Below are the findings of a poll conducted by Research 2000. I'm not familiar with this organization, but if these statistics are even close to accurate, they're downright alarming. The question is "why do people feel this way?" Some of these beliefs go well beyond ideological or party differences. I think it's due to several things... 1) The Republican Party's campaign of misinformation, 2) Racism and the fear of the unfamiliar (like someone with a unique name), and 3) media that's more interested in ratings than the truth, just to name a few.
Here are some of the poll's findings:
10: 36 percent don't believe Obama was born in the United States, and 22 percent aren't sure.
9: Only 36 percent say that Obama doesn't hate white people.
8: Only 7 percent support same-sex marriage.
7: 68 percent don't think gay couples should receive any state or federal benefits, while 21 percent are not sure.
6: 39 percent believe Obama should be impeached.
5: 23 percent want their state to secede from the union. The number rises to 33 percent in the South.
4: 24 percent claim that Obama "wants the terrorists to win," while 33 percent are not sure.
3: Only 24 percent say they definitely don't believe that ACORN stole the election.
2: 31 percent think contraception should be outlawed.
1: 73 percent believe that openly gay men or women should be prohibited from teaching in public schools, and 19 percent aren't sure.
