Police say Wesley Strellis destroyed 29 televisions before he threw down the bat, which he'd reportedly gotten from the sporting goods section. He was arrested a few minutes later.
Altogether, the 29 TVs are reported to be valued at more than $22,000. Police say they're still trying to figure out what may have prompted Strellis' outburst.

I love that smashy breaky sound.
I was thinking that all the people that like what he did should contribute to his defense fund. If anyone that knows him is actually reading this and he is not a complete asshole, just a guy that is pissed off at Walmart, organize a collection for him. Post it on YouTube. He has quite a few fans right here alone. ;)

I say why didn't this guy go to a big bank and bash in their windows or knee-cap their CEO's? That would have at least maybe sort of gotten some attention focused on the unrest of the economy and how we are being hijacked by rich corporations.
But this was pretty much just pointless. Because as already noted--all this is going to do is cost some other poor hourly wage teenager their job and Wal-Mart corporate office (as well as their customer base) will completely miss the point.
Seriously a couple of years ago on Black Friday a poor hired security guard was trampled to death by overzealous shoppers trying to get the best deal--and what happened? Wal-Mart paid the family off and most likely laid off or relocated the store manager who hired the security guard--and people still shop at Wal-Mart for the best prices.

Who hasn't had the urge to smash something (especially large, expensive t.v.'s?) I have had this urge on occasion, especially after reading books like 1984, or writers such as dick, herbert, and heinlein. Each of these authors were not far off in what they had to say about the proliferation of propaganda through government and other "corporations." Wake up people our brains are being bombarded daily by the television (it's called brainwashing)!!! I like this guy he had the balls to do what most of want to do but won't.

You guys act as if Wal-Mart is the biggest, baddest corporation out there.
Here are three corporations that are larger than Wal-Mart:
- PetroChina
- Industrial and Commercial Bank of China
- China Mobile...are they all evil, too?

Mr. Incense, I wonder that you might lead some to casually believe Wal-Mart mismanagement isn't quite bad enough, but for your own superlative "biggest, baddest" misplaced magnificence somehow.
Your answer is yes, for potential greed, likely white-collar embezzlement worth far more than a few tv's, and mistreatment of labor, they may very well be.
Irregardless, would any of the companies you cite have any bearing on Wal-Mart's very own propensity for such consistently fuqd "business" practices all over America?
Screw em. Send them to China too I might say, if you think they aren't "big" enough to be "bad" enough.

As far as corporate bastards go, wal-mart is the worst. Compared to how much profit they make they pay their employees less than any other business. They've destroyed many local business's client base. Yeah, it's nice to say just limit what you buy and where you shop, but in all reality, wal-mart's the only place to go. Look at what they've done to the bicycle shop. The only cities to have bike shops outside of wal-mart are the huge ones, and if you plan on being really good to the world you will be using your bicycle as your main form of transportation (like me), you simply do not have the stamina to ride to the next place that carries all the crap you need. But most people just drive to where they need to go and still don't want to go out of their ways to read labels, research renewable resources, or feel like finding those hidden jewels that are the local stores all for the same reason, which I assume is laziness.
I applaud this man, and his willingness to destroy wal-mart's property, for whatever reason. A better Idea would have been to take the cotton filter out of a cigarette butt and fill it with (carefully) ground up match heads (make sure there isn't FSC by the barcode, as these cigarettes are designed to burn themselves out). Twist the paper so the powder doesn't fall out and light them up just outside the store before you go in. Walk around until you find a display of pillows/teddy bears/random fluffy things that tend to catch on fire and casually drop your cigarette underneath. It helps if you're dressed up in clothes that would cause people to expect you to stink, so they'll keep their distance while not looking like a thief. When the cigarette burns to where the ground up match heads are, there will be a satisfactory flare-up, so if you happen to have a friend go in before you, loading up a cart of things you've wanted for a while who just happens to rush outside without thinking of paying because the place is burning down around his ears, I'm sure the authorities will understand. - 1 year ago

They've made it so we can never buy in and so we hear people saying they can't stop shopping at Wal-Mart like what are we gonna do if we can't stop sucking on their tits? Lay someone off? Well, most of that's happening already anyway... Wal-Mart will FIRE your dumb ass most certainly if you have any considerable amount of tenure on manufactured bullshit pretenses. That's a fact. Yeah they deserve to burn for as often as I've heard that, and for disgracing the better name they were given.

Maybe more people should follow this example. Corporations need to be put on notice: people are not going to take your crap lying down.
Even if this wasn't the act of a man who was acting against corporations, it's still a good idea to hits corporations where it hurts: in the wallet. Wal-Mart will be out 29,000 dollars for those TV's and that was damage cause by one individual.
A little civil disobedience goes a long way.

And they'll most likely put the loss of those televisions against the employee who works at that Wallmart--by laying them off. And most people who work in Wallmart are not working their by choice. It some parts of America it's the only source of jobs.
Look, I work at retail for a big box company. And I'm an artist who shops at local stores as much as I can. If you have a problem with big box stores due to how they treat their employers or where their products are made from, either limit your shopping habits there or don't shop there at all. Destroying inventory will not solve anything it will make the situation more difficult. And destroying property for the sake of corporate greed will not change the opinion of the average citizen about BB stores. Average Joe will view Wallmart hater as some kid who does not have anything, does not want anyone to have anything, and is disruptive.

Limiting my shopping habits will only have the same result in getting people laid off.
No matter what kind of corporate protest goes on, whether it be violent, non-violent, or boycotting, the little guy at the bottom is going to feel the pinch. And Average Joe is too caught up in buying whatever he came to Wal-Mart for to pay attention to what all the fuss is about. Average Joe does not care until it affects average Joe. When Average Joe cannot buy a flat-screen TV because they have all been smashed, then maybe Average Joe will care to know why.
So until we do SOMETHING drastic(doesn't have to be smashing TV's, but hey, look how it worked for this guy), then no one will pay attention or snap out of the apparent brainwashing and corruption taking place in our country.

and
"the kingdom of God suffers VIOLENCE, and the violent take it BY FORCE."
much better than 'star's rather not so uncommon unsense, it's truer that few meaningful wars in any venue are going to be decided by merely playing patty-cake to declare a self-restrained victor. No, in most wars, in fact, someone is going to die, or be quite seriously diminished to more instantaneously cease and desist--and so usually it's more of a "you or me" situation "till death do us part" than it is about feigned morality.
"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose ye this day whom ye will serve...but as for me...we will serve the Lord."
your softer "tranquil" sensibilities will only get you killed like a dumb fattened calf to the over-eager slaughter..."Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword...." And I'll use it as often as necessary, and then some perhaps...ugh

He's probably like me. Pissed off every time I drive to work to make a shit wage and I see store windows and sales signs and car dealerships still asking me to buy things when I can barely afford milk. Everyone is poor and we're still being marketed to as if we aren't. So psychologically, we feel even worse because now, instead of competing with our neighbors for the shiniest toys, we now have to also pretend like we aren't impoverished.

and oh yeah Whitz, food like cows have been around a long time, haven't they. Used to be you could find them roaming freely on almost any range, maybe a little like the bison of old--that is, until the white man built fences and said "that's mine, even if it's yours, and if i can't take it from you, I'll kill you and pursue you like Satan incarnated in many measled blankets." Oh! but then the face-saving modern industrialization even of cows and now corn and all GMO "you'lll have to buy our seeds for evermore" bullshit, was held out to the world in the implicit noble promise that we could now feed the world 10 times over "for even less"!!! But whoever met a 'mad cow' before any of that promise could be readily realized and the opportunistic greedy man had his fill of screwing you and every other backwards "savages" in the ass? Hmmm...
and I wonder too how long TV's have been around. Used to be we could get any channel we wanted, but now we have to BUY a box for "free" tv, eh? better for them to keep track of your terrorist dumbass, right? ;) We can BUY our water in bottles too though now!!! THAT's progress! =D
and i only wish this man would have bashed some corporate mahogany desks into literal splinters while the rich fuqs sit in them.
you vigilantes...try looking upstairs first ;) I LIKE top/trickle-down economics! I think that might just actually work for an actually better America ;)
