OMGZRZ It's just a normal sized carrot! Lies. Terrible, Terrible lies. I wanted cute carrots. I wanted to eat the children of regular sized carrots not dismembered carrots.

some carrots mold and blacken on the outside skin, but if you peel them about an 1/16th of an inch they retain all edible characteristics. so instead of discarding them, an entrepreneur takes stock and realizes 2 to 4 peeled, snack sized carrots; thereby bringing them to a profit margin called, "baby carrots".

They're not genetically modified, but they've been selectively bred to be more edible. It's the same species as the wild carrot.

think those baby carrots are weird - I was at a New Years dinner where they served marble-sized round carrots... everyone at the table was commenting - "i want to know how they made the carrots round!" mystery solved.

Maybe, but the round carrots you ate could be Thumbelina or Tonda di Parigi (which is a 19th Century, Parisian heirloom). Both grow round and are currently fadish in foodie/gourmet circles. They're actually very good for growing in containers or relatively poor soil since they're so shallow.

I never really put too much thought into how they made baby carrots. Damnit, now I won't have as much fun chewing around them until I reach the cool little cylindrical core.

The bby. carrot shouldn't be chastised, it's
a product of it's environment. Let's give it a break. - 2 years ago

Actually, all the carrots that we get at the grocery store have been genetically modified to be big, sweet, and orange. Wild carrots are small, white and rather spicy. So carrots are abnormal, and baby carrots are abominations. They plan to take over the world.

What, carrots don't have babies? They are just cut smaller - my world is upside down.

It is nice to have a convenient snack but they are usually soaked in a foul smelling and tasting chemical so I don't buy them.

No more "baby" carrots for me, I would much rather get the real organic ones and cut them myself into bite sized sizes.
