fuck a tax. they are taxing for the right to through a seed in the ground. i understand that is for a dispancery but all sales should fall under a sales tax (not sure if/what hawaii's is) I don't think it should be a crime to trade time for money, which is what people who grow pot and sell it do. If the people buying and selling are legal under the MM laws than the gov should just accept their cut, ie sales tax.
This seems like extortion to me;
Gov; i want a cut
med user; ok you can have the same cut as any other sale
Gov; Ok, than we will prosecute and harass anyone we think could possibly be breaking the law. and if were wrong the jury will let us know.
med user; fine we will give you a little extra to leave us alone.this is a classic shake down.
When they passed MM laws they made it legal to own and dose for qualified users. now they are trying to exploit (beyond normal taxes) the people who don't grow it themselves. If they have a sales tax of 4-10% (which is normal) and than throw on a 30 bucks per ounce tax what that end up being? Here, in washington, an ounce of top shelf costs 280-320. thats 10%. if it were legal the price would drop to about 100 bucks. that would be a 30% tax.
If i were to grow a plant outside (and did everything special, extra long veg, lst, cropping) i could get multiple pounds. that means i would be paying thousands of dollars in taxes for a single plant!! this is complete bullshit.
I call shenanigans.

It may be a shakedown, but other than the time it takes to grow, it is free... and to be able to grow and smoke your "own" without fear of arrest and prosecution is priceless. Imho, it seems that you're looking a gift horse in the mouth and bitching that you have to feed it!

bull shit.
the fear of prosecution does have a price tag. Would you be ok to stand infront of a police station if you knew that you could sell X for 1,000,000,000 or risk 5 years in jail? i would i couldn't make 200,000,000 a year any other way, so yes. When you create a surcharge for a product that otherwise doesn't denote an extra surcharge (like cost to transport or risk) you design a black market. the value of a non existing black market is worth more a lot. the only reason why they are targeting LEGAL weed users is because of beaurcratic short comings.
IMHO its not a matter of growing your own. its selling it to other qualified individuals. If they are legally qualified, i don't see why they should be charged more (in taxes) than someone who bought a car. Sure most people could build there own care over enough time. (enough blueprints and available parts out there) but if they want one NOW, they can pay the higher prices the company charges plus the sales tax.
this is the same as weed. Anyone can grow it. Put if you want to buy it from someone else it will cost you a sales tax. Just because its weed doesn't deserve an extra surcharge.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. BF
this shouldn't be about now. it should be about letting your fellow human do what they want if it doesn't affect their neighbor.

What you want it to be or think it should be is not what it is... Maybe I mis-understood the context regarding the taxation.
By-the-way, I hate taxation, but it is what it is, it pays for social programs (which I also hate [for the most part]) but we do need social infrastructure, i.e. police, fire, etc, etc (you know, necessary shit like that)... so boo-hoo, go ahead and wind yourself up about the unfairness of it all, excuse if I don't care. - 2 years ago

Are you kidding me putting a tax on it makes it legal. Many people don't under stand if they tax it. That makes it legal if you have a tax stamp then it is all that is required to make it legal in all states. They just never made a tax stamp for it.

basically if the govt. isnt making money off it then its illegal. taxing cannabis so that the govt. can make money is about the only way to legalize the plant/herb

I know some of you may be a little tired of this tune, yet, even though I'm under the weather with a wee bit of my brothers homegrown Dubai Poison left. I have been overwhelmed with a new surge of energy from within. Today America's #1 'Free The Weed' tune is dedicated to my home state of Hawaii and the Senate Public Safety Committee. Just got to get this passed in the house and it's truly on. Big up all my homies on the Garden Isand Kauai. Blaze it up troops, the great fallacy against the blessed herb is slowly coming to an end. Blessings and Aloha to all
