medical use because I have no appetite, I'm very tense, and I have a constant pain in my lower back because I wear high heels, etc...

I suppose. Don't forget to move the drinking/smoking age to 16. We need to move our values from "It's all a vice" to "Beer=food" and maybe we'll see a change in alcoholism.

How about honesty is the best policy. To support dishonesty in the quest for values seems a bit esque. People are not suggesting cannabis for minors. What people want is honesty and facts, not dishonesty and spin.

That would be corporate suicide for starbucks since it's already so big. If you want to make starbucks fair trade than buy your cup of joe somewhere else and they will slwoly lower their prices.

Just getting them to stop 'spinning' madness would be a step in the right direction. If politicians were embarrassed when they spun disinformation and lies, eventually they would be afraid to spin. They would start fact checking and realize, we know when they are lying. We can't accept it anymore. We need change.

"Just getting them to stop 'spinning' madness would be a step in the right direction."
And that's just the problem. The politicians and corporations attached to the drug-free agenda have had 80 years of continuous 'spinning' to build themselves this landslide argument against legalization. Even though millions of people have sifted through the bullsh*t and know the benefits of the legalization of marijuana, the 'people' (pharmaceutical corporations are people too, right? /end sarcasm) in charge can and have simply claimed that any real facts about marijuana have no scientific merit because they weren't produced by the corporations and governments themselves.
Fear not, though. Even if the Canadian and American governments try to shy away from the issue every time it surfaces, they can't hide from it forever. With the millions of people from both nations fighting for this cause... the pressure on the governments is only increasing.

and thats really what it comes down too... the govt needs to stop lying to its people period. the reason why the govt is so damn stubburn about this is because they dont want to admit the fact that they were wrong about cannabis in the first place, and they also to want to admit that they where lying to the very people the govt. was built to serve...
once the govt admits to those things im sure there would be investigation on everything the govt. has done and when things start unraveling and stuff gets found out. the credibility of the govt would be thrown out the window and it would be anarchy; until a new democracy is built on the foundation and principles that our fore fathers founded this country on, but with a moderate approach.
this whole situation could be a lot bigger than even we think, so legalization being this hard to pass isnt a surprise to me; but the fact that the govt. wont face the very justice they hide behind and are so proud of is complete bullshit.

It's time for people with voices, to hold them accountable. Ask them questions, make them 'lie out loud'. Don't let them 'spin' untrue facts. People know the facts. Opinion can be spun, but the facts really are the facts. They can't find facts to support their actions, so they spin. Spinning distorted facts, is lying! It's time to hold those who choose to 'spin' for political gain accountable. Don't afford them the luxury of lies. The price is too high! We have more people in prison than any other country.

exactly, WE THE PEOPLE are the only ones who can call the govt. out on their bold faced lies and spun facts.
i now think, since the govt. obviously isnt taking us seriously, we should go directly to the people and educate them. the more people that dont fall for lies the less bullshit the govt. can push out to scare us into thinking something that has helped millions of people, is a devil plant.
some people know the truths about cannabis, but there are still way too many that have grown ignorant to the possibility that cannabis could be remotely helpful to anyone. our job on educating people is nowhere near done, as a matter a fact we need to step it up now that we are getting closer to passing full legalization in California.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see this playing a part in a social/political Rube Goldberg machine on its way to the legalization of marijuana? Sometimes, all it takes is one domino to start a Rube Goldberg machine. Lets hope there are a few more contraptions just waiting to play their part.
