Palin Considering 2012 Run, Defends Limbaugh's Use Of 'Retard' On Fox News Sunday

governor Sarah Palin didn't cage her answer when pressed Sunday morning as to whether she would consider a run for president in 2012.

"I would, I would if I believe that is the right thing to do for our country and the Palin family. Certainly I would do so," she told "Fox News Sunday," in an interview that was taped before she addressed a Tea Party convention the night before. "I think that it would be absurd to not consider what it is that I could potentially do to help our country ... . I won't close a door that perhaps could be open for me in the future."

In her first Sunday show appearance, the 2008 vice-presidential candidate predicted that, if the election were held today, President Barack Obama would actually lose the office he won just a year-and-a-half ago. But -- citing a column written by Pat Buchanan -- she left open the possibility that his fates could change, particularly (she seemed to wish) if a major attack were to be launched against Iran.

Palin also used her platform to continue a call for the president to rid himself of his closest advisers. On Attorney General Eric Holder, she labeled his handling of captured terrorists -- "allowing them our U.S. constitutional protections when they do not deserve them" -- a firing offense. On Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, she said his comments calling liberal groups "f-ing retards" was "indecent and insensitive" and cause for his dismissal.

But the former governor went to great and sometimes awkward lengths to insist that when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the same exact term to describe the same exact group, it was simply in the role of political humorist.

"They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh," she said, when read a quote of Limbaugh calling liberal groups "retards." "Rush Limbaugh was using satire ... . I didn't hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with 'f-ing retards,' and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there."

In the 30-minute sit down with host Chris Wallace, Palin addressed a wide swath of largely political topics -- the policy minutia, undoubtedly, saved for another time and place.

She dismissed charges that her husband Todd played an unacceptably active role in guiding her administration as governor, after it was revealed in recently disclosed emails that the "first dude" was often consulted on weighty matters.

She acknowledged moderate successes in Obama's foreign policy -- specifically towards Afghanistan and Pakistan -- but still questioned why the president "pals around" with domestic terrorists (Bill Ayers).

Finally, she declined several attempts to weigh in on other prospective 2012 candidates, citing only Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) as someone who she admired and found intriguing.

The impression, in the end, was left that she was charting out a candidacy of her own. Pressed about reports that she was being consulted by a group of Washington-based advisers -- those insider elites she often bemoans -- on issues both domestic and foreign, she didn't exactly shoot down the idea that it was prep work for a White House run.

"Ever since our PAC was formed we have had good people contributing, some, many volunteers, I guess you would call them advisers yes, fire away emails to me every morning saying this is what happened in Washington overnight, you need to be aware of this," Palin said. "I have no idea how conventionally people [run for the White House]. How they open a door that perhaps isn't even open. ... I don't know how any of that stuff works. I'm just appreciative of having some good information at my fingerprints now."

    • Cut the BS with your twisted logic, sarah, and just tell it like you see it: Limballs-republican (can do no wrong) "it's ok if he calls retard" Emanuel-democrat (always wrong) should apologize and be fired for calling retard.

This must be a sign of the impending demise of the US when so many people put their eggs in the basket of this uninformed, opportunistic, greedy, illogical douchebag.

    • I think it is safe to say that the word "retard" no longer refers to people with a mental disability but has moved into the category of general insult, along with previous diagnostic terms such as cretin, moron, idiot, and imbecile.

    • Sarah knows it wrong to be critical of speak ill of Rush Limbaugh. The messiah of the GOP. Just ask those who spoke ill of Rush and had to turn around kiss his rings.

      Yup.

Of course Palin's doing all of this to make some $$$. It's not about standing up for the rights of mentally-impaired, using logic, etc. It's about grabbing as much cheddar as she can, and not pissing off her boss(es), even if it means making lame excuses that don't pass the muster for anyone (except retards who are fooled by her wink and smile).

Palin's "Going Rogue" book is published by a branch of Murdoch's News Corp, and as if by coincidence, she also became a Fox News special consultant around the same time the book was released. Coincidence? This is what marketeers call synergy, and how product managers boost sales (as they say, no publicity is bad publicity). She's a gen-u-wine (sic) Fox News Brand, and is no doubt well paid for her sell-out efforts.

Obviously, Palin gave up politics to be able to pursue some money-making gigs (Rep. Bachmann backed out of the Tea Party event when an ethics committee advised her she'd be wise NOT to take pay; Bachmann bowed out, but accepting the speaker's honorium was not a problem for an ex-government official like Palin).

I suspect Palin's grabbing what she can when she can, as she still has the ability to grab the spot-light (and before her Tea Party fans figure out she's playing the popularist angle to sell a few books).

The public is fickle and stoopid (sic), but I suspect even THEY have limits to the amount of cognitive dissonance they can swallow: no doubt Palin paid enough attention in school to remember the words of Lincoln: "you can fool some of the people some of the time...." She knows the rest.

Palin just shot herself in the foot yet again, and lost ALL credibility on this issue for trying to defend Rush. What she said doesn't even MAKE SENSE!!

For one, how can she say Emanuel is 'indecent and insensitive' for saying the same thing SHE just repeated? She says this, even AFTER she KNOWS use of the word "retard" has been decried by those claiming to protect the sensitivities of the mentally-challenged as patently offensive, and has become an issue that people are looking at? In other words, she raised the awareness of this issue, only to violate the prohibition HERSELF? What a hypocrit...

Palin fails to comprehend that it's offensive for ANYONE to use the word "retard" in attempted insult, esp. if it's done for the sake of attacking someone who's political beliefs may differ from yours. It's an ad hominem attack (a personal attack), and not only that, hyperbole: we KNOW the other group MAY appear stupid; but it's overboard since their behavior is not stupid to the point of being confused with that of someone who's 'retarded' (like her Trig)?

However, I'm starting to think the retarded comment may NOT be such hyperbole when applied to Palin, as she fails to grasp even the most basic element of the controversy SHE created: she steps knee-deep in her own poo.

She's done a pretty good job of hiding her own trisomy 21 carrier status until now, but the genetic tendency is becoming more and more obvious every time she opens her mouth.

BTW, I think it's reasonable NOT to have a mental midget like Palin serving as POTUS: while it might be a great statement about equal rights for the mentally-challenged, I dare say it's a tad too much sacrifice for the Nation's good, all in the name of political correctness (PC being a concept Palin herself no doubt rebuffs)? Who wants a President who has to wear a helmet? And THAT wouldn't be encouraging attacks from our enemies?

    • I went to school with a girl who acted like Sarah Palin.
She rode the little yellow school bus and was always licking the glass.

It is funny how she justifies her reasoning on the use of the word retarded. When Boss Hog uses the same word he is allowed because he is using it as a " political humorist."
She vapidity never ceases to amaze me - no wonder she gives birth to children who are missing chromosomes.
