The BBC has broken with a 565-year tradition by insisting that a male Blue Peter presenter take part in a pancake race previously reserved for women.
The historic Shrove Tuesday race, which started in 1445, has only ever been open to women over 18 who have lived in the town for more than six months, however presenter Joel Deffries donned a blonde wig and finished third.
