He had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery.
In 1974, Murtha became the first combat veteran of the Vietnam War elected to Congress. He wielded considerable clout for two decades as a leader of the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending. But frustration over the Iraq war led him to call for an immediate pullout of U.S. troops in 2005.

May he rest in peace.

You can't be serious urban. Go back and review the vitriol spewed out at Limbaugh from the left on various posts - it wasn't pretty

NO! This guy got the ball rolling to help get the madness in Iraq stopped! And 35 years in the Marines tells me he was a hell of a patriot.

Yes, Murtha's time as a marine does make him a patriot...
So does McCain's service and as a surviving prisoner of war make him a patriot as well?
...yet you've wasted no time denigrating him, is that because he's not a liberal? - 2 years ago

No one in Johnstown really liked the guy but he sure did bring home the government money to his area! So of course they kept voting Mr. Moneybags in! Johnston will financially hurt from his loss.
RIP, Mr. Murtha, sorry for your loss. At only 77 years of age.
Mr. Byrd's out spent and outlived you.......that's sad. - 2 years ago

In regards to his leftist partisan tactics, indeed the end justified the means. . . ethics be damned.
