Gun politics: Open carry at Starbucks

Image
locutus
Starbucks has recently become the unlikely gathering spot for Second Amendment crusaders with guns conspicuously at their sides, asserting their right to openly carry firearms in public.

The “open carry” movement is an effort sponsored by the gun lobby and made up of “gun rights” extremists determined to force their interpretation of the Second Amendment on their fellow citizens by openly carrying handguns in public places.

    • I'm kinda glad that places tend to publicly announce their stances on gun-ownership (concealed or not). It gives us gun-haters a clear warning,... TELLING US TO STAY THE EFF OUTTA THESE PLACES!!!!

    • I guess I am a walking contradiction. I do not see a problem with the open carry of firearms, despite the fact that I lean left. Granted, most of these guys depicted are retards (come get me, Palin) meant to scare the left, but an individual should have no less a right to protect himself and his family than a police officer. I am all for individual rights and there are always going to be dumb people abusing any right.

You may think it may be odd for me to believe that open carry would decrease gun violence in America, but I think it would IF those who carry are meticulously screened for history of violence, psychological abnormalities, and other anti-social tendencies, much like conceal carry permit holders are.

States with conceal carry laws have not seen an increase in gun violence and depending on what statistics you buy into they are 3 to 5 times less likely to commit a violent crime. There is no reason to believe that gun violence would spike if the law was expanded to law-abiding citizens.

    • So what? I don't think these guys are that "extreme". I see police regularly with guns, so what is the difference if an individual has one? Either way the person would be held accountable if they shot somebody accidently or otherwise. Guns are very safe if you have a small amount of knowledge about them. These guys guns aren't even loaded I beleive, unlike a police officer's.

    • I can’t really fault a progressive or the subscriber of some other political ideology when they have reservations about a particular issue. However there’s a clear line between reasoned and honest sentiment and unsubstantiated, unrealistic and bigoted hate speech. This article clearly crosses that line. It’s a tea bagger -Barack HUSIEEN O-BAHHHH-ma is an evil socialist diatribe repackaged for the bizzaro progressive counterpart.
